History
History | Cohan was born to two Harpers on the Southern Continent. For most of his childhood, he wanted to follow in his parents’ footsteps and become a harper. He certainly had the aptitude for it, but he also spent a lot of time just looking at the runners and stroking the herbeasts’ muzzles. (“They’re so SOFT!” he would exclaim every time.) He even started an apprenticeship at the Southern Harper Hall, but after only three months and an incident in which he quickly soothed a spooked mare, his father sat him down and together, they realized he would be better served in the Beastcraft. And so he made the change and has never regretted it. His love of music never went away, however, and he continues to sing to this day. Since he got a slightly late start to his craft, he did not make journeyman until he reached 17 turns, but he quickly made up for it with a lot of study and a keen instinct on animal behavior. For one very memorable turn, he was sent to Keroon to learn about the racing runners and had fun betting on the races. (Overall, he broke even on his bets.) It was during this time that he began developing a fair amount of muscle, owing to restraining the runners and lugging their feed all over the place. He spent some time at Fort learning some basic first aide for the animals he would eventually be tending. His favorite was learning how to tell when a herdbeast needed help giving birth and actually tugging on the calf until it finally fell out. Most people do not enjoy this as it is messy and smelly, but to Cohan, the joy of new life far outweighs the unpleasantness. Shortly after Fort, he returned to the southern continent to assist the herdbeast master at Kymos. He managed to attain his mastery at 28 turns- slightly early for sure, but his Masters felt there was nothing more he could learn. The Herdbeast Master and Kymos felt this was a good time to retire and leave Cohan in charge. There he remains to this day, as jolly as ever, brightening the faces of hold residents. |
