Nerlyn woke with a start as she opened her eyes and found K’ron watching her. She laughed sleepily as she snuggled back under the furs closing her eyes. “I now know where Raen gets the scaring me awake from.” She said, opening her eyes to look at the bronze rider. She loved her son but he had a nasty habit of just appearing by her side of the bed and scaring her with his mere presence. “Did you nap at any point?” She yawned a little.
K'ron tried not to laugh. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you or teach Raen how to,” The bronze rider smiled and nodded. “I did for a bit. It felt really good. Didn't realize I needed a nap so badly.”
“Course you didn’t sneaky males.” Nerlyn muttered, sounding a little more awake now as she blinked a few times and looked at him. “Good. How long have you been watching me?” She asked smiling as she cuddled on her side watching him.
The bronze rider smiled innocently. He really hadn't meant to scare her. “Only a few minutes,” he admitted. He had slept a whole lot longer then he had really meant to.
The blonde raised an eyebrow at the innocent smiled and rolled her eyes. “Good cause I was probs snoring and that’s not attractive.” She smiled a little at his innocent smile.
He laughed a bit. “It was a cute snore,” he assured her. He reached over to brush her hair out of her face. “How are you feeling after your nap?”
Nerlyn shook her head at him. “Better. But mostly because you fed us.” She smiled, closing her eyes at his touch on her face as he brushed her hair out of her face.
“Gotta keep you and the little one happy and healthy,” he answered. He would do anything for his family.
“I am trying, I swear.” She whispered, opening her eyes. She was trying to keep on top of at least her physical health; her mental health was harder to keep on top of right now, but she was trying. “Just a long day and early start.” She had forgotten over the last couple of months how unusual her work schedule could be at times.
“I know you are,” he answered. “And I know things have been a bit messed up lately,” he sighed. He hated it. They had been doing so well. And then the ruins sent them on a spiral he wasn't sure they had recovered from yet.
“I never thought all those turns ago things like me and you would be possible so I did all the brave and dimglow things. If I had any hint that things could be like this between us and we’d have Raen and this other one on the way, I would…” She shrugged. She was not sure what she would have done but she might have changed a few choices along the way.
K'ron listened quietly. “I get it. We all have done things that we would change, but each decision has brought us here. I would never give up this life with you and Raen and our little one. Are there things I wish I had done differently? Yes, but right now I am right where I want to be.”
Nerlyn sighed softly and nodded. She did not want to be anywhere rather than being there with him. “I would not change this either.” She agreed so there was no doubt.
He smiled. They both had certainly been through a lot but at least for the moment they were happy. “think we might be on the right path for once.”
“I am trying to stay on the path.” It was hard when stress made her mind wander searching for Leaneth.
He nodded. “Can I help at all?” He offered. “I know we got a bit thrown over the past few sevendays.” He knew him being stabbed hadn't helped her mentally at all.
It was a good question and one she did not know if she had an answer to right now. “This is helping.” She said shifting a little to snuggle against him until her side was against his stomach.
“I am glad,” he smiled, shifting to let her snuggle close. “Anything you need, don't be afraid to ask.” He wanted her happy and them to get things back on level.
“I have never needed anything other than reassurance and every once in a while grabbing back from the edge in more ways than one.” She said, closing her eyes for a moment to just listen to the familiar sounds on their weyr. She could hear the ocean in the distance, the familiar flushing of the water around the Weyr and all the individual voices that were background noise of her life.
Those grabbing from the edges had nearly given him a heart attack a few times. He would be happy if he didn't have to face those anytime soon. “And you know i’ll always be here to do that,” he assured her, Thread willing anyhow.
“I try to remember.” She assured quietly as opening her eyes to look up at his dark ones. “I see have missed you.” She realised aloud.
He knew she was trying. No one should have had to go through what she had, but she was still with them and that's what mattered. He smiled. “I've always been here.”
“No you haven't, you were up north and then I was at craft hall.” She said running a hand over his shoulder being careful to not knock him or anything. “This is the first time I have felt good since you announced you were going north.”
She did have a point there. Sharding going north. That had been a disaster. He shivered a little at her light touch on his injured shoulder. “that is true, but I am glad you are feeling good.”
“Sorry.” She whispered, letting her hand drop to the bed. “Maybe cause you stop the storm around me sometimes. Which sounds really pathetic so forget I said that I said something so codependent.” She rolled her eyes and looked away at the glow that was low above the bed.
“Sorry for what?” K'ron asked gently. He shook his head. “Little bird we're mates. we’re supposed to rely on each other,” he pointed out. He didn't see any reason she should be apologizing.
“Oh I apologised for hurting your shoulder.” She explained looking back surprised at him calling her little bird. She smiled sadly, that was a completely different woman in her opinion, someone who was able to fly and be free. “Just sounded a little pathetic.” She shrugged.
“You didn’t. Touching still feels strange as I don't have complete feeling there.” K'ron shook his head. “Not pathetic at all. It's how you feel. That could never be pathetic.” He did wish she would talk to him more like she just had.
“Oh well then..” She lifted her finger and resumed tracing the familiar lines of his chest. “You do stop the storm in my mind. Mostly likely why I ended up pregnant. I felt like me.” She said looking up at him.
He smiled at her touch. It felt good and very right to be able to just relax like this again. They had been through so much. K'ron chuckled softly and kissed her hair. “I want you to be happy again and be able to enjoy our lives together.”
“I am happy… or at least I am trying to be. I know you are safe now, I know that things can be okay again.” She knew happiness was doable with the life she had chosen at the Weyr and with him. ”I just need to find my place properly and I… need you to be happy too.”
He nodded. He could understand that. Or at least he was trying to. And it seemed like Tula was helping there. “I get it,” he said softly. “And I am happy. I’m with you and Raen and Ty. I am happy.”
“The. I will try and find my equilibrium again and try to get that I am not worthy of you out of my head.” She promised as she leaned up to kiss him lightly.
“You are definitely worthy. I love you and don't want to be anywhere else,” he promised, leaning into her light kiss. They still had a ways to go but they were getting there.
“I love you so much K’ron.” Nerlyn whispered against him lips. “You are mine.” She said firmly sounding like the woman for a moment who had to be put over his shoulder to be dragged away from bar fights.
“I am definitely yours,” he agreed. K'ron liked when she sounded firm and determined like that. It let him see that the old Nerlyn was still there if just buried.
“Good. Glad to see we agree.” She smiled and lay her head back just looking up at him trying to work out where to go or what to say for a moment so just settled for watching him.
K'ron happily stayed snuggled against her. They didn't get a chance to do this very often and it was a nice treat.
