RCW: Working Things Out

Posted on Fri Dec 20th, 2024 @ 9:39pm by Lenya & Brown Rider K’yar

Mission: 3531 AL
Location: River Cove Weyr
Timeline: M2 D15

Lenya smiled as she watched T’mil disappear off like a lost little canine to his mate and shook her head. She was happy for him to say the least, the man was the sweetest man she had ever had the honour of knowing other than K’yar and deserved everything positive in his life. She smiled into her wine as she watched around the cavern more seeing groups and couples all having a good day, she would never have seen anything like this at Dragon Hold and it just made her happy to see it and know her life was so far removed from that all now. There was never any community at Dragon Hold just fear once the sun went down.

K'yar hated that his drills had been changed. As soon as he was finished he rushed back to the weyr only to find Lenya's note. Really? That was not what he expected. He changed quickly before heading for the dining cavern. The brown rider looked around, finally spotting his mate. “Well hello beautiful.”

“Hello, brown rider.” She greeted smiling at him. “Not quite as hot and sweaty as I expected.” She teased standing up to hug him as he reached her through the crowds. “I wanted to surprise you but your drills changed on me but I thought a candlemark or so by myself would be no issue. T’mil kept me company for a little bit.”

K'yar wrapped his arms around her. “Got changed quickly before coming down,” he admitted to why he wasn't so sweaty. “It was a good surprise. Was Kiyna happy?” He asked, glad they had a little time together. “T'mil huh? Haven't talked to him in a bit.”

She had gathered that he might have changed when she had seen F’cone earlier getting his own dinner. “She was excited to spend time with Lea. Terliyn promised there would be no issues and she certainly would not be going into labour tonight. Talomin just looked pale at her jokes.” Lenya smiled. “He said the same about you.” She answered wondering if something had gone on between the pair for a moment before she let go of the man and sat down offering him a mug of his own for wine. He would have told her if there had been she hoped.

“Poor Tal. That would not be a joke you want to hear your mate say,” he chuckled. “But I'm glad Kiy is happy and she gets to play with Lea for a bit.” He joined her at the table and accepted the wine. “Guess we've only really talked about drills lately and haven't had a chance to talk as friends in a while.”

Lenya smiled. She was sure that Terilyn was putting on such a bright and breezy attitude as she was worrying but she would be there for the woman if things went wrong or changed for her. She was just happy that Terliyn and Talomin seemed happy together despite what must be a stressful time for them both. “You should try. Things were awkward between me and him.” She admitted shrugging. “No idea why but maybe you will have a better chance of working it out.”

K'yar sipped on the wine she had poured. He had a feeling Kiyna would have all kinds of stories to tell once they picked her up. For now it would be nice to talk to Lenya. “Really? That's odd. I wonder why.” T'mil wasn't usually one to be that way. He got along with everyone. “I'll have to talk to him later.”

“It is most likely my fault.” She admitted. “I cut off a lot of people by disappearing off to Far Site for a little bit.” She admitted still feeling a little guilty around that period of her life and the people she had ran away from without communication.

“I'm sure no one holds that against you,” he pointed out. That was a time he wished he could forget but it would forever be inked in his mind just like the scar he had as a reminder. “No reason to worry about it right now.”

She hoped no one held it against her, she had needed that time to realise the Weyr was her home and she wanted to try with K’yar. “I know.” She let out a big sigh before taking a sip of her wine letting the tension out of her body out as she tried to move in.

The brown rider gave her a gentle smile. He knew she had been through a lot. He had been feeling the same but he hadn't been able to disappear. Not with Kylith. “It will take time but we're on the right track and no one blames you.”

The woman nodded quietly. She was not proud of it but she had needed for her sanity. “We are very much on the right track I hope. I really like this track.” She said grinning.

“I do too,” he grinned. It had been a hard time but he understood now. Maybe not when it was first happening but he was growing and now realized she had needed it.

“I bet.” She teased him knowing it was more than physical between them but it had been a big step for her to allow him close again without feeling like she was second best or an after thought.

K'yar smiled at his mate. It was nice to be able to tease each other again. It wasn't that long ago that he felt like they were walking on pins and needs. This was much better.

“So what would you like to do without Kiyna for the evening?” She asked having left it open so he could decide. He left a lot of things to her and she wanted for once to do something he wanted to do.

That felt like an odd thing to consider. They always had Kiyna with them. “Hmm Just spending time with you is perfect. We don't get to do that often.”

“Nope, which is why I asked Terliyn if she would mind. V’lik offered but I thought Kiyna would appreciate spending time with Lea more.” She admitted that she had put some thought into wanting some time alone with him without their daughter.

K'yar raised a brow. “You certainly had this all sorted out. I apologize I was a bit late with drills.” It would be nice to have some time together.

Lenya shook her head. “Not really I only had the idea this morning after you left for the day when I thought I knew your schedule but I am happy to just sit here and talk and maybe have a dance if the harpers play.” She tempted taking a sip of the wine turning on the bench to look at him better.

“I like the sound of that. We haven't danced in a long time,” he smiled. “Or gotten a chance to just talk and be us.” They were both busy quite a bit.

“Well you are a wingsecond now without a wingthird to back you up.” She teased him a little surprised at the growth he had been through since she had met him. ”and I am not busy. I am happy to just plod along in life where I am.” She had no desire to do much more at the moment other than keep a low profile and trying and keep moving forward.

The brown rider groaned. “Very true,” he agreed. Not having a wing third definitely put a lot of extra work on him. “There is nothing wrong with plodding along. I am quite happy to do that sometimes. And today I am definitely happy.”

She nodded. “Good because it is what I am doing. I am quite happy cleaning and pottering around helping Tula and the other women of the lower caverns.” She declared nursing her drink with a smile. Not everyone had to have the top job or be known by everyone.

K'yar figured that was a good way to get to know people too. “That is what matters. As long as you are happy,” he smiled. She looked happy.

“I am. I feel at peace I suppose. I have not felt like that in many turns.” She had worries but they pales in comparison to things she had come up against recently.

“Good. You should feel safe here. I never want you to have to worry again.” K'yar reached across the table to squeeze her hand gently.

“Everyone has worries, my love.” She reminded him. “But I do not have to worry that I will be stolen in my sleep or if I ever have any children they will be taken from me.” She turned her hand over to weave her fingers through his.

She was right but everyday worries he could deal with. It was the others he was glad were through. “I am definitely grateful those worries at gone.” He was surprised to hear her mention children. They hadn't talked about that since before Kiyna.

Lenya was more than relieved, it had possibly saved her life in all honest and their relationship. She could not have done another turn with it, she would have had to go north or something to escape it all. “What?” She wondered seeing the surprised look on his face.

K'yar inwardly cringed, having not realized he had a made a face. “I was just thinking we haven't mentioned anything about children since before Kiy was born,” he admitted.

“Well… I mean it has been one of the reasons I have not wanted to come close to you but it might not even be possible but I take moontea.” Lenya looked away shrugging as she took a deep gulp of the wine. She had not meant to get so deep suddenly it had just been a comment on her worries.

He nodded. They really didn't know if it was possible but he had still been surprised she had mentioned it. “Sorry. Think i just read too much into a simple statement.”

Lenya shook her head putting her mug down and leant across the table. “No no no these are the questions and discussions we need to have but I didn’t mean to go that deep I was just speaking. I am comfortable and thoughts just come out of my head especially with wine.” She said quietly, trying to explain her thoughts to him properly. “Come and sit over here?” She tempted patting her side of the table.

K'yar laughed a bit. “Okay yeah I understand that. Wine does that,” he smiled. He pushed out of his seat and moved to sit next to her. “you’re right. We do need these talks.”

Lenya did not want him holding back. She wanted him comfortable enough to ask the questions and to get her answers. “We do because this is how it all started. I was terrified of being pregnant again and having your mother and others come after me. I wanted to keep Kiyna safe as well as I just did not want people touching me after so many did without my permission. I was exhausted.” She sighed, turning a little to look at him as she spoke. She needed this to get it all off her chest properly.

The brown rider listened quietly. He knew she had been through a lot and he knew his mother was a monster. He just hadn't stopped to consider how she really felt. “I can't even begin to imagine. I am so glad things are better now.”

“Because you are a man. A very gorgeous and handsome man but still a man.” She stroked his cheek to soften her comment. Men had it easier when Dragon Hold was concerned and there was no denying. She didn’t hold it against him at all but for a long time she could not bare anyone touching her, even the healers trying to help her.

“I can not change that one,” he smiled, closing his eyes at her gentle touch. “But I know what you mean. I saw what happened there.” He knew the men had it easier. He just wished there was more he could do.

She smiled at the way he responded to her touch and waited till he opened his eyes until she spoke again. “And it was not a reflection on you. I just could not have anyone apart from Kiyna touching me.” She explained gently pulling her hand back to wrap around her mug. “But I am sorry that I never explained anything to you. I should have done that. It might have helped us but I was ashamed of it all.”

K'yar nodded slowly. “I get that now. I did think I had done something wrong in the beginning but I don't blame you for not saying anything. It was a lot.” Things were definitely starting to make more sense now.

“The whole situation was a lot.” She said quietly glancing to where the Harpers were starting to tune up instruments. “But we are here and I love you and I am sorry I put you through 3 turns of chaos but thank you for not giving up when you came to your senses when I had.”

“It was but I couldn't imagine life without you. I love you too and I'll never give up on us.” K'yar couldn't see himself anywhere else.

Lenya just smiled at him and nodded returning for a moment to her people watching. It was allowing her to learn a lot about the weyr again and the fact this was truly where she wanted to be out in the open with people, not hiding away or leaving. It was most likely what had made her worse as she had isolated herself.

K'yar sipped at his wine. This was nice. Just being able to sit here together with no worries. And he loved watching Lenya especially when she looked so happy
