Lana loved running, it was one of the few exercises that she had always felt like she could achieve as a female rider without having to try and be as tough as the male riders which was impossible. She could haul Firestone sacks like them but could she do it over and over like the fighting wings no, so she made it her daily chore since she had been a weyrling other than bad pregnancy days or when Kalaith was clutching. It helped her relaxed and got her mind off the Weyr and focused on her breathing and Kalaith mostly. She stopped bending over breathing heavily as she returned to the Weyr along the coast path. She would have never done that route with dragon hold having gone around and around the Weyr bowl then but now the coast path to dolphineer craft hall and back was perfect to stretch herself.
K'rei had been able to spend some time down with the dolphineers while Mantith enjoyed a nap in the sun. Now though he needed to get back. although as he walked he didn't really expect to run into anyone. “Weyrwoman,” he smiled, recognizing the gold rider as he neared. Rylin grumbled from his shoulder.
Lana looked up from bending over trying to capture her breath to look at the voice calling out to her. She was sweat soaked and most likely red faced but she smiled embarrassed little as she faced the man. “Good evening K’rei.” She said breathless.
The blue rider smiled. “Out for a run?” he asked, stating the obvious. It was nice to see the Weyrwoman out and about. High Reaches hadn't had that luxury and the Weyrleader was lost.
“Yeah. I like to run the path there and back to craft hall if I can. If not I do a couple of laps of the bowl.” Lana revealed her routine with a smile as she took another deep breath. “It's a bit hotter than normal.” She admitted standing up properly.
}: Who are you talking to? :{ Kalaith was interested as she could see her rider at the entrance to the bowl talking.
***Mantith’s rider from the north.*** Lana explained.
“Thank Faranth,” K'rei groaned. “I thought it was always this hot. I am so glad it isn't always this hot.” He was definitely to the north. “Sounds like a good route to run. I’m still learning the routes.”
Lana could remember the confusion of trying to find your way when you first came to the Weyr. “Oh it does get much hotter. Would suggest less riding leathers outside of thread if possible to help.” Lana giggled as she looped her arm through the man and led him back inside the Weyr. “It is like a maze but it does get easier. Or you just accept you will always be asking for directions.”
“Wait, hotter?” He asked. Shards that didn't sound good at all. Well he was here now and he loved it. “Mazes? Just perfect,” he laughed as she looped her arm through his. “I might be lost a lot then.”
Lana smiled and tugged him back towards the Weyr seeing they both were heading that direction. “We were built when the stonemason Crafters got the tools but you have been to bigger Weyrs.” Lana said quietly. The Weyr was several hundred turns old but it was nowhere as big or expansive as High Reaches but it did have a lot more open space.
He laughed a bit as Lana tugged him along. It felt odd if he was honest. High Reaches Weyrwoman had never been this friendly, especially to lowly blue riders. And their poor gold weyrling was young and had enough of her own issues to deal with. “True. I guess I have just never seen such a Weyr. It's so open and inviting.”
“It’s the south but if it’s too much I can back off and be more northern.” Lana said, pulling her arm free politely. She was trying to be approachable especially after they had bonded in the north.
K'rei quickly shook his head. He hadn't meant any disrespect by it. “No, please don't,” he said. “I like being able to approach my Weyrwoman and not feel as if I am insignificant.”
“Every rider is important K’rei. Why I make a point of knowing everyone’s name.” Lana said sadly as she realised she would have a lot to learn about these northern riders and how they responded to her.
He slowly nodded as he listened. “And I thank you Weyrwoman,” he smiled. He appreciated her efforts but he knew of some riders who wouldn't. Not to mention he knew some Bronze riders who wouldn't think the way Lana did.
“So tell me how I can help the northern riders adjust better?” She finally ventured realising she most likely looked un Weyrwoman like in shorts and a loose vest top.
K'rei considered her words and the best way to answer her. “I think the way you are being with the blue and green riders will be nice. Being approachable is a new change. The bronze riders and some of the brown riders will be a bit harder. The bronze riders especially. I think being open and willing to answers will help.”
“They will learn I do not put up with the bronze rider antics.” Lana winked as a pair of riders passed them and nodded respectfully to Lana who inclined her head in the haughty manner the north seemed to be used too
K'rei raised a brow, biting back a smile as he watched Lana. So she could be like the northern riders if she wanted to be. Of course he had seen her take command when K'ron had been hurt. “I see that,” he smiled.
“Women are not beaten down in the south but I can act if I need to.” The woman laughed as she looked at the blue rider and his raised brow. “But people need to adapt or they won’t thrive here.” Lana had adapted from being crafter to weyrling, weyrling to junior Queen rider and finally junior Queen rider to Weyrwoman. It had happened all in under 2 turns so she knew it was possible.
He nodded. “Something that is a breath of fresh air.” It had been nice to see all the riders at ease with each other. “I would hope adapting would be easy. It's been a nice change.”
“We shall see.” Lana said as she saw A’ren walking towards the cavern with Calarya and his wingthird in tow. She smiled turning back to the blue rider. “We are not hard to adapt to but if see anyone struggling please send them to their wingleader or us… Weyrleaders.” Lana requested.
K'rei nodded. “I will,” he promised. He loved being at River Cove. It was so easy to settle in and be with riders who weren't always on edge.
“Then I better leave you to your meal as I need to bathe and change.” She said knowing she could not go to dinner like that nor did she want to when she was hot and sweaty.
“Thank you for the walk, Weywoman,” he smiled. It was nice to have an easy relationship with the Weyrleaders.
Lana inclined her head in a much more relaxed way to the man as she started to jog across the Weyr to get ready before anyone missed her.
