I didn’t speak all my truths

Mission: 3531 AL

R'kig hadn't slept much the night before as sleeping alone still got to him at times. He had promised Raen though and he wasn't going to disappoint his nephew. He quickly got dressed, hoping he didn't look too disheveled as he made his way toward his brother's weyr. He stopped outside and knocked, hoping he wasn't disturbing anyone..

There was a soft squeal from inside but Raen quickly opened the door and held up his fingers to his mouth indicating they needed to be quiet. “Mama is still asleep.” The boy explained looking wide awake despite how his dad and uncle both looked knackered.

R'kig chuckled when Raen opened the door. Even on the worst of days the little boy could make him smile. “Okay we'll be quiet then. We don't want to wake her,” he whispered back to his nephew.

Raen opened the door properly so the blue rider could come into the weyr properly and the boy ran back over to his dad climbing back on the chair at the table to finish his fruit. “Daddy said I can’t leave until I’ve had breakfast.” The boy said glancing to K’ron.

K'ron smiled tiredly at his brother as his son climbed back onto his chair. “Looks like your night was as bad as mine,” he chuckled before nodding. “That's right. you need to eat and your uncle looks like he needs some klah,” he commented, pushing a mug toward the blue rider.

R'kig nodded his head gratefully as he slid into an empty seat. “Thanks. I hadn't made it down to grab any yet.” He happily sipped on the warm mug of klah.

“Why was your night bad daddy?” Raen asked politely as he looked both men over. They looked tired like his mama had looked tired when she had put him to bed last night.

R'kig hid a laugh as it seemed like his brother had really stepped in it. K'ron silently groaned. He spoke without thinking. “I just didn’t sleep well, Raen,” he assured his son.

“Why not?” The boy wondered quietly.

“Yes K’ron why did you not sleep well?” Nerlyn wondered appearing in the doorway looking barely awake as she pulled on uniform jacket as she came out having heard R’kig’s voice.

K'ron narrowed his eyes at his mate. He could see she wasn't going to be any help. “Daddy just stayed up too late,” he answered, not about to say he drank too much and ended up sleeping in his brother's weyr.

R'kig has to bite back a snicker. That was one way to explain it.

“Daddy didn’t sleep well as he stayed with your uncle. So neither of them got sleep because of the other.” Nerlyn finally explained as she smothered Raen in kisses before she looked at K’ron and smirked. “But they had fun and that is all that matters.” She said pointedly.

“We did have fun,” R'kig answered, smiling brightly despite his looks. Too much wine and ale had led to bad nightmares for him, but it had helped having K'ron close by.

“Your mommy's right. We did stay up too late,” K'ron grinned.

“Me and mama slept a lot.” Raen shrugged. “I knew we had a big day.” Nerlyn laughed a little. She had gone to bed not long after him as she had been so tired.

“You have a big day. I am going to sit here and read and study.” Nerlyn said, grabbing up a piece of fruit before she sat on the sofa seeing all the boys were sitting at the table. ”and try not to go back to sleep.”

“Well that sounds like a good day,” K'ron smiled. He was glad his family had gotten some rest.

R'kig chuckled a bit. “Thanks Nerlyn,” he smiled. “And what if I start to fall asleep?” He wouldn't but hopefully he slept that night.

“You are in charge of my child. You know better.” Nerlyn said biting into her piece of fruit before she frowned at how sweet it was but carried on. Raen laughed and moved over to snuggle against his mothers side.

“If he falls asleep I am in charge.” Raen whispered.

The blue rider laughed. “I know I know,” he promised. He wouldn't fall asleep. He was tired but as long as he was with Raen he would be fine.

Nerlyn nodded to her son. “So want is your plan?” She asked stroking the little boy's hair as he snuggled against her small bump.

“Well I thought we'd start with visiting Riz. then maybe go exploring out on the island,” R’kig answered. He wanted Raen to have fun.

Nerlyn smiled a little. “You better go get your buoyancy aid.” Nerlyn said quietly to the boy as he finished up his fruit. “And wash your hands.” She encouraged with a laugh as she noticed how sticky he looked. She watched the little boy grin and rushed off. Nerlyn looked up at the pair. “You are both okay, yes?” She demanded.

R'kig smiled as he watched his nephew before turning to Nerlyn. He nodded. “I'm okay. I've gone on sleepless nights before. Raen will be safe.”

K'ron glanced at his brother, not believing him. R'kig looked awful. “We're good,” he promised his mate.

“R’kig I do not doubt that for a second but you look like you’ve been fighting thread all day and it’s barely dawn. What did you guys drink last night and was it worth it?” She wondered, smiling despite the worry she was feeling. She was trying to not let the pair know how worried she felt for him.

The blue rider looked down at his hands. It hadn't been the ale. It had been the nightmares.

“It was just ale,” K'ron answered, glancing at his brother. R'kig did look bad. “Well it might not have been,” he commented as R'kig did look like he had been fighting Thread.

“R’kig?” Nerlyn asked softly as she looked at the man more worried. She did not know how much K’ron knew of what was going on. “We can cancel today if you are not feeling up to it. You do not need to do everything on your check list. You’ve at least tried.” Nerlyn added thinking of her own checklists from her early sessions with mind healers. They had been basic like get outside for a candlemark, don’t forget to eat a meal but she knew trying was at least important.

R'kig looked up when he heard the worry in Nerlyn’s voice. “I'm okay,” he assured her. “I've been looking forward to it.” Which was true. He just wished he did feel more like himself. “I know, but…” he trailed off, not sure how to explain.

K'ron looked between the two in confusion. “Am i missing something?”

“Yes. I thought you were going to talk to each other?” Nerlyn whispered as she could hear Raen singing and coming in their direction . “Go out on the ledge and talk.” She instructed quickly as she moved to delay Raen from overhearing.

K'ron was confused. They had talked, but apparently not about everything. He looked over at his brother, seeing how awful he truly looked.

R'kig sighed softly. It hadn't been K'ron's fault. He hadn't been willing to talk about everything. He had just enjoyed having an evening with his brother.
