Timeline: M1 D20
K'ron blew out a breath as he tried to keep himself from pacing a hole in the weyr floor. He knew he should be happy and excited and he was but he was scared too. He didn't want to lose Nerlyn. They had come too close to that way more times than he wanted to count.
The bronze rider ran a hand through his dark hair, knowing he needed to pull it together. Nerlyn needed him to be strong, not bawling like a weyrling.
Nerlyn was late back but she could feel that the weyr was on heightened emotions with a queen flight due any day soon and it was even worse in her weyr as K’ron was running on nerves and klah despite the discussion over time being needed to think on it all. “I do not believe Tula would appreciate that hole you are trying to put into the floor.” Nerlyn shot seeing the glows were down low which signified that Rean was sound asleep.
K'ron nearly jumped and turned quickly at the voice. Koda cheeped at him as if scolding him. "Ah, well, I didn't even notice, " he admitted sheepishly. It had just been something to do while processing his thoughts.
Nerlyn stood there looking him over for a moment. He seemed unhurt so the pacing could not be because of injury so it had to be his normal routine of processing. “You are pacing because weyr, wing or me?” She asked deciding to come into the living area to see him better.
The bronze rider finally managed to stop pacing for the moment anyhow. He still hadn't processed everything. Not only was the gold flight due soon but he was worried about his mate. K'ron blew out a soft breath. "My wing is actually doing well. Everyone is on edge with the upcoming flight, but really you're my biggest concern," he slowly admitted.
“Well that is all well and good but I am fine.” Nerlyn really felt fine. Tired from lack of sleep and busy days but she felt healthier than she had in turns before and after becoming a dragonrider. Being a dolphineer had made her fitter in a way that suited her as she had been as a rider.
He raised a dark brow. "Are you really?" He asked softly. He wanted to believe it and wanted to be happy about another little one. That would be great for Raen after all and with Nerlyn being a dolphineer they could keep the kids at the weyr with them.
“Have I shown any signs that I am unwell?” She wondered countering his words. She could see the emotion all over his face but she needed to see where his head was properly before they spoke more about it.
K'ron considered her words as Tyreth grumbled in his head. "You're right. I am sorry. I am trying not to worry, " he apologized.
Nerlyn knew it was going to be hard on him but she did not expect him to be like that towards her. She put her satchel down by the door and walked closer looking him over. “Tell me what is worrying you Kiron…” she pleaded, sitting down heavily onto the couch.
He looked up when she used his old name, his eyes showing his worry. K'ron reached up and gently touched her cheek. "I just don't want to lose you. I have told myself over and over that I won't but I'm still scared, " he admitted.
She knew using his old name would get him to open up and it took away the stigma of him having to be the strong wing leader. It reminded him he was a man who had real fears. “I understand and I am scared too but we have not even come to a choice about it yet.” She said moving her head to kiss his wrist.
It definitely made him snap out of his thoughts. Being a bronze rider always made him feel like he had to remain strong. He nodded slightly, his grey eyes showing his love for her. "I know. But I also know you. Neither of us really wants to abort the baby unless it's the only way." A smile touched his lips at her soft kiss.
“Exactly but we have had no idea of anything wrong yet. This is like you going into a threadfall believing that you will lose all your wing… it’s impossible to live like that.” She pointed out. It was an impossible view to have and she knew at the first sign of something wrong she would put her life first this time. “I will put my life first.” She finally decided he needed to hear her say it aloud.
That was true. He had never thought of it that way before. He had to stop looking at the downside of things. For all, they knew things would be just fine. A smile finally touched his lips. "Thank you. I can't lose you," he said gently.
“I do not want to lose me either. I am not planning on going anywhere.” She assured him quickly. It was hard to see him looking that scared when she had been taking herbs to prevent a pregnancy but there had been a few days late last month when she had been unwell and maybe there had been a missed day. It was no one’s fault but now it was here she was not going to change it unless her life was in danger. She would rather just have one child than risk her life.
K'ron nodded, his shoulders relaxing a bit. He did not want to go through that again. There were times that Tyreth had been the only thing to keep him going while he tried to keep Nerlyn wanting to fight. "You better not cause I will follow," he assured her.
“You won’t,” Nerlyn said darkly as she pulled back a little to look at him. “You will stay here for our son.” She said shortly. “You do not give up because I’m not here. You are better than that.”
K'ron blinked in surprise. He had not expected that kind of reaction from his words. Unfortunately, he knew she was right. He wouldn't be able to follow. "Just please don't make me have to make that choice."
Nerlyn saw the surprise flicker across his face and sighed, rubbing her eyes. She was hormonal she knew as she could remember even a few sevendays in feeling touchy but it needed to be said. “I promised I will put my life first Ki… I want to be here… well apart from queen flights.” She added as a firm reminder of her boundaries.
He nodded. He knew it had to be said but it still hurt cause he knew he had to stay. "I know you did and I thank you for that." He was glad she had said she would put herself first. "Of course. I completely understand that." Queen flights were hard anyhow.
Nerlyn nodded firmly and rose from the sofa to go to check on the little boy asleep. Their voices had not been raised but there had been lots of words. She pushed aside the wooden barrier then stopped the bit escaping through the weyr at night and slipped into the small room to give both herself and the bronze rider a few moments of time apart. She sat down on the bed and took in the little boy's features, he was a perfect mix of K’ron’s looks and her spunk that sometimes she wondered just how he had grown so much.
K'ron took a deep breath as Nerlyn moved away to check on Raen. He was a bit rattled still but he knew they were all words that needed to be said. At least though this time he felt sure that Nerlyn would do what was best for herself.
Nerlyn returned leaving the boy who smelt of sunshine and berries from his dinner to his sleep going out to his father and just watched him for a moment before she went over to where he stood and pressed against his back. “Please… stop worrying,” Nerlyn whispered, looping her arms around to start undoing the ties.
The bronze rider hadn't heard his mate return until he felt her arms wrap around his waist. He glanced over his shoulder with a warm smile on his face. "Are you trying to distract me?" He asked softly, knowing he needed to relax.
“Very much…is it working?” She knew many ways to distract him without seducing him but she knew exactly what he needed that night. He was tense and frustrated which did not bode well for him and threadful in the morning. She worked on the ties and tugged the shirt free before starting on the belt.
He laughed huskily. "Very much so," he answered. She had always known how to distract him and just what he needed. Shards he loved her.
The woman grinned as she freed the belt then the tunic, tossing it behind her as she pressed a kiss to his shoulder before stepping in front of him. “Good.” She smiled up at him and touched his cheek. “You need to destress… you have fall tomorrow.” She prompted.
K'ron groaned softly. "Shards, love," he whispered. She sure knew how to distract him. "Mmm don't want to think about that right now." He just wanted to be with her.
“I can tell.” Nerlyn grinned and leaned up to kiss him properly. It was perfectly acceptable there and then to distract him away from all his problems and fears. It was for the greater good of the riders that served under him as well as getting them connected intimately in a way that relaxed them enough to think through everything.
"That obvious?" He nearly moaned, leaning into her kiss. Shard it anyhow. He could never think clearly around her. Somehow she always knew what he needed. Of course, they had been best friends before they were ever lovers so that probably helped.
Nerlyn kissed him until she was breathless and nodded. It was obvious but so was the fact they worked well together now, they both found their own passions and life purposes which were not in each other as they should have been. “Very obvious.” She breathed as she hooked her fingers over the bottom of the dress she had worn to walk from Dolphin Bay to her weyr and pulled it over her head.
He pulled her close, not wanting to let her go. He hadn’t realized how much he had needed her till this moment. K'ron nuzzled her neck after she tugged her dress over her head. "Beautiful," he whispered, letting his kisses trail down her bare shoulder. Shards he loved her.
“Not bad yourself. No longer the scrawny teenager.” She teased, closing her eyes at the kisses on her shoulder. She slowly started to push him back towards the couch and pushed him down. She leant over kissing him quickly before kneeling in front of him to take off his boots. She undid them and chucked them to the side with a flourish.
K'ron laughed. "Well thank you. I finally grew up." The bronze rider tumbled back on the couch, laughing as she easily tugged his boots off. "Well then," he grinned.
The woman grinned back at him as she leant forward and started to undo the ties on his trousers. “Well then?” she asked just watching his reactions.
He shook his head with a chuckle and hs ran his fingers up her spine. "You sure know how to distract a person," he breathed, shivering at her touch.
“I know how to distract you.”
She corrected him with a smirk. She had always known how to distract him but she had never used it to her advantage other than that night to get them away from the discussion over the baby. “Lift up.” She instructed tugging his trousers and pants down leaving him naked in front of her.
"No arguments here, " he agreed. For the moment his worry was forgotten and the only thing that mattered was Nerlyn. Yeah, she definitely knew what he needed. K'ron nodded, following instructions. "Better?" He laughed, pulling her down against him.
For a second Nerlyn thought she was going to hurt him as she had tried to take her own underwear off as he pulled her down. “Much…” she whispered, biting her lip as she just stared at him, undoing her chest band to leave nothing between them. It was not often that she took full control but she found that she did enjoy it when the mood took her.
K'ron certainly didn't mind her taking control. It was normally a give-and-take for them but right now he was enjoying her leading. He reached up and ran a hand through her hair. "Good. Cause I certainly wasn't planning on letting you go."
As threats went, that was not one she was ever going to let him change. The dolphineer reached between them and shifted herself onto him slowly, savouring the moment as she kept eye contact with him. They could talk later right now was for action.
