RCW: I didn’t get eaten

Mission: 3531 AL

R'kig sighed softly as he sat on the edge of his bed. He really needed to find Nerlyn and apologize. He shouldn't have drugged her klah but he hadn't known what else to do. He finally pushed to his feet and went hunting for Nerlyn. There was no sense in putting it off any longer.

Nerlyn looked up as she saw R’kig on the path in front of her as she shouldered her satchel to get more comfortable. She loved her evening walk back from Dolphineer Hall but there and then she looked confused at the blue rider. “Hello blue rider.” She greeted seeing she had not excuse not to.

He quickly stopped, not having expected to run into her so quickly. Well, there was no running now. “Good evening, Nerlyn,” he red. answered.

Nerlyn looked around and rolled her eyes. “What brings you to the beach and dock area?” She wondered not wanting to stop as she really wanted dinner with her family which normally would have included him.

“I came to find you,” he said honestly. He blew out a breath, clenching and unclenching his hands. “I needed to apologize for what I did.”

“It’s fine.” She said, rolling her eyes. “Well, it’s not but I know why you did it.” She said trying to act gracious compared to what she wanted to do. She had promised K’ron that she would not beat him and she was keeping it if she can.

R'kig frowned. It wasn't okay but he hadn't known what else to do. “I wouldn't have done it if I knew it made you sick,” he added. That was why he really felt bad.

“Yeah. Well I’m okay. I stopped throwing up after a bit and some sleep.” She commented looking at him carefully. She put down her satchel and stepped up to him. She barely reached his shoulders but the feistiness made up for it. “Look… if you ever do it again I will drown you.” She said simply.

he hadn't realized she reacted so badly. That was the part he had felt bad for. R'kig rolled his eyes. “if there is a next time you both are on your own. I'm not playing messenger again.” oh no he was not getting in the middle of that again.

“Glad that’s agreed. I’m crazy enough without fellis.” She muttered softly. She hated how everything was making her feel at the moment and fellis reaction was worse.

R'kig pressed his lips together, trying extremely hard not to laugh. She was a bit crazy but it seemed to work with her and K'ron. “I am still sorry. I wasn't sure what else to do honestly.”

Nerlyn rolled her eyes at him as she noticed how he tried to not to laugh. “Say what is on your mind R’kig. I know you think I am crazy and unworthy of K’ron because I’m a stubborn mule.”

“Never said you were unworthy of him. Crazy yes but not unworthy,” he assured her. “You keep my wherryheaded brother from taking things too seriously.” He honestly couldn't imagine K'ron with anyone else.

“You never knew me properly before Leaneth but even if you don’t think I think about it every day of my life. He is the only reason I am still here and I am not worthy of that devotion.” Nerlyn said quietly as a pair of riders passed them on the path. She inclined her head and the pair smiled back but did not say anything.

R'kig hadn't really known her until much later, considering he was that much younger. “You are,” he said gently, showing just how much he was like his older brother at times. “K'ron needs you just like you need him.” He nodded at the riders. This was not how he expected this conversation to go.

“R’kig… he doesn’t need me. He wants me. There is a big difference.” Nerlyn assured him quietly as she smiled as she watched him. He sounded so much like K’ron for a heartbeat before the moment was gone.

The blue rider rolled his eyes. “I'm not so sure that is the case,” he pointed out. He knew for a fact without Nerlyn that K'ron would work himself to death. “Either way. You both have each other and that's what matters.”

Nerlyn nodded. Much like the Weyrleader the man could not see her view point so she dropped it. “Are you coming for dinner or are you going for a walk?” She wondered quietly as she decided to change the subject and move on as it was impossible to explain it all right then and there.

Apparently they weren't going to agree on that matter and R'kig really didn't want to apologize again. “I had only come to talk with you and apologize so dinner sounds good.” He silently wondered if Neilla would join them.

Nerlyn silently nodded and turned, leading the way back along the path around the edge of the Weyr that led to the docks and Dolphin Craft Hall. The view coming in from the sea had always impressed her even as a child.

R'kig quietly followed her. He wasn't sure if he really felt any better after apologizing or not. He still felt like they were a bit on the wrong foot. Well, he would just have to see what happened. Whatever happened they both needed to eat.

Nerlyn hesitated a little as she arrived in the cavern but a little voice shouting Mama made her put on her mask and smile. “Hello baby.” She greeted as she found K’ron and Raen already starting their meal. “Hello bronze rider.” She kissed his temple before ducking to smother Raen in kisses.

R'kig chuckled as soon as Raen found his mother. The little boy was a real blessing. He knew without Raen that Nerlyn might not be here even with K'ron's help.

K'ron smiled up at his mate, his arm now securely held in a sling. “Hello beautiful.”

“Glad to see you took the advice.” She muttered scooping up Raen onto her lap so R’kig had space to sit down in the busy cavern.

“Daddy couldn’t carry it all so Weyrlingmaster V’ros helped.” Raen sniggered a little into Nerlyn’s ear making the woman smile genuinely for the first time in sevendays.

K'ron raised a brow at his son, since he wasn't always good at whispering. “Sometimes i listen,” K’ron answered smiling as his brother took a seat. “so you two…”

“she didn't try to drown me or feed me to a dragon,” R’kig answered.

“But I warned.” Nerlyn said in a soft voice as Raen was there. She turned him around to carry on eating his tubbers whilst she picked at her own for a moment trying to find some inner strength to face food.

“Many times,” R'kig said with an eye roll.

K'ron shook his head with a chuckle. “You two are too much sometimes,” he smiled, taking a bite of his own meal.

“I am always too much.” Nerlyn said quietly with a roll of her eyes as she looked around at the cavern and the people in around them. It was mostly younger riders at that time of day but they were all chatting and laughing which was soothing.

The bronze rider chuckled. “Wouldn't have it any other way,” he said, grinning at Nerlyn and Raen who seemed very content on his mother's lap.

“I’m gonna grab something to eat. Anyone need anything?” R'kig offered.

“No thank you.” Nerlyn was still trying to get her courage up to eat what was on the plate K’ron and Raen got for her. She moved things around a little before deciding some potatoe would be okay.

The blue rider nodded and disappeared to get his own meal.

K'ron shook his head before looking at Nerlyn. “Are you sure you two are good?” He asked Nerlyn. He didn't want them upset with each other.

“Does it matter? I kept my promise.” Nerlyn commented on not looking at him as she finally found a piece of meat that looked alright. “But we are fine. It’s not just going to go away,” she reminded quietly.

The bronzer narrowed his eyes. “Of course it matters,” he answered. Up until that sharding bronze rider in High Reaches they had all been good. “I know. Trust me I know,” he answered, shifting his injured arm just a little.ed.

Nerlyn said nothing other than shrugged. She was being civil. She wasn’t not just going to forgive but she was willing to work on things. She was not going to just hide her emotions over being drugged and brought back when she had needed time.

K'ron knew better than to push any further. Especially as he didn't want to have this conversation in front of Raen. It seemed they were still going to need to talk though. There was a lot she wasn't saying.

R'kig returned a few minutes later with his own tray of food and slid back into his seat.

“What did you get?” Nerlyn asked, trying to make conversation despite how strained it was. She glanced at K’ron before snuggling Raen against her bump as he eat.

K'ron smiled at his brother, hoping R'kig didn't pick up on the slight tension in the air.

R'kig looked at his plate. “I got some tubers and fresh bread and a couple pieces of meat,” he answered.

“Me too.” Raen spoke up grinning as he bit into his bread. It was always his favourite part of the meal. Nerlyn decided to take his lead and try the bread and butter to see if that could settle her stomach.

“Then you have good taste little man,” R'kig grinned, biting into a tuber. He loved the bread but usually left it as a treat for the end.

“Mama says I do.” The little boy agreed as he looked over the blue rider's shoulder and grinned at someone. “Hi Neilla.” He called as the Green Rider wiggled in next to R’kig.

“Hello everyone.” She greeted calmly.

K'ron chuckled at his son. He had no doubt Nerlyn told him that. “Hey Neilla.”

R'kig grinned over at the green rider as he slid his tray toward her. “Hello green rider,” he smiled, his eyes dancing.

“No thank you. I just came to say hi before I rush off for night sweeps.” She admitted making an exaggerated sad face for Raen.

“I wanna go on sweep.” The boy pouted.

“No you don't, this one is over the sea and down towards the far sea holds. It’ll be chilly.” Neilla assured.

“Uh oh,” R'kig laughed, sliding his plate back over.

“You might have just made it more enticing,” K'ron pointed out. His son loved all things dragon and water and if both were combined even better.

Neilla rolled her eyes at K’ron but nodded. He had a point she had not been thinking clearly and it was everything that Raen loved. “Sorry kid.” Neilla laughed at the pout on the boy's face as Nerlyn whispered something to him which made him giggle.

“I do not like being cold.” Raen commented quietly.

“I agree. Being cold isn't fun,” K'ron agreed with his son. He was glad Nerlyn had distracted the boy. R'kig chuckled. He could understand Raen's viewpoint. The poor boy.

Nerlyn picked up her fork again and started to tackle sone of the meat. “So Raen stays here and your aunt gets to go freeze.” Nerlyn teased a little trying to sound more like herself.

“Hmm I think staying warm here sounds like the better idea,” K'ron agreed. When he had some time he would have to take Raen up on Tyreth. He couldn't between but his bronze still needed to stretch his wings.

“Poor Neilla,” R'kig said. “How are you going to warm up again?”

Nerlyn raised an eyebrow as she looked between the pair. Neilla shrugged leaning back a little before she realised it wasn’t a backed chair. She was a little better at keeping her emotions in check so she just smiled. “What I usually say when young children are around klah.”

“And their parents thank you.” Nerlyn grinned.

G’len appeared behind Neilla and put hands on her shoulder and squeezed a little. Neilla looked up and smiled at the man. “Ah my partner is finally ready.” She declared stealing a tuber from the plate as she stood.

“Sorry I needed a bath after drills. Wingleader… Journeywoman.” He said formally with a wink. “Tiny human.” He added, making Raen giggle. “R’kig.” He added seeing the younger man was there with the group.

R'kig laughed. “Good answer.” Anything else was definitely something that little ears like Raen didn't need to hear. “Hey!” He laughed as Neilla stole a tuber. “wing second,” he said with a slight incline of his head.

K'ron shook his head as he listened to Neilla and R'kig. It was good to see R'kig laughing again. It had been too long. “G'len,” he smiled. “how are things going?”

“Not too bad. Glad when you are back with us next sevenday.” He said hopeful. He enjoyed the work but he would be thankful when K’ron was back among the wing. He was a wing second, not wingleader.

“Come on brown rider otherwise we’ll never get back with some light.” Neilla said looping her arm through G’len to tug him off.

K'ron laughed. “That is quite a dismissal green rider,” he teased her. But she was right. The pair did need to get going. “If all goes well I should be able to rejoin next sevenday.” He really didn’t like being on the sidelines.

“If he behaves,” Nerlyn spoke up.

“Mama is going to tie him up,” Raen said helpfully making G’len chuckle.

“Oh you know I love you K'ron, I let you keep my sister don’t I? Don’t give me that tone.” Neilla threw over her shoulder as she hauled G’len off grinning. The brown rider waved knowing that he had no time to say anything.

The bronze rider lifted a brow. “Oh, you do do you?” He asked before looking at his mate. “Seriously? Now I'm getting tied up?” R'kig bit down a laugh. This was quite entertaining to listen to.

Nerlyn looked at the boy, then back at her mate, and shrugged innocently. It had been an offhand comment at her most frustrated. “You might enjoy it,” Nerlyn said flatly as she gave up and just decided to pick at the bread.

K'ron stared at his mate in surprise. He had not expected to hear something like that. R'kig laughed. “I think we should leave your mommy and daddy alone, Raen,” he smiled.

“No, I want my mama.” The boy said wrapping an arm around Nerlyn making the woman laugh. She glanced at K’ron and winked before turning to assure the little boy she was not leaving him and the blue rider had been teasing.

“Okay, okay,” R'kig smiled. “You can stay with your mama.” He wouldn't have really made the boy leave. It was just funny listening to K'ron and Nerlyn. K'ron just shook his head as Koda appeared, now begging for food.

“R’kig was just teasing. He will only ever borrow you with permission from me and your dad.”Nerlyn smiled at the the brown firelizard as Periodot peeked her head out of Nerlyn’s pocket before disappearing back inside. “He can have this.” Nerlyn offered up her plate with several meat slices on it. “Peridot eat at Dolphin Hall and is in a food coma in my pocket.”

“Of course I would never make you go with me, Raen,” R'kig assured his nephew.

Koda cheeped happily and bobbed his head as K'ron took the offered meat rolls. “Ah that explains why we haven't seen her.”

Nerlyn smiled at R’kig and nodded in agreement before she carried on the conversation wanting to move it on so the little boy would not concentrate on that factor. “She is also unsteady in flying still but swimming she is pretty good.” Nerlyn said, shrugging. No one had mentioned if that was bad and Nerlyn enjoyed watching the green tackle things. She smiled at Koda as he cheeped.

K'ron fed his brown one of the meatrolls. Koda happily munched on the food. “She'll learn. Just like dragonets they learn at different speeds. Swimming has probably been easier since you are in the water a lot.”

“Gets her wings strong.” Nerlyn shrugged. She was not worried, she knew much like Leaneth had the little flit would do the same. “Well, I should get this little one to bed.” Nerlyn decided as Raen had finished his food and was looking sleepy.

K'ron nodded. He knew that Nerlyn would know how to care for the baby. “Of course. I'm gonna finish my food and then I'll be up.”

“Stay … catch up.” She offered as Raen crawled out of her lap to give K’ron a tight hug.

“Night night Daddy.” The boy said quietly.

K'ron returned his son's hug. “Night bud. I'll see you in the morning,” he said softly, kissing the boy’s hair. “I'll see you in a bit, Ner.”

Raen snuggled close for a moment before he jumped down to help Nerlyn with her satchel. Nerlyn nodded touching his good shoulder gently as she gathered most of the plates and bowls together and led Raen out of the Cavern.

K'ron gave her a gentle smile, watching them walk away. He loved his little family.
