Senabena looked around for her little partner in crime and noticed that both Rena and Brenna were nowhere to be seen. It was strange but maybe Rena had taken her daughter to bed but she could not remember seeing her in a little bit. She tapped Bensen on the shoulder and waited politely until he turned around before she started explaining why she had interrupted his conversation with some journeymen about Storm and the issues with him.

“Where is your wife? And where is our niece?” She wondered speaking over the harper noise. She was not prepared to refer to Brenna as his child or anything so it seemed easier to keep the relationship to how it had always been.

It had taken some convincing but Bensen had finally listened to his wife and gone back to entertaining their guests. He turned though when Senabena tapped his shoulder.

A frown touched his lips as he looked around. “she had been sitting on the bench over there. Maybe she decided to put Bre to bed and just stayed herself. She was pretty tired.”

Senabena glanced at the bench when 3 apprentices sat looking nervous around at their first big event. She could not blame them if she was honest but her father had invited all the harpers. “I have seen her since then. I am going to see if I can find her and just check if everything is okay.” The teenager said feeling a little bit unease that Rena had not said anything about leaving.

“I'll help,” Bensen said quickly. He knew he should have stayed with her. “Surely she can't be far.” Although if she did take Brenna to bed he was surprised the little girl didn't find him to say good night.

Senabena paused. She did not mean to worry the man but she thought it was just a little odd as she turned around to stop and pointed to her parents who had Brenna on their lap. “They must have seen Rena.” She decided feeling silly now

A frown touched his face when Senabena pointed to Brenna. “Alright, that is odd,” he said, feeling worried now. She wouldn't have just left without saying something. .

Senabena looped her arm through his as she led him to where the Lord and Lady Holder were sat. “Hello Aunty Abe.” Brenna said using her nickname as she lit up as she saw her favourite people.

“Hello sweetheart. Where is your mama?” The teenager wondered.

“She was talking to the Weyrleaders.” Brenna said pouting a little.

Bensen didn't have much option as Senabena tugged him away. He smiled at Brenna though. “Hey Bre.”

The Weyrleaders? He looked around to see if they were still there. How had he missed Rena with them?

Lord Oben settled Brenna on Sean’s lap as the little girl laughed before snuggling into her grandmother's arms. “You both look worried?” The man demanded looking around for the Weyrleaders and spotted them dancing together but no Rena with them.

Bensen tried not to look concerned when he didn't see Rena with the Weyrleaders. “Was just looking for Rena was all,” he answered.

Lord Oben looked around but he could not see her either. He turned to one of the nearest Hold Guards and murmured instructions to him. The man nodded and disappeared off. “He is going to look as well but maybe we need to go check other places.” The man suggested.

Bensen didn't like this at all. Rena wouldn't have just disappeared without saying anything. He blew out a soft breath. “Good idea.” He smiled at Brenna, not wanting the girl to worry.

“Abe…” The man said gently. “Go with Bensen and check the usual route to your rooms.” He instructed gently but firmly. “I will check the harper areas.” He was surprised that if there were any issues than Cadence had not come to someone for help but you just never knew.8

Bensen waited for his sister while their mother kept Brenna occupied who looked pretty close to falling asleep. He got in step with Senabena. “I don't like this.”

“Me either,” Senabena said quietly as the pair slipped from the grand hall to start walking the usual way back to where their rooms were and where hopefully where the Harper was. “Has she been okay?” She wondered not having seen her properly for a few days as they were all back on a normal routine.

“She had been,” he answered. “Today though she nearly missed the chair when she sat down. She claimed it was because she was tired and top heavy.” Bensen hadn't believed it but hadn’t been able to prove it either.

“Sounds just like her.” Sena sighed to herself. Even if there had been anything wrong she was sure that the woman would not have said anything anyway. “Rena would not have to…” She opened a door to the nearest toilet closest to the Grand Hall and let out a cry as she found Rena on the floor unconscious and dived into the small space.

His sister had a point. Rena wouldn't have told him anyhow. His eyes widened when his sister cried. “What can I do?” He demanded, not able to get inside since there were two women there.

“You get in here and lift her out. I am going to find a healer.” Senabena said, stepping over the woman reluctant to leave even as she hitched up her dress to start running back to the celebration.

Bensen nodded, trying to remain calm. Once Senabena had moved he was able to get in next to Rena. “Oh Ren,” he whispered, gently lifting her into his arms. “Why didn't you say something?”

The woman did not answer or move even as she was laid down in the corridor. Senabena raced back to the grand hall and looked around desperately trying to find a healer that she recongnised but all she could see was beast crafter and Harpers.

“Are you okay Lady Senabena?” Lana asked seeing the girl looking panicked as she was walking to get a drink.

“No… It’s Rena. We…” The girl was desperate and in shock. She knew what had happened the last time that Rena had been found like this.

Bensen held Rena close. He wanted to get her back to her room where he could lay her down but he didn't want Senabena to not know where he was, so that left him standing in the hallway waiting. “Ren, don't you dare do this to me,” he whispered. “Bre can't lose her mom too.”

“Weyrleader go find healers.” Lana ordered as she started to roll her sleeves up and indicated to the girl to lead the way. Lana followed at a quick pace and took off when she saw the man holding the woman scared in the corridor. “She has a pulse. Let’s get her to your infirmary.” Lana ordered the pair taking charge as she checked the woman’s pulse.

A'ren nodded. He had learned not to question Lana when she got that tone.

Bensen looked up as he heard steps approaching. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw help coming. He nodded mutely as Lana said to head for the infirmary. At least Lana seemed calm because he wasn't.

Lana quickly turned the glows over as they got inside the infirmary and moved several baskets closer to the cot she wanted the woman laid on. “Set her down.” She ordered quickly and started setting out untying the bodice of the dress. “Bensen look through that self for something called Glowleaf.” She instructed giving him something to do so he did not stand there worrying.

The young man gently laid his wife down on the cot as Lana instructed. He nodded quickly and headed for the shelf. at least looking for something kept his hands occupied. He hated not being able to do anything to help.

“How far along is she?” Lana asked, chucking the bodice aside as she started to press on Rena’s stomach checking over the baby before grabbing up a Pinard horn pressing it against the woman’s stomach.

Bensen grabbed up the Glowleaf. He froze at her question. had he ever asked. “Ah around 7 months I think,” he answered.

“You think?” Lana asked as she took the bottle from him and thrust it under Rena’s noise but got no response. She glanced up as A’ren and Senabena came in with a crowd of men and women. “She’s not responsive to the glowleaf smell. Baby’s heart rate seems steady but Rena’s is racing and her hands are swollen. Look?” Lana gently lifted the woman’s hand.

“Pre-eclampsia…” The Masterhealer realised as he understood what the Weyrwoman was hinting at.

“Yes.” Lana said gently as she stepped back to let the proper healers with current experience take over and looped her arm around Bensen to pull him to where A’ren was.

He flushed but nodded. He knew it had to have been when Oseben was still alive but he wasn't sure by how much time. Bensen's eyes widened as Lana tugged him away from Rena. A'ren glanced at his mate. This didn't sound good at all.

Senabena rushed in with her parents. “Enabon is putting Brenna to bed.” She explained as she looked at all the people around Rena. “What is going on?” Senabena demanded in a soft tone not able to stop watching despite her father pulling her back.

“Lady Rena is suffering Pre-eclampsia. The exact cause isn't fully understood even now but it’s thought the placenta of the baby isn’t getting enough blood so the blood supply between mother and baby is disrupted.” Lana explained quietly. “But she has the Masterhealer of the south here.” Lana said positively.

“What?” Bensen repeated humbly. This couldn't be happening. “And Rena? Will she…” he trailed off, not even able to think about it. Sena stepped up to her daughter to gently lead her away while A'ren stayed with Lana. This was bad.

Lana glanced at A’ren and shook her head as she heard Rena’s feeble voice confused behind them. “I do not know. They need to deliver the baby at this stage as the likelihood is she had a fit which was why Lady Senabena found her on the floor and hope she recovers.” Lana said quietly as she touched Bensen’s arm. “Come on Lord Bensen, let's sit outside and let them work.” She said quietly.

A'ren pressed his lips together. This was bad. very bad. He could see it written on Lana’s face.

“Wait, what? Deliver the baby?” Bensen asked in disbelief. How had this happened? He humbly let Lana tug him away, looking back at Rena. Why hadn't she told him anything? Tears slid down his pale cheeks as his legs gave out from under him. He probably would have taken Lana with him if A'ren hadn't grabbed his other arm.

Sena pressed a hand to her mouth before she ushered Senabena and Oben away from the door.

“Whoa Bensen.” Lana murmured, pulling her arm away to help haul him up to the nearest chair outside the infirmary. Lana knelt by him and started on his pulse checking him for shock.

“The girl is not full term yet. She is …what seven or eight months?” Oben said, starting to pace. How had the night gone from a celebration to this.

“Closer to eight months.” Senabena said quietly as she sat down stubbornly despite her mothers ushering. She was not leaving until she knew what was happening properly.

“Then the baby will be small but they will have a good chance.” Lana assured quickly. She could not say the same for Rena but the baby’s heart rate had sounded fine.

Bensen weakly slid into the chair. His eyes weren't at all focused as his skin was an ashy color. He was in complete shock. How had this happened? Why had it happened?

Sena glared at her daughter but she wasn't going to argue. “And Rena?” She asked, motioning for one of the servants to get drinks for everyone to help calm them.

Lana hated this type of situation and it made realise that dragon riders were an easier bunch to deal with after the last ten turns of being a rider and working as a healer there.

“I do not know. They will not be able to tell until they can deliver the baby. The damage might have already been done.” Lana said honestly as one of the healers came out and indicated for the Weyrwoman. “I will come back and keep you informed. A’ren stay with them.” Lana whispered pecking him quickly on the cheek before she left to go back into the infirmary.

A'ren nodded. He would do his best to keep everyone calm. He knew Lana would do what she could.

Bensen looked up with wide frightened eyes. He couldn't lose Rena. They were just starting to figure out their lives together not to mention Brenna needed her mother. She had already lost her father.

A hand flew to Sena's mouth, trying not to make a sound. She didn't want to worry anyone with her own worries.

Oben put his hand on his wife’s shoulder and squeezed. “It will work out.” He assured the group quietly. He was not losing the girl or child.
