Bensen groaned in frustration as he dropped the pen on the table. He had thought the hide work would be simple but the numbers and names weren't matching. He glanced up though, realizing there was somewhere else more important he needed to be.

He left the hides where they were and headed for the crèche. Unfortunately he knew the hides would still be there. Right now though time with his family was much needed..

Rena was sure that Brenna would be exhausted after her day with the creche workers but she came out bouncing and carrying drawings that she had done in her satchel. She glanced around and looked disappointed. “No Bensen?” She wondered quietly.

“He is just running late. Lots of stuff going on in stables at the moment…”

“Ben!” Brenna yelled as she saw him coming down the corridor. She dropped her satchel and ran to him greeting him much like she had her mother moments before.

Bensen had jogged part of the way so he wasn't too late. He was sure it looked like a real sight but he didn't care. A smile touched his lips when Brenna called his name. “hey sweetheart,” he grinned, swinging her into his arms. “Sorry I'm a little late.”

He carried her over to where Rena was still standing. “Good afternoon,” he smiled.

“Hello again.” Rena grinned as he did not even break his stride whilst picking up Brenna and walking towards her. “We would have waited.” She assured quietly as she turned to lead the way.

“Mummy said you were running late cause you are busy.” Brenna assured snuggling close.

“And mommy was right, but this is the best part of my day and I wouldn't miss it,” he smiled. “Being with you and mommy is great.” He got in step with Rena. “I know you would have, but I wanted to be here on time.”

“Hide work get the better of you?” Rena wondered, smiling at the words he said and the way her daughter’s face lit up. She knew that Bensen was not just telling lies or half truths to Brenna he really met what he was saying.

“Yeah. Sharding numbers weren't coming together. Made me almost lose track of time.” He couldn't believe he has almost been late. “So what have you done today, Bre?”

She giggled at the way he whispered his frustrations before he spoke to Brenna louder asking about her day. The little girl went into a detailed timeline of her day until they were at the stables and she requested to climb down to look at things herself. “I wanna see,” she assured knowing she would need help to see much but she wanted to walk for a moment.

Bensen listened quietly, nodding along with her adventures for the day. “Alright, down you go,” he said, setting her back on her feet. He stepped back beside Rena, chuckling as he watched how excited Brenna was. He could definitely see Oseben in the girl.

Rena smiled at the man as she stopped to watch the little girl do her usual evening routine. “Hi Storm. Hi Storm’s baby.” She called going along the stalls saying hello to each and every runner even Thunder who stuck his head over his stall to look at the girl before he disappeared again.

Bensen laughed a bit. All the runners seemed happy to see the little girl. Even Thunder behaved. Maybe there was hope for the stallion yet. “She reminds me of Ose,” he admitted softly to Rena.

Rena’s face melted from a smile to a look of sadness and reflection as she nodded. “Me too. Oseben certainly had an influence on her enough in her 3 turns to sometimes make her a mini him.” It was not a painful reminder but it was a sad reminder of the potential. “But she loves the Runners. Certainly will be a beastcrafter like you all.” She teased him a little. Maybe this baby would be more harper inclined.

Bensen slipped his arm around her shoulders and gave her a hug. “He did. And I don't doubt that. I definitely see a future beastcrafter,” he teased, looking over at her. He wanted to make her smile again.

The woman smiled a little less sad as he hugged her to him pulling her close. “Maybe one day one of my babies will follow me.” She said softly watching Brenna and not looking up at him.

He glanced over at her soft words. “I have no doubt,” he assured. “I would even bet the little one you are carrying will.” Of course he couldn't know that for sure but he had no doubt in his mind that this little one would take after Rena.her.

“Who knows.” The woman said quietly. She did not mind, who was she to stifle a child’s calling. “But as long as they are happy and healthy that is all I care really. It is just nice to see Bre thriving again.”

She had a point there. The health of the baby was certainly the most important thing. “She is. I was thinking if you don't mind maybe I'll let her help me with Hope.” He wasn't sure how Rena would feel about that.

Rena glanced up at him and then the little girl who was asking the journeymen and women who were closing up the stables for the night questions. “I do not mind. Someone needs to take an interest in her interests and I am not that person.” She said softy.

Bensen smiled as he watched Brenna quizzing everyone she could find. The runners watched her curiously as well. He nodded. “Thank you. Star is a sweetheart and Hope is still young so the two can learn together.”

“Go on. You are itching to start now. I can see it in your eyes.” She chuckled, moving away from him to allow him to start showing her things. He was trying so hard to be a positive role model for Brenna. It really showed how much of a good dad he could be given the chance properly.

He couldn't keep from smiling. “Are you sure?” he didn't want to just leave her. Not to mention she could learn too if she wanted to. But he did want to let Brenna help him with Hope. It would be great.

She shook her head at the conflict in his eyes. “I am sure Ben. Go be… go be her person.” Rena said softly, leaning up kissing him softly. She wanted him to know it was okay .

He nodded. “Thank you.” he was trying to do this right and be there for Brenna and Rena while honoring Oseben. “You are welcome to help,” he offered.

“After my experience with Thunder I do not feel ready but thank you. I’ll see you both later. Make sure you come back for dinner.” The woman assured quickly. She really did not feel like she had the energy to help with anything right then and there.

“Star and Hope are different. We'll get you back down here when you're not so tired,” he smiled. “And don't worry. We'll be there for dinner.”

“I am just not in the right frame of mind, " the woman stated softly. “I’ll see you in a little bit, Brenna.” She called to Brenna, who promptly looked confused but saw that her mother was leaving but her uncle was not. “Listen to Bensen, " she instructed.

Bensen nodded. He understood that completely. Had been there a few times himself. He watched Rena turn away before joining Brenna. “Looks like it's you and me.”

“Is mummy okay? And what do we do now?” She asked, concerned, despite how her mummy had instructed her to listen to Bensen.

“She's just fine, Bre, just tired. So while mommy rests how would you like to help me with Star and Hope?” They didn't have a lot of time before dinner but it would be enough..

The girl did not need to be told twice as she rushed to grab a broom that was her size to help. She loved nothing more than helping with the new runner and her mother. She wanted to spend more time with the animals afterall.
