Nerlyn tossed and turned in the large bed that was hers in the craft hall that held her sleeping child. She slowly got up trying to not wake him as she got up to get something to drink and maybe settled herself back down. She pulled her uniform jacket on over K’ron’s shirt she wore to bed and snuck out into the main craft hall main area and raised an eyebrow as she noticed R’kig sat in the chair. “What are you doing here?” She wondered gently looking around at why he could be there.
R'kig hadn't wasted time going to see Nerlyn. Knowing his brother if he waited too long K'ron would carry out his threat and come get Nerlyn himself. Instead R'kig found himself at the Hall in the early candlemarks sipping on a mug of klah while he waited for Nerlyn and Raen. “Hello to you too,” he smiled.
Nerlyn sighed pushing her hair back out of her face as she approached confused and sat down. “Sorry. Hello R’kig… but seriously what are you doing here at this time of the day? Do you need a dolphineer for something?”
He should have expected a very confused greeting. “A particular dolphineer, yes,” he answered. “Maybe one with a mate is was allowed out of the infirmary today,” he hinted at, sliding his still full mug of klah over to Nerlyn.
“Me? Shards sake R’kig. How long have you been waiting?” She demanded taking the mug still confused as she turned to look at him. She had been trying to sort her own feeling our over what had happened visiting to check on him when he had been asleep until the last few days. Thing alike this had been easier when she had lived in the Weyr.
The blue rider shrugged a shoulder. “Just after Fall ended,” he answered. “It was the best way to keep K'ron from coming here himself.” He knew for a fact that K'ron would have convinced Tyreth to fly him straight here.
“That was candlemarks ago.” She muttered “why didn’t you knock on my door?” She wondered trying to work out why he didn’t just come and find her. “I thank you for attempting to keep him out of trouble.” She took a sip of the klah and winced at how sweet it was.
“I wasn't in any hurry. It was peaceful here,” he answered. “Besides you and Raen needed sleep too.” He chuckled a bit. “You know my brother. He just wants you both home. Plus someone has to keep him from reinjuring that shoulder.”
She glanced around. Barely anyone lived in the craft hold a lot of the time so it was peaceful. “I know him better than I know myself sometimes but also why i stayed here so he could concentrate on himself.” Nerlyn said rolling her eyes.
R'kig didn't doubt that. K'ron and Nerlyn seemed like two pieces to the same puzzle. He raised a brow. “You really think he did that? You know he hates having you guys away from the Weyr.”
“Does it really matter now?” Nerlyn asked grabbing a fur from the side colouring it over her lap and legs as despite the fire it was starting to get cold.
“Nope not as long as you are planning on coming back now,” he answered. He knew how Nerlyn could be and he couldn't exactly force her.
“And what if I don’t want to?” Nerlyn wondered quietly looking into the klah sighing. She wanted to go back home but she was stubborn and was not sure she could not say she told him so.
R'kig stared at her in disbelief. “You can't be serious?” The blue rider said, not thrilled with this turn of events. he shouldn't have been surprised. “I'll tell you what happens. I go back and tell K'ron you and Raen are staying here. He goes and saddles Tyreth up and flies here, might even between if he isn't thinking. Then the wherryhead ends up in the infirmary again.”
“That’s on him. I’m not being guilted when I told … I… I know this R’kig but what do you want from me?” She asked in a low voice.
R'kig narrowed his dark eyes. Unlike K'ron he didn't put up with Nerlyn in the same way. “I want you to come home without a fight cause I don't want to have to make you. But I am also not letting K'ron kill himself because both of you are too stubborn,” he warned.
“Yet I am the one who has to back down?” Nerlyn wondered quietly seeing R’kig narrowing his eyes and looking just like his older brother when they were about to come to an em pass in ways they saw things.
“You don't want to go home?” He asked, clearly not understanding her reasoning. he didn't know how K'ron put up with her sometimes. “You would rather stay here then be with your mate?”
“I want to go back to the we…home but I do not want to be the person who said I told you so.” She muttered quietly, swirling the klah around the mug before taking a sip.
R'kig scrubbed at his face. This was so confusing. “Ugg,” he groaned. “No wonder you two are perfect for each other. You are both crazy,” he grumbled.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” She murmured softly as she looked at the klah. “You have your klah far too sweet.” She did not like the sweetness but she was already being stubborn towards him.
R'kig shook his head. “Here I'll go fix it or else get you a fresh mug,” he said, getting to his feet. He was not going to argue about that. The blue rider walked over to the hearth and got a fresh mug for Nerlyn, hating what he was about to do but not knowing any other way. He returned to her and set the mug down. “there you are. I'll take my too sweet klah back now.”
Nerlyn said nothing to stir the argument again. She did not want to argue with the young man when he was her brother in all but blood and her son's uncle. “Thank you.” She whispered, passing him the mug with the sugar as she took a large gulp to get rid of the taste.
“Of course. I forget not everyone likes it sweet,” he commented. He picked up his own mug to sip on again, hating what he had done but not sure what else he could have done.
“I like it sweet … but … not that sweet.” She said, yawning. “Sorry I suddenly feel knackered after not being able to sleep.” She said quietly.
He nodded. Yeah he did make his extra sweet compared to most. “It's okay. I understand the not sleeping part,” R'kig said, still hating himself.
“Yeah… did you have fun at the gather I saw you with that journeyman.” Nerlyn commented as she tried to keep her eyes awake to talk to the man more seeing he had come all that way to speak to her.
“I did. I got see the runners and then he took me to another party area,” he answered. He had actually ended up enjoying himself after the first shock.
“And no more Jemm?” She wondered leaning her head back against the wall. This was harder than she thought it would be. She had never been the type to suddenly fall asleep but she was struggling to keep her eyes open
He shook his head. “Haven't seen her. Not sure i want to,” he answered. Cassine was still a hard subject and one he didn't like talking about. “You okay?” He asked gently.
“My head feels heavy.” She whispered looking up while blinking as she caught his expression and narrowed her eyes a little. “What have you done!” She demanded
“You didn't leave me any choice,” he answered quietly. He wasn't proud of it but he wasn't playing games either.
“You dru… ged me? R’kig…I’m…” Nerlyn whispered as her eyes closed and she slumped backward. Her last thought was she was going to kill him when she woke up and faced whatever he was going to do.
The blue rider knew he was in deep trouble. If he wasn't careful she would feed him to Tyreth for what he had done. He sighed softly as he stood up and went around to pick her up. Sharding brother and his mate anyhow.
