V’ros rubbed his eyes as he looked around the office and tried to figure out how he could leave C’dan and Kirala to all of this for a couple of days. There was nothing planned apart from the ordinary drills and classes, there was nothing new planned and he valued their skills but it was not him. He liked to know that things were done his way, he knew his standards which was annoying as C’dan had taught him them. So why was he worried?
He looked up as his office door opened with a squeak and Analess stood there.
Analees had been worried about her mate. He had seemed a bit preoccupied. Well more so than normal for him. And then when he was still in his office when they had plans she knew something was going on. Hence why she now stood at his office door.
“V'ros? Oh love you look worried sick about something.”
Shards, he hadn’t even mentioned to Analess yet that he would be away for a few days when he had been worrying so much about the Weyrlings. “I feel sick with worry in all honesty.” He admitted with a sigh as he pressed his thumb and forefinger against the top of his nose trying to relieve some of the pressure there.
She walked further into the office and dropped into one of the empty chairs. She hadn’t seen him like that in a long time. “what is going on?” She asked gently.
The man let out a long breath before he decided to just explain it how it was. “I have been asked to go north with the Weyrwoman and… K’ron.” The man murmured knowing that would raise an eyebrow or 2. He rose from the chair and sat next to her stretching out his legs in front of him.
“Um okay. That seems really odd,” she commented, knowing V'ros past with Nerlyn and K’ron. “And north? For how long?” Had he mentioned this before and she had just forgotten? She had been a bit forgetful lately..
“It is odd but I can understand. The Weyr we are off to has a weyrling queen rider and no Weyrwoman so I need to talk to her and see what is going on.” He was privileged to be asked to go but he did not like it. “K’ron is there to keep the Weyrwoman out of trouble but I should be gone a couple of days maximum.”
Analees frowned a bit. That was a lot they were taking on. not that she had any idea what it was all about, but it must be important. “Poor girl,” she commented. “A couple days? Umm, okay. I guess stay safe.” she was just a bit confused.
“Aye and she is young… under aged so her queen won’t rise for several turns yet which is troubling.” V’ros frowned. He vaguely remembered meeting the girl when he had gone to High Reaches last turn to take some resources but he could not remember her properly. “You sound confused. I am confused too but the Weyrwoman wants to look in there older records.”
“That is even worse. I can see why they asked you to tag along. you could be very helpful. Not that I really want you leaving that long.” She still wasn't feeling the best but she knew he needed to go. “Hmm wonder what she wants to find.”
“Not a clue.” He said absently. He had an idea but he was not going to share that with Analees there and then. It was not down to him when it was not known to anyone. “That is me. The helpful weyrlingmaster.” He did not want to go himself but he had no choice in the grand scheme of things. He was a rider and his Weyrleader was sending him.
She laughed a bit. “You are helpful. Just look at your weyrlings and your son,” she pointed out. Analees was sure he could help the young Weyrwoman but she was going to miss him. “I'm just being selfish and don't want to share,” she admitted.
“I don’t want to go. I have gotten used to my bed and my mate and it’s High Reaches. Do you know how cold it is going to be?” He said laughing feeling more relaxed now than he had her there and she was not cross at him going off and was complimenting him as a Weyrlingmaster and a father.
Analees shook her head. “I have no idea. I have only ever been down here. I've heard it's really cold,” she giggled. “And no one to keep you warm.” She liked this easy teasing they had.
“I went there in the summer last and that was cold enough. It’s not often I bundle up in furs and flight gears all the time.” he shivered and leaned his head back on the wall. “I do not want to go but my duty makes me have to go. It’s complicated and some of it I do not even have an idea how to explain but just trust me that it will be okay.”
“Ooh that does sound cold,” she agreed, snuggling close to his side. “I know and if Lana wants you there then you should go. Ros and I will be fine,” she promised. She would miss him terribly but she knew he would be back.
“Far to cold but I know you will be fine.” The man assured her quickly. He had every confidence in his mate and their son being okay for 2 nights or so without him. They did it often when hatching happened and he had to be on duty.
“Definitely too cold,” she agreed. She sat up a bit, making sure not to make any sudden movements. Movements like that still made her nauseous. “Now you best help that young girl learn her duty. Sounds like she needs help.”
“Been a while since I’ve helped a weyrling queen. And I am only assisting as their Weyrlingmaster has asked for help as there are no senior pair or anything.” V’ros explained properly realising he had left that out of
Analees looked at him in surprise. “Really? No senior queen? That poor poor girl,” she whispered. Talk about being left completely in the dark. “Do you think you can help?”
“Exactly.” V’ros sighed running his hands through his hair making it stand on ends as he thought about it all. “If it was me I would talk to her and see if she wanted to go to another Weyr and open up the Weyr to any Queen rider but that is me. It is down to her and her thoughts.” V’ros said knowing he was not there to discuss that just to check her training and support where he could.
“You can do that?” Analees asked curiously. She didn't really know how the Weyr worked, but it sounded like a good idea to her. She wouldn't want that responsibility without some guidance.
“She’s young. Her queen is not going to rise for at least another 3 turns which means no new pairings for that Weyr unless transfers and the Weyr cannot request any Queen riders because she is there.” It was complicated and it had to be the girl that came to that decision without interference. “It’s weyr heiracy and it’s complicated but we shall figure it out but I have to go.”
That definitely sounded confusing but she kind of understood. Basically they couldn't make the girl leave, but it would be for her benefit as well as the Weyr's if she did. “I know you do. You just be careful.”
“I have been careful since the day I met you.” The man commented with a sly grin. “But what are we going to do with our evening hmm?” He wondered slowly pushing off from the sofa wondering what she had planned or more precisely what they had planned as he knew they had something to do.
She chuckled softly. “Hmm, well we were supposed to have dinner and some time to ourselves since Ros is in the creche til this evening,” she answered. “But I'm not sure our friends waited for us,” Analees teased.
“Who were we going to meet?” He asked, rising and offering a hand to her to pull her up. The sofa was far too low for him, he would talk to the wood crafter when he got back and see if he could get a new one or find someone to swap with.
Analees allowed him to pull her to her feet with a smile. “Tal and Terli,” she answered. “We were gonna let the couple have a little time not having to worry about the baby.”
“Shards. I forgot about that. It was going to be there first night away from the baby. I am sure they found other ways to entertain themselves.” The Weyrlingmaster 2nd was sure of it. He knew the baby was only a few sevendays old but it was a big test for Terliyn to see how she was feeling this time around. “She’ll be fine.” The man said softly, taking her hand. “But we can go check.”
“It's okay. You have had a lot on your mind too.” She hadn’t realized about the trip north until now. Although she would definitely have to check on Terliyn and Talomin. “You sure you're still up for it?” She asked.
“Yes. I would like to check on the pair too. They are our friends and Terilyn spends half her days patching up my weyrlings so it’s only fair I check that she is okay.” He said smoothly knowing there was an undertone to what he was saying.
“Perfect,” Analees grinned. “I wanna see that baby. I can't believe they are parents again.” She was so excited for them and they looked so happy. She moved to slip under his arm. “Shall we?”
