A'ren finished speaking with Calarya and his wing third before heading for the dining cavern. He had hoped to catch Lana for dinner but wasn't sure if he had his timing right. He grabbed something quick to eat before looking around for his mate.
“If you are looking for the Weyrwoman I saw her just coming back from her run with that new blue rider from High Reaches.” Tula said smiling. “She looked like she should not have gone for that run in this heat though.”
A'ren turned af Tula’s voice, smiling a bit. The Headwoman was certainly a staple at the Weyr that kept them all together. “Seriously? She was out running in this heat?” He shook his head. It really shouldn't have surprised him.
“You know what she is like. She most likely got halfway to the dolphin craft hall and regretted her choices but still continued out of stubbornness.” Tula teased holding out a pitcher of juice to him.
The Weyrleader laughed a bit. “You are probably right,” he agreed. He could see Lana doing just that. It definitely wouldn't surprise. “Thank you. How are things going with the new people here?” He asked.
“We are making do. I have a few more assistants now. K’yar’s girl is beeping helpful as is Mel’s new friend so things are moving and the expansions to the old areas are coming well. What about yourself? Do you need anything whilst I have you here?” Tula wondered, smiling fondly. She had always had an easy relationship worth whoever was Weyrleader but she was fond of A’ren.
He nodded. That sounded good. “Hopefully you guys haven't run into too much trouble with the old areas.” He knew there were a lot of things back there. “I don't think so. At least not right now. The wings are slowly getting into a smooth flow so we're good there.” A few were still having a little trouble but it was coming along.
“Not yet. The lower caverns haven’t given us any trouble as of yet. But time will tell. If I can help you only need to ask Weyrleader.” Tula assured putting emphasis on his title. She enjoyed the man being the Weyrleader and the Weyr enjoyed it as it offered stability but the dragons decided.
“That's good to hear.” He was glad for cleaning and expansion were going well. A'ren smiled. “Thank you. I will keep that in mind and let you know.” thankfully things were starting to go smoothly again after the encounter at High Reaches.
“I should get back to checking on the progress.” Tula nodded and disappeared off to return to her duties leaving the man alone with the jug of juice.
A'ren blinked as Tula disappeared as quickly as she had appeared. He had to laugh a bit though as he now held the jug of juice in his hands.
He finally laughed to himself and headed back out of the caverns to find his mate. He had a feeling she was probably in their weyr.
And indeed she was laying on the bed regretting her decision to run in the heat as she was too tired to move and possibly sunburnt. She turned at the sound of the Weyrleader coming back and offered a tired half wave from where to was lying in a towel after a bath.
A'ren shook his head. “Tula said you went for a run,” he smiled, stepping into their weyr. She looked exhausted. “Juice?”
“And she sent you with the juice I requested. Thank you.” The woman slowly sat up and winced, deciding lying down was better for a moment. She had been stubborn trying to stay fit and healthy but now she was hurting.
“What did you do to yourself?” He asked, pouring her a glass of juice before walking over to the bed. “You're red as a lobster,” he commented.
“I did not think it was that bad.” She admitted closing her eyes for a moment before summoning some courage to sit up and accept the juice. She downed the glass, sighing happily as it helped.
He shook his head a bit. “It has been unseasonably hot this sevenday. I'm glad to see you made it back to the weyr.” he couldn't imagine trying to run in this weather.
“Wouldn’t give you that stress.” Lana assured, looking at him, stood there before she winced. Why did he have to look so cool and composed after sweeps when she felt like a mess despite her bath.
He poured her more juice. “And I thank you for that,” he chuckled. He didn't need more stress than he already had. “Do you need anything?”
“Something for the sunburn if I am that bed.” She sighed softly as she drank a few more mouthfuls before putting the glass awkwardly onto the floor. “Why do you look so composed whilst I look like a … this.” She wondered smiling at the fact he was at the very least finding her state amusing.
“I can certainly try to find something for you,” he said. A'ren shook his head a bit. “I wasn't out running,” he smiled. Although drills had been hot, but he had been able to between a few times too.
“There should be some aloe in the chest in bathrooms chamber.” lana said slowly rising shakingly to her feet before she decided that would not be a good idea and promptly sat back down.
“Don’t move,” he told her firmly as he turned on a heel to head for the bathing chamber. It didn't take him long to find the aloe and return to Lana. “Are you okay?” He asked.
“Probably got a bit of sun stroke too.” She admitted with a roll of her eyes as she took the bottle and squeezed some of it onto her hands to try and sooth her hot face.
A'ren frowned. “That's not good at all,” he said. “What can I do to help?” He wanted to make sure she was okay and had everything she needed.
“I’ll be okay. Not the first time I’ve got sunstroke. We live in the south and I often forget that I am not invincible. You brought me juice, you brought me aloe and you’ve only marginally judged my lack of judgment in going out today.” Lana felt like he had gone above and beyond in helping her when she had not done that herself.
A'ren bit back a smile. She had certainly over done it. “Need some help with the aloe?” He offered, not sure she could reach her back. And he was sure this would happen again. The south was hot.
“Please.” She poured some out for her legs and smothered them in the gel, feeling the cooling sensation instantly help her. “My neck and where I’m pink back there please.” She requested husking her hair up into a high runner tail.
The bronze rider moved around behind her, picking up the bottle to squeeze some aloe into his hands. “I'll try to be gentle,” he promised, starting to carefully rub her neck and shoulders.
Lana hissed but said nothing as she deserved this for not thinking and just focusing on her fitness. “This serves me right for wanting to be healthy and not lazy like other Weyrwoman,” She grinned.
He cringed at her hiss. “I would never consider you lazy,” he assured her, kissing a spot in her neck that didn't look burnt. “But we'll get you feeling better.”
“Thanks. But I pride myself on my endurance. It’s harder for female riders. We don't always have that upper body strength so we have to find our strengths from elsewhere. Mine is I can outrun any of you.” Lana reminded the man before she smiled at the soft kiss. “I feel better already. Cooler and someone and something soothing me.”
A'ren laughed. “Yes you can,” he agreed. He had seen her run. She was fast, but he could see what she meant. Each rider was different. “well I think I can continue to help there,” he teased, kissing her gently again.
“You always do A’ren. You soothe every part of me when I let you.” She aid leaning back against his arm being careful not to cover him in the aloe gel.
He playfully nuzzled her neck away from her sunburn. “I do try,” he answered. There were times when she didn't let him help, but he was trying to learn not to push. she would come around in time.
“Don’t do that. I hurt myself in too many places to respond.” Lana giggled as he nuzzled her neck. “You more than try. You are sharding to perfect for me.”
“Sorry,” he laughed. “I'll behave now,” he promised, sitting back a bit. A'ren sat back a little. “And I couldn't imagine being without you.” That time they had been apart had been pure torture for him.
“Thank you.” Lana grinned as she watched him sit back. How had she gotten so lucky to have this type of relationship with the Weyrleader. “Truly how did I get so lucky to have you in my life?” She wondered sadly.
A'ren spread a bit more aloe on the burns that he had missed, wanting to make sure she was comfortable. “The dragons?” He teased. Which had certainly started it. “I could ask the same thing.”
Lana rolled her eyes. “Well they certainly threw you into my path but we had flirted and stuff before but … A’ren you had many women who would be more than willing to be your one and only.” She teased him back rolling onto her front to lie down again.
The Weyrleader chuckled a bit. That was true. Lana had caught his eye before the dragons were even involved in anything and he had liked her then. He wrinkled his nose. “True but I don't want anyone else. From the moment I met you there was just something about you that I liked and now love.”
“Dragon.” Lana teased him looking over at him. She rolled her eyes rubbing her eyes. They had flirted before she had ever become a rider when she had just been a healer patching them all up and delivery the babies with the women of the lower cavern.
He shook his head with a smile. “Not at all. It was really because you were a healer,” he teased her back. Over the Turns he had finally started to loosen up a bit and could tease Lana right back.
“Ah you wanted your own personal healer.” She laughed, shaking her head as she turned on her side clutching the towel to herself as she looked at him. “Made a pretty good healer today must have taught you enough to get by.”
“I did,” he grinned, reaching over to brush her hair out of her face. A'ren laughed a bit. “Sometimes I can learn. And you're a good teacher.” He had to hold himself back, running his fingers down her arm.
“You always learn.” She laughed seeing the glint in his eyes. “A’ren… behave.” She teased sitting up and crossing to the chest against the pulling out an old sleeveless dress chucking it on.
He laughed and sat on his hands. “Better?” He asked, his blue eyes dancing. A'ren couldn’t help but laugh more as she traded the towel for a dress.
Lana rolled her eyes. “I did not realise you were quite as uncontrollable.” She teased him as she sat on the opposite side of the bed to him. How had they gone from a turn ago yelling at each other and Lana acting like a child to them acting like this? It was mind blowing to Lana that they were so in love and Lana knowing that she wanted no one else.
He grinned mischievously. “Sometimes,” he teased. It was only ever with Lana. Since the first day they had met he knew he wanted to be with her. even after all these Turns and the yelling llast Turn he wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Lana shook her head not having seen this side of him until this turn. “I quite like this side of you.” She admitted.
“It's only taken me a few Turns to realize that,” he admitted. He knew he had been a stuffy bronze rider for a while but he was trying and between Lana and Calarya he was learning.
Lana laughed before she shook her head at how she used to push his patience with her antics. “You do not need to be afraid with me A’ren,” she said simply.
He nodded. He was learning that and hoped to keep learning. “I think I like being more easy going,” he admitted.
Lana smiled as he gently climbed across the bed until she could sit in his lap facing him now her skin felt a little less burned. “I love you and all varieties of you but this version. The one who smiles and teases me back is my favourite.”
“Now how am I supposed to behave with you doing that?” He chuckled, not minding at all. He was enjoying this time together. A'ren reached out to brush her hair behind her ear. “And I will try to remember that and keep this version.”
“Oh I am feeling less tender now.” She assured kissing his nose. “You be you Weyrleader but this one who I know I am not going to scare off or will give me as good as I throw at him is the man that captured me and is my favourite part of you. It’s the part that only I get to see.”
“I can see that,” he chuckled, wrinkling his nose a bit before grinning. A'ren nodded, looking into her eyes. “And it will stay that way,” he assured. He still had to be the Weyrleader and help keep order in the Weyr but that didn't mean he couldn't be teasing and loving with Lana.
