Location: River Cove Weyr
Timeline: M1 D22
Nerlyn had spent the rest day lying on the sofa yawning away with Rean cuddled up with her for a lot of it before Lyna had taken him off to spend some time with. It had left her with time to think about the baby and how she had seduced K’ron to avoid talking about it more. It was not like her to avoid the subject by doing something like that so she could not explain it but there she was. She heard the familiar sound of a dragon landing on the ledge and slowly sat up so she was not quite as vulnerable lying there.
Tyreth landed gently on the ledge, lowering himself to let his rider off. The bronze yawned as he waited for his rider. K'ron slid down Tyreth's shoulder with a yawn. It had been a good practice but now he was exhausted. He walked into the weyr, shrugging out of his jacket as he went.
The woman offered a small smile as she moved over to help him and took the jacket, hanging it up on its usual hook before she greeted him. “Hey, you wine or juice?” She offered, thinking he looked more exhausted than normal after a drill.
K'ron gave her a smile as she got his jacket. Somehow she always managed to get it off quicker. "Wine would be wonderful. I am going to change real quick," he said, kissing her cheek as he passed.
The woman said nothing as he passed her and disappeared off to change. It gave her a few more minutes of silence and contemplation as she set about getting him some wine and herself some fruit juice. She glanced out at the dragon as he shifted around until he was comfortable and with a snort closed his eyes.
The bronze rider didn't take long as he pulled on clean pants and a loose-fitting shirt since he was done with drills for the day. He had to cover a yawn though as he walked back out. "Much better. "
He might have tried to hide it but after knowing the man her whole life she knew him at points better than he knew himself. She held out the wine and smiled. “Tough day? You both look like you could sleep for days.” She knew that threadfull was two days away but she hoped that would be enough time for him to rest up.
K'ron took the offered wine with a grateful smile. He nodded. "A bit. We've been working harder and a bit longer to prepare. A few of the newer riders are still getting used to the wing," he answered, taking a sip of wine. Things definitely felt hard right now.
“What happens just before a queen flight and clutch,” Nerlyn said softly. She remembered the rush to free up Weyrling space for the next lot. “And when home life is complicated.” She added wanting to put that out there.
K'ron groaned. Okay, she had a point. Every queen flight and clutch led to this but the home life added extra stress. "How are you feeling?" He asked.
The woman braced herself for that question with a nod. “Nikolai cleared me for duties despite a bit of sickness so I am all set to head off tomorrow” She revealed that she had been to the healer to prepare for her sea duties.
K'ron was caught off guard for a minute by her response. She had gone to the healers without him? "Um, that's good," he answered, trying to figure out why she wouldn't have told him she was going.
“I had my ship duty medical like I do every time and I had to declare it,” Nerlyn explained quietly seeing the confusion on his face. She had not set out to not include him but the healer trip had been part of her dolphineer duties.
He nodded mutely. That made sense if he thought about it. It just still hurt a bit to not be there. K'ron took a sip of wine while he let it sink in. At least she was okay.
Nerlyn frowned. “Do not look at me like that. I am not pushing you out or anything… I was just there and had to tell someone.” Nerlyn said keeping her peace at the other end of the room. She was not a fan of him looking at her like that.
"Okay okay. I get it," he answered, feeling run down now. "I am glad you are okay. I just wanted to be there with you. I get why you had to say something. I really do."
“I am not there for your medicals.” She pointed out softly feeling herself getting annoyed when she knew he was reacting due to being tired himself. She bite down her annoyance and smiled. “Do not be mad when I am away for a sevenday.” She begged quickly.
He ran a hand through his dark hair, knowing his mate was right. He was overreacting and shouldn't be. K'ron blew out a soft breath. "You are correct. " he was surprised by her words. "A sevenday?" He repeated, not mad just surprised.
“Yeah, northern passage ship duty.” Had she not mentioned that to him or had she assumed that he knew? “I thought I had mentioned. I arranged it so I will not be here for the flight?”
He silently groaned. "I do remember you saying you were going to do that," K'ron agreed. "Just didn't think about how long you would be gone. But it sounds like you are cleared and I know you'll be careful." He'd miss her terribly but he understood her reasoning.
“Course I will.” She would be more than careful but she knew that did not matter much to him when he was worrying about her and the baby. “I just cannot be here.” She knew the likelihood of him winning Jena’s flight was high and she just could not be around for that.
A slight smile tugged up the corner of his lips. He knew she would be and he couldn't blame her for leaving. "I understand," he assured her.
Nerlyn sighed and rubbed at her eyes and frowned. She could not leave with them close to an argument. “Do you?” She slowly moved to sit next to him and touched his leg. She knew it was an odd choice for sure but she was trying to own her faults and issues in a sensible way and handing her emotions
The bronze rider set his mug of wine down and let his hands hang between his knees. He needed sleep but he didn't want to be angry with Nerly either. He slowly nodded and looked over at her. "I understand a little bit. I know flights aren't good or fair to you anymore. "
“I just do not want to slip back on the work I have been putting into my health for the last two turns. Flights are one of my triggers when I know the likelihood of you winning,” It was a bitter medicine to take but she was putting herself first for once and thinking of herself.
He turned to see his mate better. He knew flights were hard on her and he hated it. And he couldn't deny Tyreth the chance at a gold flight. "I agree. I would rather you are healthy and happy."
“So I need to go.” She said simply. He looked away and rubbed her eyes again taking in how tired he looked. “Get some sleep Kiron.” She decided pushing him away a little would do him some good. “I’ll wake you before dinner and Lyna returns Rean.”
"Of course you do. I would never stand in your way." He knew she deserved to leave. To be away from that pain if she could. He hesitated before slowly nodding. "You're right." He was exhausted. "I hope we can talk more though when I'm more awake."
Nerlyn nodded. Neither was in the right frame to talk there and then so parting company for a few candlemarks was for the best. “We can.” She assured quietly offering a sad smile to him as she watched him for a moment.
They could always talk later, it was them to a t.
