Rosen had taken a lot longer than he had liked to get to sleep but with several books and a story from his head, V’ros finally stepped back out into the living area of the weyr and got to just watch his mate sat on the couch in her own thoughts still. She had been like that over dinner and he had not said anything but now they were alone without a child who listened to everything that was said in front of him. “Mark for your thoughts?” He wondered quietly as he moved to sit close to her and leaned out to touch her arm.
Analees knew she wasn’t really herself but at the moment she couldn't quite help herself. Rosan had enjoyed getting to spend time with his father and she had been happy about that. She startled just a bit when V'ros touched her arm. “I'm not sure where my thoughts are right now honestly,” she admitted.
V’ros raised and eyebrow. He had homework to do but it could wait for now as he realised that she needed to get things out of her head. “So let's talk about it. Get all those thoughts out and then you can tell me if you just need to vent or need help.” He offered.
She shook her head a bit, not really sure where to start. “There is just so much to think about now. I mean I can pick a craft to study. Or spend the day with my son and not worry about anything. It's just so much.”
“So start with one thing what did you want to be as a child?” He asked starting there as it was the logical question and one he asked candidates if they were on the hatching ground and getting close to 18 turns and not being able to impress. “I wanted to be a Smith.” He said giving over what he thought he was going to be as a child In a cot hold but obviously, he had impressed at 12.
“A Smith? Really? That would have been interesting.” Analees thought for a minute. What did she want to be a child? free for one but that wasn't a good answer. “Hmm I've always liked being with children and helping,” she admitted.
“Yes a smith. I enjoyed the role. My father was a journeyman smith. So it was part of my day until I was searched.” He said closing his eyes for a moment and smiled that sometimes with the firestone that it smelt like he was in the smith. He shook the thought away not having thought on his family in years. “Then why do you not speak to a harper and help with the teaching of the younglings?”
“I didn't realize,” she answered. “That must have been nice. I never really knew my parents,” she admitted. They had both disappeared when she and Anious were young which was why the two always looked out for each other. “Oh, I had never thought about being a Harper.”
“It was a long time again.” The man soothed pressing a kiss to her temple as a glow went out behind them. He was meant to have replaced that earlier but had forgotten as Analees had joined him for his morning routine. “Harpera are the cultural and educational authority, guiding the moral and historical traditions of Pern and not just the music. And who else would be amazing to remind Pern of the dangers of Dragon Hold so that it never happens again,” He offered to her as a rationale. “Or you could look after the children in the Weyr who are too young for Harper lessons.”
She giggled as the glow went out. Well it just set the mood. Analees nodded. She did know that but she really hadn't ever spent time with a Harper. maybe when she was really tiny. Before everything went bad. “Hmm maybe i'll talk to the Harper and see where I am needed more. Oh I can definitely tell them how not to be,” she grinned.
V’ros shook his head and rolled his eyes. “You can be whatever you want to be Ana.” He encouraged. “You do not need to hold yourself back.” He carried on hoping that she would do what she needed to do to thrive again. He wanted her happy.
The young woman nodded a bit. “I am working on believing that,” she assured him. “Many Turns to work through but you have made that easier and now have given me another option to look into.” She was definitely going to talk to the Weyr harper. She was very curious now.
“I know it will not be an easy change Ana but I am here and I am proud of you.” He could not think of anyone stronger to have come out of the place. “So are all your friends here too.” He smiled thinking of all the connections she had made with people who would be more than willing to help her move forward.
“Thank you. Never thought I would hear words like that.” She was definitely ready to make a change. And she knew V'ros would be there beside her. She grinned. “I can't believe I actually have friends and ones that don't expect anything.” in the Weyr she was sure she could start again.
He nodded. “This is what most places are like outside of what was created by M’nor and … Anious.” He tried to not bring up her brother often as they really did not know what had happened to him as he was never found but his point still stood - most places were not like Dragon hold. “My words are my honour.” He smiled and caressed her cheek leaning his head against her forehead.
Analees closed her eyes briefly. As twisted as he was she still missed her brother. They had been there for each other through thick and thin and he had never been cruel to her til Delik had come. “And I definitely like this much better,” she agreed. “Hearing a kind word really makes things better.”
Everyone needed kind words, it was how people thrived and grew. Negative words brought people down and created a place like Dragon Hold. “You will have at least one kind word from me a day. Like did I tell you earlier how beautiful you looked?” He wondered caressing her lips as she opened her eyes again after he had mentioned her brother before pressing his lips to hers.
“Mmm I like that sound of that,” she purred, leaning into his gentle kiss. She knew he hadn't meant to upset her and really she should let it go. There was nothing she could do but move forward and she had friends and family now. Ones that wouldn't just use her.
“Get used to it.” He instructed firmly before smiling at her and the look on her face. “Every day I promise but for now let’s go to the bed chamber seeing I forgot to change the glow.” He shook his head in the semi-darkness. “I have some hidework to do.” He grumbled. He either had to do it there or go to the weyrlingmasters office.
“That is something I can definitely get used to.” She bit back a giggle when he mentioned the glow. It did make it hard to do a whole lot. “Hidework? Well in that case we better change that glow cause I'm not letting you leave.”
“I can do the work in the bed chamber if you do not mind a low glow?” He said not enjoying the idea of fumbling around in the dark to sort it out. “You can read a book if you are not ready for bed? But I do need to do the wing schedule for fall in two days.” He said sadly. This would be the moment to throw away the hidework and just have a moment but he had no time for it at any other time.
Analees leaned up and playfully nibbled on his neck. “Oh I'm not planning on going to bed yet, “ she assured him. “You finish your wing schedule. I'll be waiting.” She knew he had important things to do and she would patiently for him.
“Stop it.” He whispered scoping her up taking her into the bedroom dumping her on the bed lightly before he moved to the desk area in the corner turning the glow on higher. He grinned over and watched her settling down for the night. He was so lucky to have a woman who was patient with him because sometimes he was not that at all.
