K'yar stood next to Lenya as they waited for Leisa to get there. They had both decided it was safer to leave Kiyna at the creche for the time being just in case.
“Who did your brother say he was bringing this time?” The brown rider asked his dainty mate.
Lenya had been deep in thought as they stood on the heights of Far Site, as they waited for her brother. This had not happened in a long time, but Leisa had stated firmly that it needed to happen as soon as possible. “Jemmada. Emalee and Cassine’s sister. I saw her at the gather.” Lenya said quietly. She had not known the older woman at Dragon Hold.
The brown rider nodded. He knew the name but didn't really know her. He did wonder why this had to be done so quickly. Leisa hadn't really said much. “Wonder what is going on.”
“No idea. Best not to ask.” The woman responded as she saw her brother approaching with a much skinnier version of Emalee with darker hair. The woman was skinny, whilst Emalee was curvy, and it suited them both, but it was unusual to see when Lenya liked Emalee so much.
K'yar nodded. That was probably true. The less they knew the better. He watched as Leisa made his way toward them.
“Sorry we're late,” Leisa apologized, stepping up to his sister.
“It was my fault. It is nice to see you again, Lenya. I did not realise when we met at the gather you were Leisa’s sister.” She admitted blushing at how silly that seemed now but she had been beaten up and a bit overwhelmed.
“That is okay.” Lenya smiled before raising an eyebrow at her brother.
Leisa blew out a breath. This was a bit awkward. “Thank you for coming,” he said.
K'yar nodded. “Of course. You made it sound urgent.” There was no way they could have ignored that.
“Always.” Lenya assured quickly.
“It is…. Well it is to him.” The woman spoke up. “He wants me gone.” Jemmada said, throwing him under the dragon in her last parting shot.
Leisa narrowed his eyes at Jemmada for that comment. “Yes, I won't deny that. Hold life is not good for you.”
K'yar frowned a bit before glancing at Lenya. Oh this would be fun. “However we can help.”
“Too constructive.” Jemmada agreed. “No idea how you do it to be honest.” If anyone could straighten out Jemmeda it was going to be Tula. Tula had a way with young women into shaping them whether they wanted it or not.
“Tula said she will take you on as a drudge like you were here.” Lenya explained, smiling at the look on her brother's face. He was barely containing his annoyance at the situation.
Leisa knew his sister would handle things and it sounded like she had already gotten things in order. He nodded his head to her in a silent Thank you.
K'yar listened quietly. “So if you are sure this is what you want we can get you back to River Cove.”
“I am sure.” The younger woman assured with a smirk in K’yar’s direction. She was hoping that all the riders looked like him, Leisa had warned him off this one but it did not mean she could not flirt a little.
Leisa glared at Jemmada before turning to his sister. “Let me know if you need anything.”
K'yar nodded. “Then all we need to do is get your bags strapped on Kylith.” It wasn't far to the Weyr so Kylith would be okay with three.
Jemmada only had one bag filled with clothes and toiletries. She didn’t own much and she owned less than she cared about. She indicated the bag as Lenya pulled Leisa to one side. “Are you okay?” She wondered how they acted towards each other.
K'yar nodded and led the way to where Kylith waited for them.
Leisa hadn't meant to worry his sister. “Yeah. It's just been a bit tense at home. Em really didn't want Jemmada leaving but Hold life was really not settling with Jemm so when she asked for help I agreed.”
“How upset is Emalee with you?” Lenya said, smiling kindly as she watched K’yar take the bag to Kylith. Emalee was not the type to be cross long but it did not happen often between the pair. They were usual far more in sync that most couples she knew.
Leisa blew out a breath. “Oh I may be on the couch for a couple nights,” he answered. He knew Emalee would come around once she realized it was all for the better and Jemmada was happy.
“Not sure you will fit on your sofa, brother but really is Jemmada that bad?” She wondered glancing to where the woman was waiting in silence.
He laughed a bit. That was probably true. The floor would be better. Leisa sighed softly. “She is a troublemaker but not mean. I think hold life is too boring for her.”
“Hold life doesn’t suit many after what we all went through. You and Emalee found something together and thrived. Maybe given time, she will.” Lenya squeezed his arm. “Give my love to Em.” She said hoping he was not going to be sleeping on the couch for long.
Leisa nodded. It was true. After Dragon Hold being in a normal Hold was hard. “And I am grateful to Em everyday.” She helped keep him grounded. “I will and thank you. Please let me know if you need anything and hug Kiyna for me.”
“I will. Just let me know you are sleeping on the couch, hmm.” She grinned at him and turned away to K’yar. “We all good to get back?” She wondered.
“Sure.” Jemmada waved to Leisa.
Leisa rolled his eyes. “You're getting too much enjoyment out of that possibility,” he laughed, hugging her before she moved back to K'yar. Leisa returned Jemmada's wave.
K'yar nodded. “Think we're ready.”
Lenya smiled as K’yar grabbed her up and then between the pair they got Jemmada settled behind them. “We are ready.” Lenya promised softly as Jemm wrapped her arms around Lenya waiting for the jolting movement she was sure was going to happen when the brown leapt.
K'yar made sure his passengers were settled before giving Kylith the go ahead. The brown pushed to his feet, being careful not to upset them before pushing off with his hind legs to jump into the air.
Jemm closed her eyes as they jumped. She had never been on a dragon other than the blue that had brought them from Kymos to Far Site and that had been minutes as the weyrling pair were so busy. She knew between was coming but she was not at all prepared for what the Weyr was like as they came out of between.
“It’s different isn’t it?” Lenya called feeling the woman behind her stiffen in confusion of being overwhelmed.
Kylith tried to be as gentle on his riders as he could as K'yar had made sure the brown knew Jemmada didn't know much about dragon riding. “Everyone still okay?” He called over his shoulder as Kylith glided down toward the Bowl.
“I think so.” Lenya let go of K’yar and wrapped her arms around the arms that was clinging to her. Jemm looked shocked at someone offering her compassion and kindness especially when it was Leisa.
“Yeah. I am okay.” Jemm assured quickly louder so the rider could hear.
K'yar smiled at the pair as Kylith lay down to make it easier for everyone to dismount. “Good. Wouldn't want to scare you off from dragons the first trip,” he grinned, reaching back to squeeze Lenya's hand.
Lenya smiled as she reached back blindly to grip her hand. She let go of Jenn’s arms and squeezed him reassuringly.
“This is a lot.” Jemm said as they all climbed off the brown and Jemm whirled around looking all over.
The brown rider chuckled a bit. “You get used to it,” he promised. He and V'lik had after the mines. The Weyr had truly saved the brothers.
Jemmeda nodded. She could imagine that eventually she would get used to it but right then and there it was amazing. It was nothing like Dragon hold told them it would be like at. “I do not believe I ever want to.” Jemm said gently.
“You get used to it but I have never lost that excitement of seeing a wing of dragons.” Lenya said grinning at K’yar.
K'yar smiled at his mate as he reached up to untie Jemmada's bag so his brown could go sun himself for a bit. “I have to agree. There is something about seeing the dragons that will alway leave you breathless.”
“Thank you Kylith.” Lenya said making sure that she was out of the way as the brown disappeared off to sun himself.
“Thank you brown rider.” Jemm said as Lenya looped her arm through the woman’s.
Kylith bowed his head to Lenya and nuzzled her gently before she moved away so he could push off again.
K'yar nodded. “Of course. I hope we were gentle enough for you.”
“You were.” Jemmada assured taking a deep breath. “You are going to show me the head woman hmm?” The woman wanted to get started and move forward to new things.
“I will.” Lenya assured. “I will see you later.” She said quietly to the man.
K'yar kissed Lenya's hair. “I'll see you back at the weyr. I'll get Kiy on the way.”
Lenya just smiled and nodded. “Don’t get any ideas over that one.” Lenya warned as she saw Jemm staring after K’yar.
“No. I just… he was polite just like another rider I met. I.. we were not raised to believe riders were like that.” Jemm said apologetically as Lenya led her down to the lower caverns.
“Well they are so get use to it.” Lenya laughed a little. Hoping that this really was going to be the best choice for her.
