You Are Just Letting Her Leave?

F’cone frowned as she listened to what Kanoth was telling him about Kalaith, Tyreth and Naedeth going north for some reason. He had no idea what was going on and why those three would be going to another Weyr but he was going to demand answers from A’ren. Since their right in the weyrbowl when F’cone had been Weyrleader instead of A’ren, F’cone had made sure that if he was approaching the Weyrleader he did it in the open as he boded well for them both. They both had the pressure of their respective positions and how the Weyr perceived them.

“Weyrleader.” F’cone called as he watched Quartz wing return from sweeps.

Sweeps had gone without a hitch. A'ren still wasn't crazy about the northern trip but at least he felt more confident with the other two riders with her. Zarminath landed with a light puff of dust as F’cone strode toward them.

“What is it, Wingleader?” He asked, sliding down his bronze’s shoulder.

F’cone looked away as the dust rose around him for a second. He was not sure if the Weyrleader’s dragon did that on purpose but it would not surprise him after the last couple of turns. Dragon held grudges despite there shirt term memory. “I want to talk about Kalaith, Tyreth and Naedeth going North. The Dragons talk.” F’cone said quietly so none of the wing riders could hear.

A'ren pulled his helmet and gloves off, stuffing his gloves in his belt. Zarminath just waited patiently. “Okay what do you want to talk about?” He asked, glancing at Zarminath with a frown. Sharding dragons for talking.

“Why are they going North?” He demanded, getting straight to the point. He could understand the bronze riders but why was Lana going North? It was not at all normal for a Weyrwoman to go to another Weyr like that, especially one that technically did not have an of age senior pair.

A'ren should have known something like this would happen. The dragons did talk. “Lana has some things she wants to check into and northern Weyrs have older hides than we do,” he answered simply. He didn't like it any better then F'cone did but he couldn't let that show.

“You are letting our Weyrwoman. Go to a Weyr without a Weyrwoman?” F’cone demanded quietly. He could not wrap his mind around that at all which was why he wanted to discuss it with the only man who could give him the answers.

“Not alone,” A’ren assured him. He wasn't that wherryheaded. Although he still didn't like it either. He just couldn't let F'cone know that. “And they have a Weyrwoman. She is just young right now.”

F’cone frowned. “She is 14. She’s turns away from being of age.” F’cone was not taking this lying down. It was why most Weyr’s out older women on the hatching grounds for queens eggs. “Why not send me with them? Why V’ros and K’ron?” He asked finally not seeing why those 2 were being sent.

It was true. The Weyrwoman of High Reaches was extremely young. It still surprised him that a gold chose one so young. “You think you can do something that they can't or won't do if they have to protect their Weyrwoman?” A'ren asked curiously. “And we have our reasons for those two going.”

F’cone looked at the man and nodded. They both knew he was a lot darker than A’ren. “Yes.” The man said simply. Him and A’ren would never see eye to eye around anything other than Lana’s safety was paramount.

The Weyrleader frowned. “And that is exactly why you are staying here,” he said. He knew F'cone would keep her safe, but he might also cause tension between the Weyrs. That is not something he was willing to chance.

F’cone sighed softly. He had thought that he might have been able to play to the man’s love for Lana to be able to speak to her and work out what was going on with her suddenly. “I hope it’s worth it, A'ren.” F’cone said looking him over trying to work out why the older man would change text after all these turns.

“You and me both,” he said softly. A'ren still hated it but he couldn't let F'cone know that. And he also couldn't exactly give the actual reason they were going north. Not to mention why it was V'ros and K'ron going.

F’cone frowned looking at the man trying to work him out more. “I do not understand this at all, Weyrleader.” He said simply looking frustrated.

“I know you don't,” A'ren said. “Unfortunately at the moment there isn't much more I can say. Just know that the Weyrwoman and I have talked about this extensively and taken all the precautions we can.”

F’cone growled. He really did not like this at all. Lana was not meant to be going something like this. Whatever was going on had to be big because Lana had not gone to another Weyr without A’ren or himself even at the worst points of the issues with Dragon Hold.

A'ren knew he didn't have to explain himself but he was going to have to talk to Lana and decide how to explain this. If F'cone was asking then he had no doubt other riders were wondering the same thing.

“I will ask Lana about this before she leaves.” He assured. F’cone shook his head and whirled away on his heels. He was going to have to find a way to speak to Lana about this. Surely he could find a way to pin her down to have a conversation.

A'ren growled under his breath. This was just great. He should have known this wouldn't go well.
