Mission: 3531 AL
Location: River Cove Weyr
Timeline: M2 D3

Lenya was sure something had happened that was important as she woke up and glanced around the bedroom. It was pitch black with no glows turned over. Why would K’yar or herself have forgotten to do that with their daughter around? She glanced over at her sleeping mate and realised something was different: they were both naked in bed with furs and sheets all over the place. That had not happened in a very long time, Lenya frowned as she realised exactly what had happened. She could remember them both walking back from breakfast talking about going to the jungle again and then they had both realised it seconds before the bellow from Zalyith as Lana had charged past them hastily looking like she was wearing someone else’s flight gear that a queen flight was about to happen.

She shifted a little to roll over and look at the man in the darkness and smiled at the way he looked so relaxed for the first time in forever. She lent out a touched his lip before shifting forward to kiss him awake.

The morning had been going pretty nicely. Breakfast was nice and they were making plans for the day when it seemed like everything had turned upside down. K'yar had glanced at Lenya just as they both realized what was going on just before Lana ran past them. The rest seemed a blur as they raced back to their weyr, trying to avoid running into anyone else. Then nothing.

K’yar sighed softly at Lenya’s light touch before she kissed him. He opened his green eyes partway as a sleepy smile touched his lips. “hi.”

“Hello, brown rider.” She greeted with a much more awake smile. She had not been at the Weyr last time a Queen had risen so had not quite experienced the overwhelming feeling of the mating in a very long time but she knew that she had very much enjoyed it. They had spoken about it in the jungle about trying to get back to normal but she had not expected anything to come of it as quickly as Lenya had still been trying to work through her emotions of knowing K’yar had turned elsewhere and that person had been Riana but knowing she was not coming back and the fact that K’yar genuinely seemed to want to sort things out had been making things so much easier.

He rubbed his eyes a bit to wake up more. Shards, the gold flight. Now he remembered a bit of it and looked over at Lenya. “You okay?” K’yar asked softly, rolling over to see her better. He hoped the flight had helped and not hindered their progress.

The woman could see the moment he woke up in his eyes as he panicked and shifted looking her up and down. “I am,” Lenya assured leaning down, pulling up the sheet over them both. It was still warm so furs were not needed but she needed something over herself to make things a little less awkward. “Are you?” She wondered gently.

K'yar blew out a breath when he realized that Lenya was okay. “I am,” he smiled, relaxing again. He scrubbed at his face. “Well that was unexpected, “ he said softly, looking over at her with a crooked grin.

“It was.” She grew settled back down to lying on her side again watching him trying to work out whether he was truly okay or whether he was putting on an act to try and make things better. “But… but… I very much enjoyed it.” She whispered gently. “I had forgotten how nice it felt.” It had been a great reminder of how nice things had been before Kiyna had been born and the trauma of that event had caused her.

The brown rider slid closer to his mate. “I enjoyed it too,” he admitted. He hadn't wanted to push things as he knew they had both been through a lot when little Kiyna joined the world. He was glad to have her back though. “And you know it can always be nice.”

“I remember.” She laughed. “It has not been so long that I do not remember how good it can be K’yar. I just… it was complicated wasn’t it?”She sighed, stretching a little thinking of the fact she had needed to process very likely having no more children and then him and Riana. It had taken a while for her to trust him and more importantly in herself both events had destroyed her self confidence.

He blew out a soft breath as he snuggled close to her. “It was. It had been a real mess,” he agreed. His sharding mother and her bright ideas. K'yar nearly lost Lenya and Kiyna. “Never again,” he promised. “Dragon Hold is gone.”

Lenya watched as he snuggled against her side and she smiled gently. She leaned out and ran a hand along the scars on his neck as she relaxed listening to his words. “I know. You and Kylith took me there to see where the Weyrleaders had burnt it to the ground.”

K'yar closed his eyes at her gentle touch. He hated that scar but at least they were all alive. He nodded a bit. He had needed to see it for himself too. That place had been awful. “And now you're all mine,” he smiled, opening his eyes again.

“Always been that.” She said gently moving her hand to touch his shoulder. “Begs the questions of you are all mine though?” She asked the question ducking her head to press a kiss to his shoulder. She did not want to drag up the past but it needed to be said to draw a line under Riana and that aspect of their life.

He had never doubted that. He had feared he had lost her to the Healer Hall at one point but she did come back. Her question froze his hand on her arm as he realized she had every right to ask that. He had been a fool there for a bit. “All yours, Len. Always. I'll never leave.” He would never make that mistake again.

The woman nodded at his answer. Lenya had forgiven him for the most part but there was till a barrier between them sometimes but she could see it written in his eyes and accepted it for what it was. “Then I better have this back.” She whispered looping her fingers around the chain around his neck that carried her ring and pulled him closer to kiss.

K'yar knew he still had some making up to do. He had messed up. Nerlyn had made sure he knew that as soon as he returned and he would spend the rest of his life showing Lenya she was the only one. “Oh what if I've gotten used to it?” He teased as she tugged him close and kissed him. That ring has never been far from him.

“Then keep it. Whatever makes you happy.” She said solemnly before smiling at him. She would never hold him back from his heart's wishes, she just was not going to play second place to someone else. She was not going to let it tear her down and destroy her anymore.

“Nope. I had it made for you,” he said softly. It had taken him a long time to settle on that design. He had wanted it perfect. He leaned over and kissed her again.

Lenya smiled as he kissed her again leaning over to press close to her, cutting off any comment she had for the moment. Her hand ran from the chain to caress his cheek enjoying the familiarity of him.

“I could get used to this,” he whispered huskily, that sharding scar still making it hard to talk long. He gave her a loving smile as her hand trailed up to his cheek. He had fallen for her the first time he had met her and he nearly ruined that.

“Better do.” She said leaning around him to undo the chain and wiggle the ring free from between them as it dropped to her chest. She smiled as she put it back where it had not been in a turn since she had sent it back thinking she was going to stay at Far Site.

A true smile lit up K'yar's face. The ring was finally back where he had always hoped it would be again one day. “Perfect,” he grinned, running his hand down her arm. He had missed her and the easy relationship they used to have.

Lenya nodded as she stared at the familiar band on her finger. The man had made a bold gesture as a rider to her with it but it was completely in character for him to do so. “So what happens now?” She wondered lowering her hand to grab the chain putting it on his bedside table.

It seemed like things may actually be working themselves out again. “Well I think we still take things at an easy pace if that is what you want and if you truly want we can sort out a wedding,” he offered. “Don't know the specifics of that with riders but I'll make it work.”

“I don’t think I need that K’yar. I did a turn or so ago but things have changed for me and how I view things.” She admitted wiggling to get a little more comfortable

He shifted his arm over her waist and kissed her forehead. “Are you sure?” He asked gently. The brown rider would make it work to make her happy.

“Mmmhmm” she assured. She had not exactly been brought up with marriage being the be end of all of everything in Dragon Hold and she had wanted it to control the situation but on reflection, it was not how things were done in her new home where she wanted to stay.

K'yar nodded. He just wanted her to be happy. That was what really mattered. He ran a hand through her hair to brush it out of her face. “I love you, Lenya.”

“And I love you back Brown Rider.” She declared before she made a face as she realised how much darker the bedroom had become in the last candlemark or so since she had woken up. “But I think I need to go and retrieve our daughter it is black in here,” She laughed realising how long they had been either together thanks to the flight or asleep. She suspected it had been the flight but still, it was going to be awkward enough facing the teenagers who were tasked with looking after the younglings when flights happened but any longer and they would be in trouble.

He chuckled a bit. “Probably a good idea. I will clean up in here a bit.” they had definitely been there for a while. Not that he was complaining at all. It had been enjoyable and they had been together.

“Yeah…” Lenya blushed as she glanced around at the clothes everywhere and bedding but shook her head. She quickly used the distraction of contemplation to get up to bathe to go to retrieve their daughter. She might be used to the Weyr but she was not quite as used to the freedom of everything, that would eventually come she knew. She was better but not perfect.
