After V'ros had returned with a very injured K'ron and no Weyrwoman Milayna realized she better find her mate before he went crazy. She knew how he felt about Lana even if he claimed he was happy with her.
“F'cone?” She asked, knocking on his office door first.
F’cone was pacing deep in conversation with Caladoth as the bronze tried to reassure the man that Kalaith knew what she was doing. The man stopped at the voice and walked over and opened the door. “Come in.” He said quietly. He was pale and looked worried.
Milayna cringed. She had seen that look before and it wasn't good. “What can I do?” She asked, stepping into his office and into his arms.
The man had not expected her to be there when the subject of Lana was out of bounds. He wrapped an arm around her and closed the door with the other. “Not much you can do.” He said softly. He was Weyr bound along with A’ren which was frustrating.
She rested her head against his chest. She knew he was worried about Lana but she wasn't going to bring that up. It could lead to an argument and they didn't need that. “Alright but I'm here,” Milayna whispered.
The man looked down and pressed a kiss into her hair. “I know you are. This isn’t about you, or me but the Weyr. Shards it’s about Nerlyn and K’ron more than me.” The man said never wanted to see people he had known for turns like that. He was used to death via fall but not from another riders knife.
Milayna nodded a bit. “How is Nerlyn?” She asked softly. She hadn't seen K'ron personally but she had heard talk. It wasn't good and Tyreth was still rumbling in worry.
“Sedated.” The man said darkly. Nerlyn was not his to keep an eye on but he felt a certain level of protectiveness towards her even after he had tried to cause trouble with her relationship with K’ron when he was at his most destructive.
“Probably for the best,” she agreed. She knew how she would be if it had been F'cone. Milayna frowned a bit. “F'cone,” she said gently. “None of this is your doing.”
“Possibly. I just don’t like the thought of my.. Nerlyn being sedated whilst carrying a child.” He said quietly as he looked at her. “I know but I should be able to go there and bring our sharding Weyrwoman back safely.” He muttered.
“The healers know what they're doing.” She frowned a bit. “F'cone?” She asked. There was something there he wasn't saying. “I am sure the Weyrwoman had her reasons.”
“Oh I am sure she had many but that does not mean they are correct.” He murmured. “Going to a Weyr without a senior of age pairing and now this.” Something was not right at all.
Milayna sighed softly. “She'll be okay.” She had had countless sedatives given to her when she was pregnant and Mian was okay. “But didn't other riders go there to be with her?” She asked, trying to remember.
“I’han, K’vin and Neilla but that was before Lana banned me and The Weyrleader and bound us to not leave the Weyr by our dragons.” He frowned revealing him and Caladoth were grounded.
Milayna chuckled softly, trying not to upset him. “She may have done that for your own good. I am pretty sure I know how both you and the Weyrleader would act if you were allowed to go there right now.” It would not be good.
F’cone knew she was right but it did not stop the bile and nausea threatening to come out or the fear he felt. He thought he had passed the protectiveness that he felt towards the Weyrwoman. “Still does not make it right.”
“I know, love,” she said gently. “But you can't change it. I know those three riders that went and she will be safe. Not to mention Kalaith won't let anything happen to her.” She knew he was worried.
The man was not placated much but he did nod. He hated how torn he was sometimes, he loved Lana as much as she infuriated him sometimes. And this was very much one of those times. “That is slightly what worries me that Kalaith and Lana will choose to stay there to control the situation.” He sighed wishing he could have spoken to A’ren more.
Milayna frowned a bit. “You don't really think she would stay there? This is her home.” Would Lana really choose to do that? She wasn't sure but F'cone seemed worried.
“She would do her duty to Pern. We have an of age queen rider .” F’cone stepped back and rubbed his eyes. He had been up far too long since V’ros had appeared with K’ron.
That was true but Milayna just couldn't picture Lana leaving River Cove. “Oh,” she said thoughtfully, seeing the exhaustion in his eyes. “You need rest or you won't be good for anyone.”
“I am okay. I just need an ale or something just as strong.” He murmured leaning back against his desk. “This is one of the many reasons we don’t let Queen Riders go off on adventures.” He sighed. It was no one’s fault other than the bronze rider at High Reaches.
“Then let's go get you one,” she said. Anything to calm his nerves would be good. Milayan raised a brow. “You don't let them? I am pretty sure you couldn't have stopped the Weyrwoman.”
“There are many reasons but yes not all Queen riders are as high spirited as Lana.” Lana was ferocious if you let her get going. He had learned the hard way and paid the price. “But cavern sounds good right now.” He sighed looking around for anything that was urgent.
Milayna nodded. She had only ever met Lana and Jena. Of course Jena didn't seem as high strung. “Then if nothing is pressing for you, let's go. The kids are down in the creche still.” Mian may have actually been with Terliyn.
”Nothing pressing.” He left the office with a soft sigh. He did not like feeling like this but it was the only thing he could feel there and then with not being able to go anywhere. Maybe A’ren would be there and they could work out a plan?
Milayna moved to twine her fingers through his. There wasn't much else she could do to help him.
