Kalaith swooped into the weyr with her rider eager to climb down. Lana quickly relieved the queen of her straps and watched her go to her mate nuzzling him. Lana smiled and decided to herself go in search of her mate looking happy as she carried 2 new pairs of googles. She quickly found her mate drinking wine in the living area and looking frustrated. She raised an eyebrow not used to him drinking wine this early in the afternoon. “Hello Weyrleader.” She leaned against the wall.

Zarminath crooned when he saw the gold returning. He nuzzled her back as Kaliath joined him on their couch. A'ren looked up when Lana spoke, wine glass still in hand as he twirled it around but the stem. “Hello,” he answered a bit distracted.

Lana could see how distracted he was and she had not seen him like that for a very long time. “Mark for your thoughts?” She wondered as she started to strip out of her flight gear whilst standing there.

A'ren blinked a bit, finally coming back to his senses. “Sorry love. Had a slight run in with F'cone this afternoon,” he admitted. It still had him a bit on edge and uncertain what to do now.

Lana stopped mid pulling her trousers down and stood up straight looking confused. “Whatever for?” She demanded wondering what had caused the 2 riders to have a run in after a turn of having agreement or whatever they had come to.

He took a sip of his wine as he thought about how to answer. “Apparently the dragons have been talking. He wants to know why you are going North and why we are sending K'ron and V'ros and not himself.”

“Because he would upset High Reaches leadership in under a candlemark…again.” Lana slipped off her flight trousers and came over to sit next to him pouring herself a glass. “And that’s before you either think on him not knowing the current issues and the fact I really do not want him there trying it on. I want to move on from him and the memories of the poisoning.” She sighed a little.

The Weyrleader nodded a bit. That was true. F'cone wasn't the most diplomatic. “Yes you are very right. I just told him we had our reasons. I'm sure that won't keep him happy though,” he sighed as he looked up at her. This was certain a mess.

“So what you are trying to say is expect a visitor?” Lana wondered looking back at him waiting for him to say what was on his mind. The Weyrleader had better have thought to get 2 glasses, she decided as she got out of her boots and stood there in her underwear looking hot and flustered.

“Pretty much,” A'ren answered. “He doesn't think I should be letting you go and he plans on talking to you.” The Weyrleader got up to get the second glass of wine for his mate. He turned, surprised by how flustered she looked. “You okay?”

“Yeah. Just hot. I flew straight to Smith Hall.” She admitted reluctantly as she grabbed up her new googles and put them on the dining table.

“Oh that would do it,” he agreed. The Smith Hall was hot not counting the weather itself. “Oh your goggles are done. That's great,” he said, handing the glass to her.

She had just wanted to get out, Kalaith and Lana had both needed to spread their wings. “They gave me 2. Did you arrange that?” She wondered quietly as she took the glass with a kiss to his chin of thanks.

“Maybe,” he smiled. “Hopefully you never need to use the second pair.” that had scared him. “And you're welcome. Did you have a good flight?”

“This is why I love you. You think of everything when I do not know,” Lana said, rubbing her thumb along his jaw. “Nice to stretch out our wings.” Lana said softly. She took a sip of the wine and looked at it confused that it was northern and not southern but did not comment. Wine was wine right then and there.

“Good to know,” he chuckled. Although they did make a good team. Which was probably what the dragons saw. “It's nice to fly straight sometimes,” he agreed, sipping more of his wine. “Be sure you dress extra warm when you head north.”

Lana smiled and shook her head. He knew that already she hoped after seven turns of knowing each other as intimately as they did. It was why just stood there in her underwear, she just felt calm and relaxed. “I enjoyed it. Kalaith wanted to hunt but I assured her Far Site would not be impressed with losing Herd Beasts.” Lana chuckled. “I will. I do remember what it is like when we go to council meetings.” She grinned a little more at him.

“Ooh yes we do not want to have to explain that to Lord Oben,” he agreed. He grinned as he turned to face her better. “A little cold?” He teased, not having realized she had stripped down to her underwear.

“Especially as it looked like his prized breeding stock.” Lana said giggling as he realised finally taking her in. “Hot… absolutely boiling. Forgot how hot Southern summers are somehow.” She admitted with a shrug as she grinned at him.

“Definitely don't want to touch those then.” Oben and his family would have a fit. He shook his head as he pulled her onto his lap. “I see that.”

Kalaith was still grumbling over not getting to hunt and having to settle on a herd beast from the Weyr. Lana smiled as he sat back down and pulled her down onto him. “I bet.” She grinned putting her glass down and wrapped an arm around his neck.

Zarminath crooned softly at the gold, hoping to make her feel better. “I still can't believe you forgot how hot the summers are,” he teased, looking into her eyes. This was much better than being cornered by F’cone.

“Been cooped up in the cool records room.” The Weyrwoman reminded him softly. She smiled looking away from his gaze to play with his hair. His gaze was intense and left her feeling shy suddenly. “Also been a very long time since I have just gone out and just flown.”

“Then we need to get you out more, Weyrwoman,” he whispered as she played with his hair. They didn't get enough time like this together. “We should all take the time to do that,” A'ren answered, his hand running down her leg.

“Says the one who has not taken a break from sweeps and drills in a sevenday.” She murmured, turning to look at him again as his voice was nothing more than a whisper. She smiled a little. “You are looking at me in that way that says that you are about to prove just how yours I am.” She laughed.

A'ren laughed. “True enough.” He should listen to his own words. a warm smile touched his lips. “Oh I plan on doing just that, Weyrwoman.”

Lana raised an eyebrow at him wondering just what had been said between A’ren and F’cone to spiral him into this type of mood. He was not the possessive type of man which had caused a few issues over the turns together when Lana had been spiteful to him for his lack of it. “A’ren? What is going on?” She wondered aloud.

He leaned back in his chair, looking a bit lost and frustrated. Had he messed up and not even realized it? A'ren shook his head. “Just tired of having my orders questioned,” he finally said. “Does he not think if it was something I could tell him I would?” He was just frustrated with this whole northern trip.

“No because he F’cone and used to being in the loop. He does not like being on the outside.” The woman commented using him leaning back to straddle his lap properly and to take his face in her hands. “This cannot just be F’cone A’ren. He doesn’t get under your skin like this.”

A'ren slowly looked up at his mate. “No it's not F'cone. What really worries me is he voiced all the same concerns I still have. I am trying to not dwell on those worries and know you will be safe. Hence why you are taking V'ros and K'ron. I think just getting it thrown back in my face put me on edge.”

“Shards…” Lana let go of his face and ran her hands down his shoulders and to his arms. “You and F’cone on the same hidepage. This is an important moment in our lives.” She said lightly.

The Weyrleader groaned. “Yeah not sure how good that is,” he frowned. He looked up at his mate. “Does that mean I am losing my mind?”

“No.” The woman assured softly. She did not like that A’ren felt like that. She wanted to spend their last day without tension over her forcing him to make this choice. “But it does mean your feelings are … they are not wrong. How can I make you feel better?”

He shook his head a bit. “Just come home safe,” he answered. “You know I would be there with you if I could.” That bothered him too, but with things going on they didn't need both of them gone at the same time.

“I know.” Lana sighed and leaned in and pressed her lips to him. It was a hard kiss but she hoped it conveyed just how she felt. “I will always come home to you, Weyrleader.” She breathed.

Her kiss stopped him from arguing anymore. They trusted each other and he had just had to remind himself. “I know you will,” he gasped out, smiling up at her. “And those two going with you know they better bring you home safely,” he added, smiling to show he was kidding.

“Send whoever you want but I will always come home to you. I just need answers to why we are struggling with shifting patterns and lack of candidates.” She said quietly rolling her eyes as she pushed on his chest to move to stand up.

“I understand. That's why I finally caved,” he smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist. “And where do you think you're off to?”

Lana froze at the sound of his voice and the way he wrapped around her. “I was going to clean up for dinner.” She whispered.

He looked up at her and grinned. “And if I don't want to let you go?” He teased her.

“Then I guess I can stay here a little longer.” She answered, grinning at the way his arms stayed around her. “Aren’t you a little possessive today?” She wondered.

“Yes I am,” he laughed, not at all upset about that. “And what do you plan to do about it?”

Lana raised an eyebrow at him as if to say huh. “A’ren it was one of my issues last turn. I want that sometimes.” She chuckled at him. She had wanted him to always be like that towards her, she wanted someone to boss her around a little.

“I know. And I'm trying,” he promised, his arms still wrapped around her. There were things he was still learning and working on. Some he was doing better with then others.

“So I am going to do absolutely nothing.” She whispered softly to him and laughed as she pressed closer, loving how his warm skin was against hers. It was one of her favourite things on Pern, she loved waking up and have him there. “I wanted you to take charge. I wanted you to want me.”

He leaned up and kissed her hard. “Oh I most definitely want you. That time away from you nearly killed me.” When he had thought about transferring for Arianna’s health it had broken his heart in two.

Lana moaned into the kiss and nodded. Time apart from each other had literally nearly killed her but she was not going to bring it up. She clutched him hard to her as she kissed him back. “Do not think about it.” She whispered breathless.

A'ren growled in pleasure. “Forgotten,” he whispered. At least for the time being. He didn't want to think about anything but his time with his mate.
