Weyrleader Clean Up Catch Up

Lana watched everyone pile out of the meeting room and finally leaned back in her familiar chair and sighed deeply. It had been the first fall they had had in sevendays that had been awkward and hard enough to cause deaths. It was being felt around the Weyr that was for sure according to Kalaith who was stood on her ledge watching the weyrbowl. The queen was on edge but would soon simmer down once Lana did.

A'ren scrubbed at his face once everyone had left. They hadn't had a fall like that in a long time and he hoped they didn't anytime soon. He looked over at his mate as Zarminath informed him of Kaliath being on edge. “You okay?” He asked.

Lana raised an eyebrow at his question. “I will be now the keening has stopped,” Lana assured, finally taking off her flight jacket putting it down on the table in front of her and frowned at the dust on it.

The Weyrleader nodded. “Today was not good at all,” he said quietly. They had been caught completely by surprise for this Fall. Two deaths were two too many. He knew their riders would be feeling it for a while and he had a feeling there would be a lot in the dining cavern later.

“No it was not but it was not our inability or lack of training. Thread sometimes just does not fall how we expect them too.” She murmured softly rolling her shoulders from the straps of her flame thrower. “We need to speak to the starsmiths.”

A'ren blew out a breath. The wings had been well trained and had done everything they could. “No everyone did what was needed and expected. Once again Thread didn't play fair.” He nodded. “I agree.”

“I can go in the morning? Or you can go and discuss it with some wingleaders.” She offered knowing he liked to stretch his wings as much as her sometimes.

A'ren considered her offer. It would be nice to get out and see what was going on. “I think I'd like to talk with some of the wingleaders and get their views.”

Lana nodded. It was more his area but Lana had the time to go and coordinate with them. “Sign of a good Weyrleader.” Lana soothed rising wearily to her feet. “Bathe and Cavern? Or Cavern then bathe?” She asked quietly, giving him no option to avoid the cavern tonight. They both needed to be there after deaths.

He sighed, knowing she was right in the fact they needed to be down at the cavern even if they didn't feel like it. “Bathe then cavern,” he answered, needing a few more moments to get things together.

“Okay then.” Lana nodded silently, getting up squeezing his shoulders as she passed him on her way out to their living area. She would leave it up to him whether he joined her or not.

A'ren managed a smile as she passed. He pushed to his feet, following his mate. Hopefully this evening went smoothly but he had a feeling their riders would be upset.

Lana turned as she heard the heavy footsteps behind her and smiled. “I thought you wanted time alone?” She said leaning back to take his band in hers, weaving her fingers through his as they walked the short distance from the meeting room to their living area.

*** Are you coming in?*** Lana wondered softly.

}: No. I want to keep watch. :{ Kalaith commented.

“Never without you,” he smiled as she caught his hand. “Just need a little before we face our rider.” He knew they would have to be strong and he wanted a bit of time to relax and get prepared.

Zarminath looked over at his golden mate from his spot on their ledge. He crooned softly to her.

Lana smiled and ran her thumb over his cheek. “We have a little time.” She assured as she heard her gold croon back but not come back inside. “Kalaith has decided that she wants to keep watch.” Lana admitted knowing the Queen had to be exhausted like she felt but she was refusing to back down.

He closed his eyes at her gentle touch. “good,” he said quietly. A little time was all he needed. “That doesn't surprise me. She keeps a close eye on her dragons,” A'ren smiled. Kaliath was a good gold.

Lana smiled proudly. Kalaith really did keep a close eye on them but Lana wished she would rest a little. “Go and wash up whilst I try and get her to rest.” Lana said letting go of his hand.

He nodded, knowing Lana wouldn't give up until her gold did. “See you soon,” he said, kissing her cheek before heading into the bathing room.

Soon came soon enough with Lana slipping into the pool nearly half a candlemark later surprised to find him still there. She ducked under the surface soaking herself relieved to feel cooler. “She has curled up on the ledge.” It was not perfect but it was something.

The water had felt good and A'ren wasn't in any hurry to get out. He gave his mate a smile when she finally joined him. “Well it's something at least,” he agreed.

Lana did not comment as she was still trying to get the Queen to go to her own couch and curl up and rest properly but Kalaith was refusing until the Weyr was settled down again. She quietly scrubbed at her hair feeling some relief from her brewing headache.

A'ren moved over next to her and gently touched her shoulder. “Turn around. I'll do your shoulders,” he offered, seeing how it looked like she had a headache. Not that he was surprised. It had been a lot.

Lana looked up as the man appeared in front of her as she scrubbed at her head trying to find the part that was hurting. She nodded and turned around. “Thank you.” She breathed as he touched her shoulders.

The Weyrleader got some sweetsand and set to work on massaging her shoulders. “you're really tense,” he commented as he worked at a tight muscle in her neck.

“I think I had the flamethrower strap a little too tight.” She admitted between that and several between jumps for falling pairs, Lana had a pretty busy fall workout Jena there.

He cringed. “That would do it,” he agreed. No wonder she was tense. And he knew she had her hands full without Jena. The clutch was great but it made it tough for Falls.

“Got a spare rider I can lend?” She wondered quietly, wincing at the knots he found, and she pulled away from him. “That hurt.” She frowned.

He chuckled softly. “I can certainly look,” he offered. A'ren cringed. “Sorry, I'll try to be more gentle.”

Lana winced still as she rolled her shoulders trying to see if it was working. “Oh no… It’s my body. I need it, but I don’t need to like it.” The woman said as she was pulled back to the man, and his attempts to help her.

The Weyrleader nodded. “True. Are you feeling any better?” He asked as he continued to massage her tense muscles. She had definitely done a number on her body.

“A little.” She said quietly. “Are you?” She asked, turning the question back on him, because she was sure that she would heal up quick enough, she was just not as well designed for fighting thread as him.

“I think so. Nothing some sleep won't cure.” He has a few Threadscores that were slathered with numbweed but nothing bad. They could all use some rest, though he was sure.

“Good.” The woman said, feeling a knot in her shoulder pop under his fingers, and she felt her head loll forward a little as she felt her headache start to lift. If she could borrow a bronze or brown from another wing she would not feel quite as drained after fall.

A'ren felt her start to relax and smiled. “I'll talk to the other wingleaders and see about getting you another rider while Jena is with the clutch.” he wanted to help anyway he could.

Lana nodded. “Thank you.” It normally hadn’t been a big deal but with only Jena and Lana as of aged Queen riders and several potential candidates no longer able to fly thanks to pregnancy or injury it was hard. “I wouldn’t ask normally….” She started but winced as he caught the last knot.

A'ren shook his head. “Its okay. I'll see what i can do,” he promised. He knew that she was under a lot of stress with being down a few riders. “Sorry. That one was bad.”

“I’m not asking as your mate but as the wingleader of amethyst wing.” She said, rolling her shoulder and turned to look up at the man. “Better than a healer.” She praised knowing it would have been bad enough for her to ask a healer this time.

“I know,” he assured her. “which is why I will talk with the other wingleaders. We'll get you a couple more riders,” he promised. He was sure between all the wings they could spare a couple riders. He chuckled. “Well i’m glad I could help there.”

“I am sure assuring you that because I have you in my bed I am not suing you for gin.” She teased poking his chest before kissing where she had poked. “Me too. My headache is gone too.” She whispered relieved as she really did not want to have to sleep a migraine off when her riders needed her.

He laughed a bit. “Hey now,” he smiled before she kissed his chest. She could be a tease. “That's great. I was hoping the massage would help with that.” Headaches were the worst.

“Thank you A’ren. It helped enough that I can focus again and we can go face the Weyr together.” She breathed as she ducked under the water to get all the sweet sand off of her.
