Mission: 3531 AL
Location: RCW
Timeline: M3 D18

Lana ignored the banging on the door for a moment as she lay in bed listening to A’ren’s heartbeat under her cheek as he dozed after they had spent the afternoon in bed together. She sighed as she heard the banging on the door again and slowly moved. Whoever it was, was not getting the hint that they were busy. Lana scooted to the end of the bed and grabbed up the Weyrleaders top and quickly went to answer the door. She did not care if she looked like she had just gotten up, she had and it was healthy to remind the Weyr that her and the Weyrleader were happy together. She blinked as she realised it was getting late in the day as the shadows across the weyr were longer than they had been a few candlemarks ago. She flung the door open and looked in confusion at K’ron.

“What is going on wingleader?” She wondered.

K'ron felt stupid for doing this and being so paranoid but he didn't need Nerlyn getting any more upset then she already was before this trip. His face colored slightly though when he realized he had caught Lana either sleeping or something else.

“I'm sorry Weyrwoman, but do you have a moment?”

“No time like the present I guess.” Lana blinked a few times taking in his paleness and abruptness before stepping back to indicate he could come in. As he came in and closed the door she set about turning over a couple of glow baskets. ”What is so grave you came rushing over and banged on the door several times before I answered.”

The bronze rider blew out a soft breath. He hadn't meant to act so crazy. “Raen can talk to the dragons,” he blurted out, not sure how else to say it. It was the truth. “And Nerlyn is flipping out.”

Lana blinked a couple of times as she listened to the man seeing the wildness around him. “Okay let's start with sitting down whilst I wake the Weyrleader and put on some more clothes. K’ron get some wine too, you look like you could use it.” She indicated the sofa area as she disappeared into the bed chamber. “Weyrleader you need to wake up.” She whispered pressing a kiss to his shoulder to wake him up urgently but gently as she pulled on some shorts under his shirt..

K'ron nodded mutely, moving towards the room. He hadn't felt like this in a long time. First he was leaving and now this. He absently poured some wine in 3 glasses while he waited.

A'ren blinked awake. “What's wrong?” He yawned, sitting up to search for his pants.

“K’ron has just turned up in a state.” She whispered so the bronze rider out in the living area could not hear how she described him. “Hurry up.” She advised watching with a little amusement as he searched for his shirt as she stepped back out wearing it still.

The Weyrleader finally gave up on the shirt hunt, still not realizing Lana was wearing it. He quietly followed his mate though. Something definitely wasn't right with K'ron.

Lana sat down and looked at the man. “You said your son has revealed that he can talk and listen to all the dragons?” Lana started catching A’ren up on some of the problem. A'ren blinked, not sure he had heard that right. Raen could hear dragons?

K'ron slowly nodded, still looking pale. “I knew he talked with Ty sometimes but today he revealed he can hear and talk to the others too,” he admitted, twisting the glass in his hands.

“But lots of ad…” Lana started before she realised what the issue was. Yes lots of adults discovered they could hear the dragons when they came to the Weyr but for a little child it was unusual especially a Weyr born child. “Adults hear but not children.” She caught herself up and sighed softly. She looked at the wine that was there for her but did not pick it up glancing to A’ren.

“That's the part that has Nerlyn nearly losing it,” K'ron admitted. “Right now Raen seems okay with it. They have told him things that we haven't though.”

A'ren shook his head. “I can understand your concern. I have never actually heard of a child having that ability.”

“It normally develops when they are older but it is not unheard of.” Lana assured. She leaned over to grab up a glass holding it out to the Weyrleader who was standing there topless. ”What have the dragons told him?” Lana asked as she felt Kalaith perking up at the questioning.

A'ren accepted the glass as he waited for K'ron to answer.

“Apparently they call Nerlyn the dragonless rider and he figured out that's why Nerlyn won't stay in the Weyr while I go north with you.” K'ron hated this. It was all such a mess.

}: We do call her the dragonless rider. :{ Kalaith confirmed as her snout appeared in the doorway to the living area. Lana rose to scratch her hide.

“You know how dragons talk. They are big gossips.” Lana said softly, feeling a little guilty that she was making the man come with her. He was the only one that she trusted. “She won’t stay here? Where is she going?”

K'ron nodded. “I do and Ty said he's made sure they don't talk to Raen all the time unless he asks questions. Nerlyn is afraid he'll be overwhelmed by the voices.” He shook his head. “She refuses. already has Raen packing some toys. She plans to stay at the dolphin hall,” he answered.

A'ren frowned a bit. This was a lot to take in. The poor man had to be going crazy.

“Nerlyn had had every right to worry about that but… Kalaith can order every dragon - none of them are to talk to Raen.” Lana stated firmly, the bronze might have some power but he was not a queen dragon. She did not often use the tone but the queen dragon snorted, moving her snout back inside leaving the three Riders alone with their thoughts for a moment as waited to relay her order to the Weyr.

“I know, but I don't want to discourage Raen either and make him think he did something wrong. I do hope Kaliath will still grace him with words from time to time and that Ty is still allowed. I understand Nerlyn’s worry but I also fear Raen will not. He will think he caused it.”

A'ren didn't like this one bit. “Think we can come to a compromise, Lana? Something that still lets the boy feel like he's part of the dragons' world.”

Lana glanced to her left, leaving her and Kalaith going back and forth on the subject. The Queen could somewhat understand the worry, but she knew her partner was feeling it more. “Kalaith and I agree that the dragons can talk if their rider agrees and the boy speaks first or if there is an emergency. Is that agreeable to you both?”

K'ron nodded slowly. “I think Nerlyn would be agreeable to that and I agree. I don't want to discourage Raen so hopefully that won't and when he is older we can talk again.”

A'ren smiled at his mate. “Good idea, love.”

Lana grew quiet as she and Kalaith spoke more. The Queen passed the message on to all dragons which created a lot of chatter outside in the bowl which was evident by the noise. “It is done.” Lana said if it was evident enough.

K'ron breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you so much, Weyrwoman. I do hope that will settle Nerlyn down.” At least that was one less worry.

“So how can we help settle Nerlyn down more? You said Nerlyn is flipping out?” Lana said gently, finally reaching for the glass of wine taking a huge gulp.

The bronze rider shook his head a bit. “I don't know. I think until we can clear up this timing thing and the ruins she's gonna be on edge. Learning about Raen was just another thing to add to her stress.” K'ron really wasn't sure what to do at the moment.

“If you need anything just let us know,” A'ren offered. “We both know this has been hard on the two of you.”

“If we can help even if it is calling in favours for a midwife or mind healer I will do it K’ron.” Lana said quietly. She was choosing her words lightly. She knew Nerlyn was healthy but looks could be deceptive especially where relationships we’re concerned. She glanced at A'ren hoping he understood. The fighting wings were his but the people inside were hers.

A'ren nodded in agreement. He trusted her with things like that. K'ron seemed to relax at Lana's words. “Thank you both. That makes things much easier.” He didn't want to think about things that could happen.

“I will see you at dawn alright. Dress warm.” Lana said softly hoping the man was feeling slightly calmer now. It must be so hard for him trying to fix things before he left. She would write to Master Jameas and Tula before she left to keep an eye on Nerlyn.

“Dawn it is. Thank you Weyrleaders,” K'ron said, turning to head back to Nerlyn and Raen. At least one thing was taken care of.

A'ren watched him leave before turning to Lana. “That was completely unexpected.”

Lana shrugged a little, she expected the unexpected from Nerlyn and K’ron. She turned and waked over to the Weyrwoman wrapping arm around around his neck. “The boy will be safe but I need you to check in on Nerlyn when we are gone Weyrleader.” Lana whispered.

A'ren watched K'ron disappear before Lana walked over. He nodded a bit. “Of course I will,” he promised. This was certainly getting a bit crazier then he had expected. He felt for Nerlyn and K'ron. They had a lot on their plates.

Lana knew he would without her poking but it made her feel better to prod a little. “Good. Now do you want your shirt back?” She wondered quickly, trailing her fingers down his bare chest grinning at him.

He would definitely make sure to check on Nerlyn and Raen. More so now then ever. He laughed a bit. “Hmm that depends,” he growled playfully. “Do you come with the shirt?”

Lana bite her lip looking up at him as she spread her hands across his chest before grinning. “Always.” She assured him quietly as she leaned up spreading herself against him kissing him quickly.
