Goldrider exhaustion, Gold dragon anger

Zalyith curled around her eggs and hissed at anyone who came close which was annoying when it meant that Jena was struggling to count just how many eggs she had laid. There was no gold thankfully with Micayith’s arrival; they did not need another weyrling of that rank right then and then.

“Will you stop it? No one is going to steal you eggs.” Jen snapped for the fifth time in as many minutes as Zalyith flicked her tongue out again above her eggs.

K'vin quietly slipped down to the hatching Sands but kept his distance so he didn't anger Zalyith. Thankfully his bronze was content sleeping on their ledge and Tyreth hadn't been willing to challenge the gold yet to see the clutch he had sired.

“How is she?” K'vin asked softly.

Zalyith turned as the soft voice and hissed but Jena stepped across and stood in front of K’vin before the gold could move. “It’s K’vin. We like him and he certainly won’t steal the eggs. Just steals my heart.” The queen issued a soft bellow before she curled around her eggs. “Feisty and protective. Can’t quite tell if she has finished laying or not.” She sighed.

“I definitely will not steal your beautiful eggs,” he promised the gold before smiling down at his mate. “now that I will happily steal,” he whispered, giving her a kiss. He smiled as it was obvious the gold wasn't letting anyone near. “I see that. Now I know why Tyreth is up on his ledge instead of checking on the clutch.”

}: He better not :{ Zalyith stated simply as she closed her eyes a little feeling exhausted.

Jena smiled up into the kiss and nodded.“Come on.” Jena offered stepping up to where the seats were and sat on the first tier heavily. “Shards no… no one is coming anywhere near for a while.” She could not remember her queen being like that last clutch.

K'vin followed Jena into the stands, where she could still watch Zalyith but the gold could hopefully relax too. “I can see why. From what I can see though, it looks like a nice clutch.”

Jena let out a yawn but nodded. “I lost count at about 30,” Jena admitted crossing her legs and leaned forward with her hands on her knees. “But no gold, thankfully still trying to find my feel with our weyrling queen.”

“That is a good number.” He knew the dragons had had a good flight and the clutch showed it. He reached out to rub her back. “How is the new queen weyrling doing?”

Jena leaned a little against him and offered a sleepy smile. “She has a lot to catch up on, but I am sure she will get there eventually, like we all did. Just a big shock for her, I think, she is so young in a position for women who are a lot older. We will need to keep an eye on her.”

He slipped his arm around her shoulders, letting her snuggle against him. She seemed exhausted. “I can't even imagine. If I can help at all all you have to do is ask,” he offered. He wasn't a gold rider but he knew what responsibilities were.

“I know this is why you are the love of my life.” She said quietly, not even realising what she was saying as she spoke. “I am sure she would appreciate that, to be honest, K’vin.” She admitted. It would help to show her that some other bronze riders would not look at her like a piece of meat.

K'vin was surprised by Jena’s words but then smiled before kissing her hair. “And you are best thing that has ever happened to me.” He watched the gold dragon with her clutch as he listened to Jena. “Of course. Anytime,” he assured her.

“Oh no, I am not, but sweet of you to say that…” She said gently as she watched Zalyith roll another egg into a good position. It was looking closer to 40 now, but she was not able to count, and Lana and Laliy had left her for now.

K'vin just smiled. Nothing was going to change his opinion but right now he would just enjoy the quiet time with his mate. “That is quite a clutch,” he commented as Zalyith rolled another egg into place.

The woman nodded. Zalyith was calming down and not being quite as aggressive now, which was nice. Maybe she was done finally, but who knew? “It is. I am proud of her.” She sai,d knowing that Zalyith needed all her love right then and there.

“As you should be,” K'vin smiled. He was proud of both of them. New dragons were always welcome at the Weyr. “And you make sure to concentrate on your queen. Don't worry about anything else.”

“I do not think I have the energy to worry about anyone or anything else.” She admitted with a sad smile as she remembering just getting to bed when her beautiful queen declared she was ready.

K'vin kissed her hair. “Just rest then. I'll watch Zalyith for you although it looks like she is ready to settle down too.”

“It’s okay. I have a few minutes before I will crawl into the temporary weyr behind Zalyith and get some proper sleep.” She explained gently. “I am happy right now just having a moment with you without any worries.” It would be night for a month to not have to worry about facing thread or much outside of her and Zalyith like they were weyrlings again.

He squeezed her shoulders a bit. He knew she would get some rest even if it was just for Zalyith. Clutches were exciting but he knew they were exhausting for the rider as well.

Jena smiled as the man squeezed her a little. He was always what she needed and more, she could not imagine anyone else being by her side. How had she gotten so lucky? Thank Faranath for the opportunity to have him.
