V’ros stretched out a little over the hard wooden chair and frowned as K’ron came into the records room alone. “The Weyrwoman kicked you out of the dinner with High Reaches Weyrleader hmm?” He wondered pushing out the opposite chair for the man. He knew K’ron was there to make sure Lana stayed out of trouble. He almost wished that they had Calarya or someone to make it all less awkward.
K'ron hated this. He was supposed to watch over Lana yet she wouldn't let him. What good was he really doing here? He collapsed into the chair V'ros pushed out for him. “What gave you that idea?” He groaned. “And yes, she did.”
“The frown on your face. She’ll be fine with the Weyrleader. The man looks too down to try anything.” V’ros soothed a little. “Plus I do not believe our Weyrwoman would swap anything for this Weyr and she’s too honourable to upsur the Weyrwoman already here.”
K'ron looked up at the other bronze rider. “You're probably right. It just seems wherryheaded for me to be here if she's not gonna let me do my job. Guess I get to read more hides,” he groaned.
“You could go to bed. You look like you’ve been up all night.” V’ros commented as he turned his attention to the hides in front of him as he looked at some weyrling records hoping they it might be something that was taught it weyrlinghood.
He shook his head. It was true. He had been up all night. His departure from Nerlyn had been bad. “Can't sleep right now,” K'ron admitted, grabbing one of the hides.
“Can tell.” V’ros commented looking up again catching his gaze. “I am going to give it a couple of candlemarks wait for Lana to return and then go to bed so I can stay up if you want to take a drop of fellis to help.” He added looking up.
K'ron sighed softly. He did need sleep. “I might have to take you up on that,” he said, looking over at the other man. He wasn't good friends with V'ros but he knew Lana would be safe with him.
“You look like you’ve been fighting thread and we both know you haven’t. I think it might have been something much smaller and blonder.” He said having some empathy for the man. He knew how Nerlyn could get but he also knew that something had happened with their son in the last 24 candlemarks that might have caused more trouble.
“Thanks,” K'ron laughed tiredly. Yeah he felt like that too. It hadn't been a good couple of days. “Yeah maybe,” he agreed. “She scares me more then Thread.”
“Not she doesn’t. The thought of losing her scares you more than thread.” V’ros commented softly as he rose to feet and got the man some klah putting it down in front of him before sitting back across from him.
K'ron closed his eyes. “Okay, yes. That does scare me. I don't want to lose her.” Which is exactly one of the reasons he couldn't sleep. That and finding out Raen could hear the dragons. “Thanks.”
V’ros smiled as they actually agreed on something for once. “You haven’t so far and you have both been through the worst thing that could ever happen with her losing Leaneth.” V’ros pointed out picking up another stack of hides to look through.
That was true. There were still times K'ron didn't know how they survived that. He sipped on his klah a bit, while thinking. It was going to come out anyhow since Kalaith spoke to all the dragons. “Raen can hear all the dragons,” he said quietly.
“I know. Neadeth told me he was no longer allowed to speak to the dragonless riders offspring.” V’ros revealed. “I did not know anything about it until then I swear. How mad did Nerlyn go?” V’ros wondered.
K'ron shook his head. Even Tyreth hadn't told him so he didn't hold it against anyone. “Oh probably about as angry as you can imagine. I was barely able to calm her down and of course I had to leave right after thatthat.”
“Typical timing.” V’ros said sadly. “She’ll be okay. We both know she bares her teeth and then calms down.” V’ros assured. He could imagine that Nerlyn even now regretting how hot she burned.
“Yeah couldn't have asked for better,” K'ron groaned. “And I didn't even have time to talk with Raen. He has to be scared.” This whole thing was a mess. He was happy for Raen but the boy was so young. “Yeah I'm sure she'll calm down.”
“Nerlyn will speak to him.” V’ros reassured quietly. “If you are worried send Koda with a note or ask Tyreth to speak to another rider you trust to do it. He has enough grandparents or aunts to help there.” It was not something he envied at all.
“True,” K'ron agreed. With his brother and Nerlyn’s family he was sure Raen would be fine. “It was just such a shock and then to have to leave. So much at once.” K'ron just wanted a semi normal life.
“Can’t say that River Cove is ever boring. But at least it’s all there and out in the open and when we get back it’ll all be there waiting.” V’ros offered hopeful for the man even if he looked like he wanted to go home.
“No it's never boring,” K'ron chuckled. He knew V'ros was trying. He just really wanted to go home. “True. That will be fun.”
The older man sighed softly and smiled at the fact K’ron looked a little happier. It was at least a start. “I sometimes wondered how Nerlyn kept timing things in all honesty.” V’ros finally said gently. “It would be handy to Know how she did it right now.”
K'ron sipped on the klah V'ros had passed him while looking at a hide. “I have no idea. The couple of times we talked about it it wasn't good.” He hated this timing thing.
V’ros nodded. He had always wondered when he had suspected what she was doing after some slip ups from the woman. “Shame.” He said simply.
“I still don't understand it,” K'ron admitted. And the two of them hadn't been together when she was doing that. They had just been friends.
“Which part?” V’ros asked surprised that the man was admitting lack of understanding to anyone especially to him of all people. There was nothing between him and Nerlyn and hadn’t in five turns if not longer but memories were long in his opinion.
“How no one stopped her. She could have killed herself.” He blew out a breath. It was a lot to think about. K'ron looked up at V'ros. “How many people knew?”
“I suspected but never confirmed but I can understand the anger but Nerlyn is her own person.” V’ros sighed. If he had ever confirmed he knew he would have tried it himself at that stage in his life. He had been reckless.
K'ron laughed tiredly. “That she is. Probably wouldn't have stopped anyhow if I know her.” He knew she wouldn't have if she thought it was helping.
“She stopped eventually because of you K’ron. You might not realise how much you healed her but you did.” V’ros pointed out softly. “The Weyrleaders should have never let her do it but it was desperate times they would have said.”
K’ron honestly didn't realize that. There was still a lot he was figuring out. “That's what Ner said too,” he sighed. “I am just glad she stopped.”
V’ros put his hides down and gave up for a minute just looking at the man and the way he looked defeated. “She would never have stopped if me and her continued K’ron. We were too toxic together.” V’ros coughed awkwardly. “You were the better man.”
K'ron stared at the other bronze rider. “Ah, thank you.” He wasn't quite sure what else to say to that. Nerlyn was a special person.
“So get some sleep.” V’ros advised grinning a little at the man just staring at him. “And we do not need to speak about this again.” He laughed to get rid of the tension. This was the first and last time they had ever spoken about the past.
K'ron groaned. “Okay I surrender,” he finally agreed. He was definitely going to have find some fellis though. He was tired, but he knew he'd never sleep. “Of course. Not again," he agreed to not speaking about the past again.
The man laughed a little and nodded relieved that the man was going to get some sleep as he really did look like he needed it. “Surrendering isn’t always a sign of weakness.” V’ros offered smiling.
“Thanks for that,” K'ron said, pushing to his feet. “Wake me if you need anything.” He was definitely exhausted and even standing was hard.
