Kelsa laughed as she worked alongside S'ven's family. They were really sweet. Vyiath had loved spending time with the children and now getting to enjoy the sun made the green even happier.
Kelsa stood back up with a stretch. It was nice to be doing something different with nice people.
“I thought you could do with some klah.” Sara said as she saw the woman coming back towards the cluster of buildings from helping with the nuts. “The children are back at classes and everyone else is back at crafts.” She explained. “S’ven has popped down to the ship to help with the sail.”
Kelsa smiled at the older woman. “I appreciate that,” she answered. “Oh I wondered where he had disappeared to. Vy really enjoyed the children,” she smiled, accepting the klah. She hadn’t realized how much she had needed thaf.
“I think his father wanted a moment with him.” Sara admitted as she took a sip of her own klah. “How long have you and S’ven been together?” She wondered quietly. She wanted to pet with her son but he was like he usually was silent or too helpful to avoid it.
“Oh,” Kelsa said. She hadn’t considered that. Surely he was fine. This was his family after all. Kelsa considered it for a moment. “It's been about two Turns,” she answered.
“He looks happy though.” Sara quickly assured the young woman. “I never thought I would see him bring anyone home but I do wonder if this is why he has slowly been coming home more,” she mused sitting on the stone bench outside her home.
“He's been coming home?” Kelsa asked. She knew he had been going out off and on but they hadn't really talked about where he had been. “I hope he's happy. I try.”
“Not often as we would like. Last time was harvest and a few sevendays before that. Normally it’s once a turn if we are lucky. He writes but …” Sara smiled fondly. “This is the first time he has not left as quickly as he appeared.”
Kelsa nodded a bit. She knew S'ven didn't come home much. He barely even mentioned it. “Really? Well I'm glad he stayed today. We had a rest day today and coming here is what he wanted to do.”
“I wonder why.” Sara wondered, sipping on her klah. The lad had always been too passionate, too deep like the ocean but Darth and being a rider had mellowed him down and made him more distant than she had ever know him.
The green rider lifted a shoulder. “I honestly don't know. He didn't say. He just said he had a surprise and this was it,” she answered, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.
“Maybe he is finally thawing.” Sara mused over klah. ”I have never understood him. Never as a child and more so as a rider. He is certainly his fathers son but we are always proud of him. We were there when he impressed.”
“Thawing?” Kelsa asked curiously. She nodded a bit. She could understand that. The first time he had had a panic attack around her she had nearly died. “He said you guys were. I wasn't at the Weyr yet but I know he appreciated you guys being there.”
“When he impressed, he closed himself off from us completely. Not sure what it was over but he has thawed more recently and that has to be down to you Kelsa so thank you.” The older woman said quickly as she spotted her husband and son coming up the sea path.
Kelsa gave the older woman a smile. “He is sweet. I think sometimes he is afraid of hurting someone so he just doesn't say anything.” She knew he had had trouble with being a blue rider but his family wouldn't understand that.
“Deep like they ocean.” Sara assured as she rose to her feet to go retrieve klah. S’ven offered a wave as Dareth flex over head having been with the pair.
“He got a bit soaked.” Soven laughed at S’ven.
“I dived to fix a new rope and Dareth came to rescue me and made the situation worse. I almost want to go back and grab a dolphineer but the only one I trust is pregnant and K’ron would skin me.” S’ven sighed shaking off some of the water.
The green rider had to agree there. That sounded just like S'ven. She looked over her shoulder as the two approached them. “Ooh yes don't make K'ron mad,” Kelsa giggled as he shook off the water. “Did you leave any water behind?”
“Enough for Dar to swim in.” The man said, taking off his shirt to squeeze out a little of the water. At least his flight trousers were a little more water proof.
Kelsa hid a laugh behind her hand. “I'm not so sure there. I think your shirt collected all the water,” she grinned, keeping her distance just in case he tried something.
“Dare you to come close and say that green rider.” He challenged back laughing as his father smiled at the interaction not having seen him so animated since he was a boy.
“Not a chance,” Kelsa laughed, backing up another step. “My green didn't dunk me so I am quite happy staying dry,” she grinned
“See why I have to put up with dad.” S’ven laughed as he was passed a towel to dry off a little.
“I believe she just knows you.” The man answered smiling more as he realised he was called dad instead of father.
Kelsa grinned cheekily. “Made that mistake a few times in the past. Not doing it again.” shd loved seeing S'ven smile. Especially after the Gather.
“Ah I see you are still up to your old tricks. S’ven was the youngest so used to use that against his siblings to dunk them after they were mean.” He said fondly as he watched S’ven dry off and toss the towel.
“Well now that explains a lot,” Kelsa laughed. She could definitely see S'ven doing that. “I will have to watch my back.”
“What I was picked on by them a lot.” S’ven grinned as Sarah came out holding out mugs of klah to the pair. “Thank you.” The man said smiling at the woman.
“I hope you are all ready for that bread and jams now.” She said hopeful as she knew she was.
“That's siblings for you,” Kelsa giggled thinking of her own siblings. Although hers weren't anything like S'ven's. “Ooh now that sounds wonderful,” she smiled, her mouth nearly watering at the thought of the bread.
“Good.” Sara smiled going back inside with Soven.
“Go on, I'm going to try and dry off a little more.” S’ven said smiling a little bit at the way his family were acting with Kelsa.
“I don't mind waiting,” Kelsa offered. She wasn't in a huge hurry after all. Even if the thought of fresh bread was making her stomach rumble.
“Go on. Save some for me.” He said smiling as he squeezed out his top again and saw the water coming out still. It was never going to dry and he could not go inside topless.
She bounced over and kissed his cheek quickly before he could catch her. “Don't be long. You know how much I love bread,” she grinned.
He smiled watching her go and shook his head as he started over to where Dareth and Vyaith were to grab his jacket to wear whilst his shirt dried. This had been the best choice he had made since he had gone to Kelsa and flung out that bronze rider he realised smiling happily to himself.
Why couldn’t everyday be like that?
