| Physical Description | Mari is tall with a slim frame. She has long medium brown hair and blue eyes. She is most frequently seen in a Harper blue tunic and pants, though will pull out a dress when the mood strikes her. She looks younger than she is and is often mistaken for a junior journeyman. |

| General Overview | Mari is an extreme introvert. She prefers solitude, especially while working on a project. She does not mind the company of a single person, but any more than one is out of the question. When surrounded by many people she tends to sit back and listen rather than contribute to the conversation. All of this changes when her pipes are in her arms, however. Suddenly, she becomes a charismatic performer and plays off her audience with ease. She tends towards the loud and obnoxious songs, but will pull out a melancholy sound when the situation requires. She is proficient on guitar and has a good singing voice- useful in teaching the children- but pipes are her instrument and it shows. |

History
| History | Born to two Master Healers stationed at the Harper Hall, Mari had only one sibling- a brother twelve years her senior. He doted on her between his lessons as an apprentice Harper. Her earliest memory is of her brother being searched and going off to the Weyr to impress a bronze dragon. She is proud of him to this day. She entered her own apprenticeship at twelve turns. She had been learning pipes and loved it, so continued that avenue of study for a time. However, she quickly discovered instrument making and quickly settled into the task. Her very first instrument- a hand drum- earned high praise from the Master Luthier, who quickly claimed her as his apprentice. She also met and became fast friends with Raemi, a fellow apprentice. She reached Journeyman status at sixteen and spent the next few years heading to various holds and Weyrs to repair the drums on the heights or restring a harp or guitar, but because of her aptitude with instrument making, was kept at the hall as much as possible. It was during this time that her relationship with Raemi became romantic and the two began talking about a handfasting, perhaps after one of them gained their mastery. However, Raemi contracted a respiratory illness and the healers were unable to save him. Mari was devastated and depressed for awhile, and channeled that into designing a fiddle out of burled wood. It was difficult to make, but the sound that came from it was unmatched and she had many requests from all over Pern after one of the other Journeymen took it with him on a tour. This kept her busy for a long time and earned her a lot of marks. Eventually, she was sent long term to Igen where she spent most of her time assisting the Master Harper there in teaching the children as well as repairing instruments at hold and Weyr. She spent several turns there until being sent to High Reaches for the same tasks. After many turns at High Reaches, she was recalled to the Harper Hall for a short time. While there, she was surprised to be awarded her Mastery- although she was the only one. All the other Masters and Journeymen had seen it coming for turns. Her assignment was to head south, report to the Harper Hall there, and then continue on to Kymos Hold, which would be her main base of operations. |
