Analees was nervous. She couldn't help it. Yes, Terliyn was one of her best friends and she had been the only one there to actually see what Analees had gone through with Rosan, but it was still hard. She hated reliving that moment. She finally reached Terliyn’s door and knocked.
Terliyn had just been drifting off to sleep with her newborn safely snuggled up in his cot when the soft knock interrupted and she groaned. She slowly and awkwardly got up from her bed and moved to the door smiling as she realised it was Analees. “Hello.” She whispered looking sleepy and confused at the visitor but it was not an unwelcome visit.
Analees felt awful when she saw how tired Terliyn looked. “I'm sorry” She apologized. “I didn't mean to wake you.” She hadn't even thought about that possibility.
“New born. I sleep when he sleeps or I try to at least. Come in.” Terliyn took a hold of one of her hands and pulled her into the rooms her and Talomin shared with Lea.
She nodded a bit. It felt like ages since Rosan had been the little. Did she want that again? Analees wasn't really sure as she let Terliyn pull her inside. “You sure you're okay with me being here?”
“Yes. What’s wrong? You look like you need a hug?” It was hard to define what was going on with the woman from the look on her face but something was certainly troubling her. She might not know but she gave the woman a hug pulling her against her as they sat on the sofa.
Analees bit her lip, not wanting to cry again. She still didn't know exactly how to feel about everything. “It's…” she trailed off briefly. “You remember when Ros was born. You were the only one…who ever knew how scared…I was.”
“Of course I did. It was me and you against Pern at that point.” She said quietly letting Analess go to clutch her hand trying to work out where this was going with this question when they had never spoken about that day.
The dark haired woman nodded. She had never been so happy to see Terliyn then she was that day. Analees fought back some tears. “I'm pregnant,” she finally managed to get out.
Ah, Terliyn decided with a sigh that would explain it all. Terliyn instantly knew why the woman was crumbling in front of her.“Oh Ana.” Terliyn hugged her close and brushed her hair.
Analees buried her face. It was probably wherrybrained but she couldn't help it. “I'm scared, Terliyn. I I don't know if i…can do this…again.”
“We are in the Weyr. You do not need to do anything you do not want to.” Had V’ros not said that? Or had she not learned that? Shards, she was going to have words with that Weyrlingmaster.
“I know,” she whispered. “V'ros told me…it is my choice. He will stand by…anything I choose. But am I just…being wherryheaded?” Surely the same thing wouldn't happen twice.
“Not at all. I can’t say who but I know several women around the Weyr who actively avoid sex or are constantly going between to avoid another pregnancy because of how dangerous it is for them or they fear it after the last time. There is no judgement.” Terliyn said softly stroking her friends hair trying to calm her down and reassure her.
Analees slowly nodded. She still couldn’t believe this had happened. She had spent Turns in Dragon Hold and never gotten pregnant, but she just let her guard down with V'ros. “I love Ros to pieces…and would love to…give V'ros another, but….I am just so scared it will happen again.”
“If V’ros was here he’d tell you that you do not need to give him children. He is a rider, they barely think of their offspring most of the time with the dragons. You can be entirely selfish in this Ana.” Terliyn assured her as a soft cry started making the woman roll her eyes. It was poor timing where her newborn son
decided to make his presence known.
Analees slowly nodded. That made sense. She had learned that the riders didn't really get to raise their children and V'ros had already told her she had given him something he never expected with being able to watch Rosan grow. Before she could say more though the tiny cry interrupted them. She moved out of Terliyn’s arms so she could get her son.
“Rilo has no sense of timing yet.” Terliyn said gently as she rose to get the baby, bringing him back holding him against her chest. “I know you do not mind but I am going to have to feed him.” The woman said apologetically.
“They never do,” Analees chuckled softly. She shook her head. “It's fine. Little Rilo comes before anything else,” she said in understanding.
Terliyn shifted so she would be able to feed Rilo who greedily started to suckle. “So tell me what exactly is going on Ana. We’ve been through so much and I’m now worried about you.” She admitted moving her hand from Rilo to touch Analees hand.
Analees kept quiet, letting the little baby decide when he was ready to eat before talking again. “I don't think I've ever felt so scared,” she admitted. “I thought i was going to die without ever seeing V’ros or my son.” She hated that she felt that way. “I shouldn't still be so scared though.”
“But you are allowed to feel like that. You have been through so much.” Terliyn said knowing a lot of people from Dragon Hold thought that they had to bottle it all up until it burst out. She knew the feeling well thanks to her own time there and her own trauma but Analees spent so much more time there.
Terliyn was right there. It had been awful and the last few Turns there had gotten worse. “How do you and Talomin do it?” She asked softly. Terliyn was really the only one who knew the full extent of what she had gone through and she knew Talomin had had his fair share of things as well.
“And there is your error. We don’t. Tal is a lot better at it than me but we take the good with the bad.” She hinted stroking her tiny son’s cheek as he nuzzled closer trying to get a better position to feed. I did not want to give birth last month because I did not want to face if Lea was Talomin’s or… his. So it’s okay to have fear.”
Analees sighed softly. Yeah she knew who he was. Her brother. The man who had protected her up until he could use her. “I didn't realize,” she admitted softly. “I am so sorry for everything you both had to go through. I am glad to have met you though. I know Ros and I wouldn't be here otherwise.”
“I wouldn’t change you Analees and I know Lenya wouldn’t either. Our friendship might have been forged in the toughest of times but it is something I value more than a lot of friendships I have.” Terliyn really meant that, she valued Analess for the compassion and kindest that she showed her every day. “And I am sorry you are feeling scared. But you do not have to do anything you do not feel ready for right now. The last turn has been tougher than people realise on you.”
She smiled. Terliyn had been the first true friend she had ever had and she couldn't imagine not having the other woman in her life. “And you have been the truest friend I have ever had.” She slowly nodded a bit. She still wasn't sure what she was going to do but Terliyn was right. the last Turn had been miserable. “It truly has.”
Terliyn leaned her head against the other woman’s. “Always.” The healer assured as she heard the sounds that her husband and daughter were coming down the corridor. She glanced up surprised but she should not have been really as Talomin was reluctant to leave her for long after last time with a newborn but she was in a much better place.
Analees was feeling a bit better at least. It felt good to have someone understand her. V'ros was trying and she loved him for it. Sometimes it just wasn't easy. “Sounds like someone is home,” she smiled.
“Very much but you do not need to rush off. You are family.” Terilyn said firmly as Lea threw open the door looking like she wanted to say something loud but stopped herself when she saw her baby brother away and feed.
Analees was going to argue but she knew she wouldn't win with Terliyn. Although seeing the bright smile on Lea's face made her grin.
Talomin was only a few stalling steps behind his very active daughter. “Sorry. Hope we didn't disturb anyone.”
“Not in the slightest. Hello my lovelies.” Terilyn said as Rilo unlatched and she moved him to her shoulder doing her top back up. She rubbed the baby’s back waiting for him to burp as Leah climbed up between the 2 women and happily snuggled into the space.
“Hey Lea,” Analees smiled, shifting to let the little girl in between. She nodded a greeting to Talomin. “Hey Talomin.”
Talomin smiled. “Ana,” he said. “And beautiful, how are you two doing?” he asked moving to gently take their son and give Terliyn a break.
Terliyn grinned at the man as he took their son into his arms and she awkwardly moved the cloth over his shoulder just incase. “I am good as is Rilo but me and Ana were just catching up. I was just about to tell her how you nearly fainted.” She teased him.
Talomin gently rocked their son. He raised a brow at his wife. “I did no such thing,” he said.
Analees hid a smile behind her hand. It was nice to see the two of them so happy.
“He did when he was told he had a son.” Terliyn assured quietly with a smirk. She might tease the man but she loved him fiercely and just watching him rock their son made her love him even more.
Talomin narrowed his eyes before shrugging. “Maybe I did,” he answered, refusing to admit one way or another.
Analees smiled. They were cute together. “I think that would be a good reason to faint,” she said.
Terliyn winked at the man as he narrowed his eyes and shrugged it away. She would never said anything with anyone else but Analees was not just anyone. “I am glad you didn’t I needed someone to be alert with 2 apprentices to deliver him.” She grinned and leaned out to touch his hand.
Talomin groaned. “Oh yes because I would have been such a big help,” he answered with a shake of his head as he moved his free hand to squeeze hers.
“I still don't know how you guys do it,” Analees smiled, watching them.
Terilyn grinned knowing that he was not giving himself enough credit when he had been the one to keep her calm until the women of the lower caverns could get there to help. “Do what?” Lea asked, giggling at her parents.
Talomin just grinned. He was glad he had been there for Rilo's birth. He had missed Lea's.
“Stay so happy,” Analees answered the little girl with a smile. “your mommy and daddy are always happy around each other.”
“Cause they have me and Ri!” Lea declared.
“And so are you and V’ros.” The healer commented as she awkwardly got to her feet as the little girl wrapped herself around her making it difficult.
“Well you are very right, little one,” Analees chuckled. She smiled up at Terliyn and nodded. She was happy with V'ros and couldn't imagine not having him.
“Come on I’ll walk you home as I could use a stretch.” Terliyn offered Analee’s an arm to pull her up from the couch. She glanced at Talomin and just smiled at the sight of him holding their son against his shoulder. It was a perfect sight in her opinion.
“I would lIke that,” Analees agreed, accepting Terliyn's help up. “See you later Tal,” she smiled as Talomin nodded. His focus was on his son and daughter.
