Mission: 3531 AL
Location: RCW
Timeline: M3 D28

K'ron winced a bit as he made his way down the steps from his weyr. They had finally let him leave the infirmary, but that didn't mean his shoulder hurt any less. he bit his tongue though against the pain as right now he was sure there was a brown rider that needed him more.

He soon reached the Dining Cavern, spotting the rider he had been looking for. “G'len?”

The brown rider was not in any state for company as he sat there in a clean uniform with his hair all over the place. He looked like he had cleaned up and then came straight there. G’len had just finished a pitcher of ale that a pretty drudge had brought to him when he had spotted K’ron hobbling over. “Hello K’ron.” The man said indicated the chair across from him. “Ale?”

This was the exact way K'ron had expected to find G'len. He himself hadn't taken the news well but he needed to make sure his wing was safe. he carefully made his way over to the table and slid into the offered seat. “Please,” he answered.

The brown rider leaned over to where the mugs were and grabbed 2 pouring the ale into both and put them both down sloppily in front of the man. It was not pretty but they were mostly intact. “Do not come here to lecture me K’ron. I am fully aware of my failures today and I would just like to drink my ale until and then find a pretty bed partner and forget all about the screams and the mourning cries.” He murmured quietly.

K'ron nearly got splashed but somehow G'len managed to miss. The bronze rider shook his head before taking a sip of his ale. “You do not know me at all if you think that is why I came,” he said. “I came to check on my wing second, not lecture. you did everything you could.”

“I don't know you.” G’len pointed out. He had been there less than a month when he had stepped in to lead the wing. “I do not know any of you well enough. I should have… I could have.” He stopped at the excuse and poured himself another mug of the ale.

The bronze rider frowned. “The first thing you'll learn about me is I don't lecture,” he pointed out. He had never been that way. “And I am not lecturing now. You did everything you could,” he pointed out. “Thread doesn't care or play fair. You couldn't have guessed that shift.”

“I know this. It does not make it any easier. She was barely old enough to be in the wings and…” The man mentally kicked himself and just took another swig of the ale. This was not going to help anyone but it was part of his process of working through it all.

K'ron nodded a bit. He completely understood G'len's feelings. Losing a rider was never easy and losing one so young was even worse. Thankfully they hadn't lost anyone else. “I know,” he said gently. “It doesn't make this any easier.”

G’len sighed and scratched at his hair again which just made the madness with his hair worse. He shook his head and just looked haunted for a moment. “I have never lost someone so young.” He admitted.

That explained it. The loss of a young life would haunt the brown rider forever. K'ron knew the one he lost still did. “They are the hardest,” he agreed. “I still remember the young blue rider I lost. The hurt will fade but you'll always remember it.”

G’len nodded as he spotted several riders form the wing coming in. He waved to the ones he recognised. “I don’t think tonight it will but tomorrow is another day. How are you finding your brother being in the same wing?” He wondered as the group seemed hesitant to come over.

K'ron nodded. Time was really the only answer. He groaned a bit. “It's hard,” he admitted. “I worry about him even more that he is in my wing,” he answered. “I mean i always worried about him but now he is under my charge. “

“He is a good rider. His blue is strong and agile need a few more like his blue.” Facts and figures were easy for him to default to. He knew riders and their dragons better than his emotions.

“Can we join?” Kalana wondered as she stood at the edge of the table.

K'ron was glad to hear that. He knew his brother and blue were a good pair. It was just hard to watch him. But then it had been that way with Nerlyn too. “I agree. I keep looking when we get new riders or weyrlings in the wing.” He looked up and smiled at Kalana. “I'm okay with that. G'len?”

“Sit Kalana.” G’len instructed trying to sound less harsh but the tone was his tone. Kalana slid into the chair and offered a smile to K’ron.

“Great to see you up and around K’ron.” Kalana said knowing it would be easier to speak to the wingleader than the brown rider when he looked ready to drink himself silly. All they could do was keep him safe if he went that route.

K'ron was learning that was G'len's tone. He was sure with time the brown rider would start to settle in and get used to the easier ways here. He smiled at Kalana. “Thanks. It feels good to be up even if my arm doesn't always like it.” Now if he could just get Nerlyn to come home.

“Out of the infirmary?” She wondered glancing at G’len as he just stared into his ale with a frown on his face trying to work out what to add to the conversation.

“Just today actually. Think they were making sure they had beds if needed.” hopefully they hadn't needed that many though.

Kalana raised an eyebrow as she spotted S’laten and waved, smiling in his direction. “And Nerlyn is letting you out of her sight.” Kalana laughed a little as G’len decided to pour the woman a mug of ale.

S'laten grinned when he saw his mate and changed directions to go sit with her.

K'ron shook his head. “She hasn't come back from Dolphin craft Hall yet,” he answered. “So she doesn't know i’m up and moving, well up anyhow.”

Kalana raised a dark coloured eyebrow at him. “That sounds … are you good? Do we need to do a rescue mission?” She wondered, saluting G’len as he offered her the mug.

S'laten slid into the seat next to Kalana as K'ron mentioned about Nerlyn. “Not sure yet what I need to do,” K'ron admitted. “I might send Koda or I might go myself if i don't see her soon.”

“You aren’t going, Sir.” Kalana said with some form of respect before she glanced at S’laten to explain what was going on. “Nerlyn hasn’t come back from Dolphin Craft Hall yet.”

“I could go retrieve her?” G’len offered. “She didn’t look that solid. Throw her over my shoulders and bring back.”

K'ron frowned at Kalana as S'laten sighed. “I'm not going to break,” the Wing leader grumbled. He glanced at G'len. “As much as I would like to see that, it wouldn't end well.”

“I'll go,” R'kig said, having overheard them as he walked by. He knew how to handle Nerlyn.

“No way I wanna see G’len kidnap Nerlyn.” Kalana said crossing her legs as she grinned at the brown rider. “I wanna see if Nerlyn can still fight or if being a dolphineer has softened the weyrbrat in her.”

K'ron groaned as S'laten shook his head after his mate. “Can we not kidnap my pregnant mate?” K'ron asked. “Cause you know it will be me who suffers for that one after she tries to get away from G'len?”.”

G’len shrugged. He really didn’t see anything bad about any of it but he was not going to force the subject. “I think it’s perfect excuse to get her back home but …” she let the thought drift off as she caught S’laten’s gaze.

“Kal,” S'laten warned. “We don't want K'ron injured or G'len running because of her temper.”

R'kig shook his head. “You know that will only make her leave again,” he pointed out as K'ron groaned.

“G’len does not look like the type that would back down.” Kalana said before she held up her hand in a peaceful gesture. “But I concede we can do it your way but I just think it would be a nice way to end today of all days.”

“I do not know Nerlyn but I do not understand the … fear.” The brown rider commented

K'ron frowned at the green rider before looking over at G'len. “It's a long story,” he answered, absently rubbing his injured arm.

R'kig ignored the rest. “I'll get going. I promised Raen I would visit anyhow.” He knew his nephew wanted to come back to the Weyr.

“Sounds like it.” G’len said clearly confused by the prospect of a dolphineer being scary but everyone he met had the opinion that she was as nice as she was deadly. He turned to R’kig. “Good luck I guess.” He offered softly.

The blue rider smiled at his wing second. “she's not that scary,” he grinned. “But she has a temper when she thinks she's in the fight.”

“Alright,” K'ron grumbled. “That is my mate you're talking about,” he pointed out as R'kig just grinned before slipping out of the Dining Cavern.

“He has said nothing that you do not love her for.” Kalana grinned. “I mean… sir.” She commented daring him to deny anything she had said as she waved at R’kig as he walked away.

The bronze rider frowned as he shifted in his seat to make his arm more comfortable. “Yeah you're very right,” he had to agree with a smile. He did love everything about Nerlyn.

“Come on S’laten. Let’s leave them to it and dance.” Kalana said reading the room with K’ron easy enough.

“Enjoy your evening.” G’len said quietly as he poured ale. “You do not need to stay K’ron.” He added quietly.

S'laten didn't argue as Kalana pulled him to his feet. Dancing would be a nice way to calm down after the Fall.

K'ron shrugged a shoulder, instantly regretting it. “got nowhere else to be,” he pointed out. “So having a drink with my wing second sounds like a good place to me.”“

“Suit yourself. So now it’s just me and you, how long have you been with a crafter?” He wondered thinking of his former mate who was a crafter who had transfer as she wanted to move on and did not think the Weyr would allow her to do that.

The bronze rider considered how to answer that. “Well she was a green rider up until just before our son was born,” he admitted. It was still hard to think about Nerlyn’s green and how he had nearly lost her.

“Big change. My former mate was a crafter was hard but thankfully no children.” He murmured thinking of the boy he had seen K’ron with a couple of time.

“it was. Still hard to get used to.” he was surprised by G’len’s words. “really?” he asked. “may I ask where she is now?” he didn't want to make things worse for the brown rider but he was curious.

“I am guessing Ruatha or Fort Hold from where she was considering had enough prestige for her.” He shrugged not entirely if he was honest. One minute they had been building a life and the next she had decided that the Weyr was not ever going to expand on her skills. “I can understand why they say never mix crafters, holders and riders but it seems to work down south better than the north.”

K'ron slowly nodded. That was rough. “The south is definitely different,” he agreed. He knew they did a lot of things that the north would never consider.

“I am starting to see it.” The man assured quickly as he noticed several harpers start up on the stage. “Any riders or… anyone who you think I should avoid?” He wondered knowing the man would know the ins and outs of the people that lived there.

K'ron considered G'len’s question. “Honestly most of the riders are easy going. F'cone has a temper but that seems directed more at the Weyrleader then the riders,” he chuckled. “But his mate is keeping him grounded.””

“One of those wishes it was him things?” The brown rider said with a roll of his eyes. He had seen it at his former Weyr but thankfully he had kept out of all all that drama.

K'ron nodded. “Yeah. It was for a bit but didn't last long,” he answered. “He is a good wing leader though and will have your back.”

“I can handle bronze riders like that. North is full of them” The younger man admitted with a shrug. He had met many bronze riders who had egos and dreams of being Weyrleader when they were ill suited.

K'ron could see that. He was in the position he was because of one. “Then there's really no one you have to worry about. I mean there is a lot of different personalities but everyone is nice.”

G’len nodded quietly as he took another gulp of the ale finally at trying to feel the effects he wanted. “I was not worried, I just want to avoid drama and just live my life the best way I can in a new place.” He said with a grin as his shoulder slumped.

“Oh trust me you'll get drug into drama,” K'ron grinned. “Just wait til you meet my mate. But it's all in good fun and everyone gets along,” he assured the brown rider. He hadn't seen many who actually didn't get along. Especially now that Dragon Hold was gone.

“I do not think I want to meet her. I’m terrified of her already.” G’len murmured thinking of all the people he had met over the last month thanks to the new wing and all the flights he had won thanks to his brown eagerness to flirt with all the new greens.

K'ron laughed a bit. “Don’t be. She's really not that scary,” he grinned. Although he knew Nerlyn could be a lot. “How has it been going meeting the others around?”

G’len shrugged. “Not too bad I think. I have met far too many green riders through flights but…” He shrugged just thankful none of them had been wing members so he could build rapport properly before flights were a thing.

K'ron tried not to laugh at that. “Yeah we have a lot of greens,” he agreed. Thankfully Tyreth didn't chase many except the golds. “Hopefully nothing too embarrassing,” he teased.

“A weyrlings first flight was the worst thankfully and he was weyrbred.” The man hated first flights because of how awkward they could become quickly but the man thankfully did not make it awkward and was quite relieved he had no idea who G’len was.

K'ron cringed. “Yeah those are bad,” he agreed. He had faced a couple of those when Tyreth was younger. “That's a plus. The holdbred are the hardest.” They didn't always understand what was going on.

“Nope. But S’ven told me it’s a little easier in the south as homosexuality is not quite as frowned on as it’s a little more open especially in the bigger holds.” G’len sighed a little as he watched the Harpers start to play, making conversation a little hard. “

He nodded a bit. “S'ven would definitely know,” K'ron agreed. He knew the blue rider had had troubles when he was younger. “Just hope you don't catch Vyiath,” he teased. “S'ven wouldn't be real thrilled.” He knew S'ven and Kelsa were solid though and would be fine.

“I’ll try to remember that but I am not setting out to make a name for myself. My brown is a flirt and just cannot help himself with all the new green’s.” G’len assured quietly. He was just there whilst his brown was setting out to have fun.

K'ron laughed. “There is nothing wrong with that. Most of the greens here are flirts. I was only teasing as Vyiath’s rider Kelsa is S'ven’s mate.”

“I know. I just do not want to be they rider… even if I did come here tonight to find someone to forget today with.” The brown rider admitted downing his ale. He had not had a conversation like this for a while. It was humbling.

“It's okay,” K'ron assured him. “No one is going to judge you. And tonight you do whatever you need to help you forget. In the morning things will look a bit better,” he promised.

“Good cause I have just seen someone familiar who looks like fun.” He said grinning in a way G’len hadn’t so far as he stood taking what remained of his jug and stumbled off to a familiar green rider and sat down with her.

K'ron raised a brow before laughing. Good for him. Hopefully she could help G'len forget for a bit.
