Bensen woke the morning after the Gather on the couch in a room he didn't recognize right away. He couldn’t remember what had happened right away until he moved to run his hand through his dark hair and the ring glittered
Shards that's right. He got married the night before. Bensen slowly pushed himself to a sitting position. Had that really happened?
Rena was worried. The man had been left to pack up his rooms and as of yet had not come down to breakfast. Rena decided to gather some fruits and small pastries and go and find him, her room had been packed up by the drudges as a favour so she had time to help him if he needed it. She tapped on the door and waited for him to speak or she’d start looking else where.
The young man rubbed at his face, trying to sort out everything in his head before trying to get ready for the day. He looked up when he heard the knock on his door. “It's open,” he said.
Rena stepped in looking a lot more put together than she had a few candlemark earlier. “You have been noted as missing from breakfast.” She said quietly coming over to her new husband. She lay out the napkin filled items in front of him. “Have you packed?”
Bensen groaned a little. He still looked rumpled unlike Rena who looked beautiful. “Sorry. I guess I overslept.” He looked up at his new wife. Wife. Shards that would take getting used to. “I've only barely started,” he admitted
The harper smiled patiently as she watched the emotions flicker across his face. “You went back to sleep when I left.” She gigged a little and pointed to the food. “Eat. I will help.” She promised having energy after some decent sleep and breakfast.
He slowly managed to wake himself up more. “Sorry about that. I didn't realize I was so tired.” Bensen picked up a piece of fruit. “You don't have to. I just need to get moving.”
“Eat your breakfast and let me do some of this.” She said, indicating the pile of clothes ready to be folded and to go into his bags. “I couldn’t bring you any klah so good will have to do.” Folding clothes was something she could do.
Bensen started to protest but then slowly nodded. “If you’re sure,” he finally answered, still trying to wrap his head around everything that happened. “Rena?” He finally asked, setting the food down. “Are you still okay with all this?”
Rena stopped mid folding the shirt that she had worn the night before and turned to look at the man. “Okay with all of this?” She wondered quietly, confused suddenly by that question. Was he not okay?
Bensen quickly looked up at the confusion in her voice. Shards he hadn't worded that very well. “That came out wrong. I just meant we haven't had a lot of time to talk. It's a big step. One that I am most definitely ready to take but I don't want you regretting it.”
“I do not regret. I have had no time to regret.” She said softly as she looked back to the clothes and went back to folding them. “I meant what I said for my vows.” She assured him. “I told you I would give us a turn.”
He nodded a bit. A Turn. Would that be what they needed? Bensen sighed softly. “I know you do. I just didn't want you to feel trapped.”
“You have not trapped me. If anyone has trapped anyone, it is I who has trapped you Bensen.” Rena reminded him softly. He did not need to be there; he had not needed to step up and marry her.
Bensen shook his head with a smile. “Definitely not trapped,” he assured her. “You've been my best friend for Turns now,” he pointed out. He had always cared for her and now he could show her.
Rena smiled softly. “Then I believe we are all sorted then.” She commented on folding another shirt. Which shirt do you want to wear home?” She wondered about changing the subject.
It appeared that way. He had just wanted to make sure as things had happened so quickly. “I'll wear the blue one,” he said, pointing to one of the shirts that hadn't been folded and packed.
The woman grabbed it up and frowned at the crumples and moved to grab a hanger. She moved to his bathing chamber and hung it there to hopefully decrease. “Stop worrying. I am here. I am happy enough right now. Tired despite it barely being breakfast but that is standard.”
He cringed when he saw the wrinkles. Well that couldn't be helped. And they were only going home anyhow. Bensen smiled. “Alright. I'll try. And do you need anything?”
“Just you to stop worrying about things.” She assured him quietly brushing a stray strand of hair out of her face. It was the only thing she could try and control right then and there.
He held up his hands in surrender. “I get it,” he promised before snagging another bite to eat. “No more worrying. But did you eat?”
“I did.” She promised as she packed up everything she could see that was left and sat down. “Your mother and sister insisted on breakfast together,” There had been a lot of teasing over the man being absent the morning after his wedding but the man did not need to know that.
He chuckled softly. “That sounds like them. They will make sure you take care of yourself.” He was glad his family was so se. close
“I hey have carried me this far.”
She pointed out looking over at him as Cadence blinked from between. “Hello you.” The harper greeted as the little fire lizard curled up on her lap.
Bensen chuckled. “Don't know what I'd do without them.” He smiled as Cadence appeared. “Is she hungry?” He asked, having enough to share.
“She shouldn’t be after her and Enabon’s queen eat a meat roll each.” The woman commented as Cadence looked at Bensen not at all embarrassed by what she had done.
Bensen laughed. “Well it sounds like they had both had a good breakfast then,” he commented, smiling at the little green.
“Shame it was from Enabon’s plate whilst he was eating.” The woman said, rolling her eyes at the annoyance of her brother in law when the pair had absconded with his food.
Bensen tried really hard not to laugh. “I would have loved to have seen that. I'm sure he wasn’t impressed.” He could just picture his brother.
“He was a little cross with Them both then realised his was flying so he couldn’t be cross with her.” The woman smiled. She knew the man made about of coin because of firelizard eggs.
Bensen did start to laugh then. “I should feel bad but I really don't. And good for you Cadence, sneaking a meatroll from him.”
“Do not encourage her.” The woman laughed now that it was just them. She shook her head as the fire lizard fluttered over to Bensen and nudged his hand.
He grinned impishly. It would have been fun to see his brother's reaction. “Sorry but he should have shared to begin with. Huh Cadence?” He asked the little green as he brushed her back. “Help yourself.”
The Green chirped and grabbed up a piece of meat that had fallen out of the meat roll. “Aren’t you a charmer?” The woman said laughing a little as she rubbed her stomach as she got the baby with their foot trapped against her rib for a moment.
Bensen grinned at his new wife. “Is that bad?” He asked innocently before cringing. “Are you okay?” He didn't like the sudden pained look on hed face.
“Not in the slightest…” She paused and shook her head as she realised that could be misconstrued as she was not okay. “The baby is kicking and has their foot trapped between my ribs.” She would have showed him but the corset made it hard.
Bensen cringed. “That sounds awful,” he said, wishing he could help but knowing he couldn't. “Does the baby do that often?”
“Sometimes. I am guessing there isn’t much room in there right now so they are making do.” The woman shrugged not really knowing it all herself if she was honest. Maybe she should check with a healer.
He felt for her. That sounded miserable. “Is there is anything I can do to help?” He asked. He knew he probably couldn't but he wanted to offer.
“Not in the slightest. You have done enough to help me for 24 candlemarks.” She teased as she slowly pushed herself up from the chair akwardly.
Bensen was instantly on his feet to help her up. “You know I don't mind helping you at all,” he assured her with a grin.
“I know.” She said accepting the help as he pulled her up and she stood up straight as she could. She smiled up at him. “But I have spent the last eight months being independent.” She reminded looking down at their joined hands.
He slowly nodded, his heart breaking. Rena never should have had to do that. “I know. And if I push too much just tell me to back off,” he said. Bensen wanted to do right by her.
Rena let go of his hand and cupped his cheek. ”I will. But this is the first day of us being married. You cannot do anything wrong right now I promise.” She assured trying to change the look in his eyes.
A warm smile touched his lips. “I like the sound of that.” As much as he missed his brother he was glad Rena was still in his life.
The woman opened her mouth to say more but a queen fire lizard came into the room and started squawking at them. “I believe they might be Enabon telling us to hurry. I will see you when we get home.” She said knowing she was setting off a little earlier as the rider was likely to fly straight.
Bensen looked over at the little gold. “I think so,” he chuckled, kissing her cheek. “Fly safe and I'll see you soon.”
The woman just smiled and nodded. She headed towards the door and stopped mid opening. “Safe skies.” She said thinking on what people said before they left for dragon flights.
