Halia had woken up with the worst feeling of nausea that she had ever experienced in the morning since the sensation had started last month. She was relieved as climbed out of bed and ran that it was S’lei’s dawn watch and even more so that he had drills after she had heaved into the toilet for the third time. She had nothing left but her body was refusing to listen to what she was saying. Moni appeared out of between chittering away to Halia but she did not have the energy to answer as her stomach rolled again. She sighed as the sensation left but he was huddled on the floor feeling sorry for herself.

Tanly quietly walked towards her brother's weyr. He had mentioned in passing that Halia hadn't been feeling well so Tanly had promised to stop by and check on her while he was at drills. She soon reached their weyr and knocked. “Halia?” She called softly when the other woman didn't answer.

Halia groaned as her stomach kept rolling despite her not having eaten anything since lunch time yesterday thanks to a busy day so she knew after the few bout of nausea and sickness she had nothing. “I am too sick Tan.” Halia called as she heard the woman in the distance but Moni had other ideas and swooped out to the Green Rider showing her Halia huddled in the bathroom looking quite sorry for herself.

Tanly frowned a bit when she could barely hear Halia. Then Moni showed up in front of her and she groaned. That wasn't good. Tanly stepped into the weyr without invitation and headed for the bathroom. “Oh Halia,” she whispered when she saw her friend.

Halia winced as she heard the woman coming closer and sighed. Moni was the biggest snitch she knew if it was not S’lei it was his sister. “Why do you and your brother never listen?” She demanded weakly leaning her head back.

Tanly knelt beside her friend. “We might listen if we really believed you but you don't look so good,” she said gently. “Have you seen the healers?””

Halia shook her head which only set off the dizziness so she turned away from Tanly feeling a bit disgusting. “It was on my to-do list for today though. You mate… did he tell you his suspicions?” She demanded taking slow breaths to try and avoid another bout of sickness.

The green rider shook her head as she moved to get a cool compress for Halia’s face. “He didn't. S'lei was the one worried about you and asked if i would stop by and check on you since he was going to be gone so long today.”

As the flannel was put on her face she sighed with relief. It really helped when she felt so clammy and disgusting. “Thank you.” She whispered, holding it against her face covering her eyes as Moni settled into her lap. “He thinks I am pregnant.” Halia revealed.

Tanly sat down beside Halia, keeping the cloth gently in place. She was surprised by the woman's next words but then smiled. “That would explain how you are feeling right now,” she answered. “I felt like that with the twins.” She tried not to think of the couple she had lost.

The harper could feel the happiness radiating from the woman. “I was hoping for illness.” She admitted feeling a little guilty for feeling like that now that she was confronted by Tanly. She knew how the woman longed for another child with I’han

“Really?” Tanly asked. “Did you and S'lei not want children? I know not everyone does.” She wished she could have more but it seemed like after the twins she kept losing any other baby. Tanly pressed her lips together. “There are ways,” she said softly.

“He said he did not want any and then changed his mind but I continued taking precautions or at least I thought I took it daily but I must have messed up somewhere. I just don’t want to lose him or mess him around.” She sighed, taking the flannel from her face and looked at him. “I know but I do not if I even am.” She said still trying to kid herself a little.

“Halia, you're not going to lose him no matter what you choose. He loves you. I can see it in his face every time he looks at you.” She reached over to brush Halia’s hair out of her face. “You don't have to make any decisions right now. But I really think a healer is needed. I could have one sent here so you don't have to move,” she offered.

”Thank you. I just don’t want to treat him how he was before.” Halia nodded thinking that she needed a healer even to stop the sickness a little so she could crawl back to bed. “Please.” She requested as she slowly dragged up to her feet and stopped there testing the waters to see if her body could cope.

Tanly nodded, having Cadalayith pass the message on. She quickly moved to help her friend. “Here lean on me. Cad let the healers know. And don't worry. S'lei loves you.,”

Halia tried not to lean on the woman but it was impossible as she took a step. She gripped the rider's arm and took a deep breath. “I am a mess.” The healer sighed in relief and sat on her bed and shakily grabbed her mug of juice and took a sip to get rid of the taste.

“It's okay,” Tanly soothed, helping her over to the bed. “I've been there. Can I get you anything while we wait for the healer?” She didn't like seeing Halia so sick. Hopefully the healer hurried.

“No. I am just going to sit here and not move.” She felt like she was frozen as she was worried she would start the sickness off again if she moved. There was a bang on the door and not even a moment later Nikolai’s voice rang out.

“Tan?” He called confused.

Tanly nodded. She was sure sitting still was the best. She got to her feet when she heard the pounding followed by Nikolai's voice.

“Here,” she answered, walking out to meet him.

“You look fine? So not you.” He questioned as the door was opened. He was not entirely sure what was going on but he came in and followed the green rider until he saw Halia.

Tanly shook her head. “Not me. I am perfectly healthy,” she promised her old friend. Poor Nikolai had been through a lot with her. “Halia on the other hand.”

“Journeywoman Halia?” He wondered. He glanced around realising this must be S’lie’s weyr. “You look like you have been fighting thread for the first time .” He said, making Halia raise an eyebrow. “They throw up and look pale 7/10 times.”

“Certainly got the throwing up part correct.” She sighed as the man crouched in front of her and started to take her heart rate via her wrist.

Tanly stepped back out of the way. She did feel bad she had scared Nikolai, but at least he was there now. She cringed a bit. She didn't miss those mornings at all.

“Racing heart.” He said softly looking her over properly now he was closure.

“I might be pregnant,” Halia admitted softly.

“Can you like down and I can confirm if you want.” He offered softly. Halia looked at him and slowly moved to lie down relieved that she was wearing shorts and a vest top to bed, this was embarrassing enough.

Tanly pressed her lips together. She felt bad for her friend as Halia looked nervous and embarrassed all at the same time. She knew that feeling. Although Nikolai had been her healer and friend for so long now that it didn’t really matter to her.

Nikolai just smiled and waited patiently for her to settle down before he gently crouched next to the bed and leaned out to press against her stomach. It took a few moments before he looked up at her and smiled. “Congratulations. You are about a month or so along, Journeywoman.”

Tanly wanted to be excited for her friend and brother but she wasn't sure if Halia wanted that or not. She knew S'lei would be thrilled. “Welcome to morning sickness,” she smiled in sympathy .

“But I can help with that.” Nikolai assured offering a hand to help her sit up slowly to avoid quick movement.

“Believe me he can,” Tanly smiled. Nikolai had helped her through a lot. She just hoped the morning sickness didn't last long for Halia.

Halia took the welcome hand up and nodded. “Thank you Journeyman.” She said politely. She had never really had much experience of knowing Nikolai until now so the pair of them were far more formal about things than she had seen him be before.

“I will send something up with an apprentice as soon as possible but drink so you keep hydrated in this heat and try and eat something once you feel able and if it continues longer than a few candlemarks throughout the day or you feel unable to face eating past tomorrow morning I want you in the infirmary.” He stated clearly and calmly relieved that Tanly was there as she knew what to expect.

Tanly listened to the instructions, nodding a bit. She knew that routine well. “Anything I can do to help?”

“I’ll send Moni down soon.” The blue looked up and crooned softly. He looked proud to be called on to help his. He hated seeing her so pale and sickly.

“I'll stay with you until S'lei gets back,” the green rider offered. She didn't want to leave her friend and she wasn't sure Halia was ready to be alone.

Nikolai nodded and squeezed Tanly’s shoulder as he escaped the weyr to get the stuff sorted for her. He did not envy the conversations that were going to be happening with Halia. He had seen that reaction before. “I will be okay if you have duties and stuff. I was just going to sleep I think.” She admitted rubbing her eyes.

The green rider flashed Nikolai a smile. She didn't blame him for rushing out. She then turned to Halia. “nope nowhere to be,” she answered cheerily. “So you're stuck with me.”

The harper looked a little confused with that notion but decided hanging out in the bedroom was most likely not appropriate so slowly got up. “Come on then.” She said shifting over to the sofa sitting down on it pulling the fur around her.

She slowly followed Halia out. Hopefully the other woman would fall asleep and be able to get some rest. “You'll start feeling better after Niko gets that medicine sent up.”

Halia nodded, leaning her head back. She was sure that she would feel better soon. “Let’s hope so.” She whispered wrinkling her nose at the taste in her mouth. It was not at all a pleasant experience.

Tanly felt for her. She had gone through the same thing every time she had been pregnant. “If you have any questions feel free to ask. I've been where you are right now.”

“It feels a little strange asking them when I have not told S’lei properly yet.” She admitted. “But I would love to talk properly afterwards.” She said leaning out softly, taking her hand squeezing it. “Thank you for being my f… sister.”

The green rider nodded. “I completely understand.” S'lei deserved to know. “And I'll be around. I'll stay here til either you fall asleep or S'lei gets back,” Tanly said gently, giving her a smile.

“Thank you.” She was relieved despite how embarrassed she felt but the woman being there was exactly what she had needed. The woman nodded and snuggled up a little on the couch. She wanted to stay away but it was impossible once her head hit the pillow.

Tanly stayed a bit longer, making sure she was asleep. She would stay as long as she needed to. If that was all day then so be it.
