By the fourth day K'ron couldn't lay anymore. He still felt sick and not strong at all, but he had to move. Even if it was just a couple of steps. Not to mention he needed to check on his wing.
Koda chittered worriedly at him as the bronze rider gripped his arm to his chest and got to wobbly feet. “Hush,” he shushed his little brown. “I'm okay.”
):Liar,:( Tyreth grumbled. ):You are still in pain.:( K'ron ignored his bronze.
Nerlyn came around the corner when she spotted the man out of bed on shaking feet and rolled her eyes. She quickly rushed forward and looped her around his good side “Where are we going?” She wondered quietly not pushing him to get back to bed as she was happy to see him up but he would do himself injury without support.
K'ron looked up in surprise when Nerlyn slipped under his arm. “Can't lay anymore,” he said quietly, his arm still held firmly against his chest. It hurt badly to move but he had to do something, anything really.
“Okay, so where are we going?” Nerlyn asked so they had a firm plan. She could support him despite height and weight difference but she needed to know where they were going so she could back him up if Nikolai or Thalia saw them.
The bronze rider shook his head slowly. He hadn't planned that far ahead. “Need to check on my wing,” he answered. “Our weyr?” He suggested, knowing he could get hide work there.
“Your office. It is closer.” She said smirking as a thought hit her despite her wet hair and exhaustion from Dolphineer duty and then rushing back to make sure K’ron was okay. “Oh, how the times have change Bronze Rider. I think this makes me the better mate. I am aiding the escape whilst you did not.” She laughed a little as they got into the familiar corridor that would lead to the inner workings of the Weyr.
“Office works,” he agreed. K'ron just wanted out of the infirmary. Even though he was sure it was going to get him in trouble. “That is a…change,” he agreed. He didn't like it. not that he minded Nerlyn’s help, but he hated being injured.
“Not sure I like being this side of things,” Nerlyn said as she pushed him in front so he could use his good arm to steady himself on the rail. “Do not fall backwards.” She requested. “You will take me out.” She teased a little knowing she was a lot more solid than she looked but still, if he went on the stairs he might drag her with him.
“I do not like it either,” he agreed. He gasped softly when he hit the steps. The new movement was not good on his arm. “I'll try not to,” he promised, leaning on the ng. railing
Nerlyn smiled as they made slow progress up the stairs until the door at the top opened and S’ven stuck his head out wide eyes before he glanced back and muttered something. A brown rider appeared alongside looping his good arm around him. “I believe you have escaped the infirmary?” G’len said quietly as he jogged down to help the man up the stairs whilst being unsure if this was wide.
K'ron hated how long it took to get up the stairs and how much pain it put him in. He had never really realized how much. He used his shoulder. He glanced up at S'ven and nodded gratefully to G’len. “Had to get out for a bit,” the bronze rider answered.
G’len was not at all convinced that the man had just needed to get out when they had only know each other a few sevendays and he had been thrust in control of the wing with thread tomorrow.
“We could have come to you if you were worrying Sir.” S’ven commented gently as he moved several files from the couch so the man could be sat there. Neither had sat at the desk feeling it was disrespectful but Nerlyn had no issue sitting there.
K'ron collapsed to the couch with a slight groan as he jostled his shoulder. Oh Nikolai and Thalia were going to have his head for this. “I know but…I wanted to come,” he answered. He needed to make sure everything was going okay and ready for Thread.
“Actions have consequences, my love.” Nerlyn commented highly amused by how the roles had been reversed. S’ven snorted at the tone but knew under her facade Nerlyn was waiting for him to heal up to kill him herself. G’len raised an eyebrow at Nerlyn not knowing her at all other than passing greetings.
K'ron narrowed his eyes at his mate. She was enjoying this a little too much. He held his arm tightly to his chest as he looked at the other two riders. “How are things….looking for Fall tomorrow?”
Nerlyn just stared back as she leaned back in the chair and crossed her legs. “Absolutely fine. We have two weyrlings joining us to make up for your absence. They are both the ones who you picked last sevenday.” G’len had invited them both to the last 2 days of drills to quickly get the blue and brown involved and they had both fitted straight in. “Drills went well the last 2 days. Reports for you to read.” The northern rider said formally. He was still trying to chill out a little from Igen’s way of doing things but River Cove was certainly appealing to him.
The bronze rider nodded as he listened to the report. He really hated being out of action like this and it was hard to sit back and let others take over. “Sounds like you have it in hand,” he said, gently massaging his arm.
“Of course we do. You taught us well.” S’ven commented as Nerlyn grabbed the first aid kit from the shelf and found what she was looking for. She shifted over and crouched in front of her mate with held out the bandage and set to work making a sling for him.
K'ron smiled a bit. He should have known they would have it under control. He winced though as Nerlyn shifted his arm to tie the sling on. “ouch,” he said softly. “And you guys let me know if you have any questions or concerns.”
Nerlyn rolled her eyes at the soft ouch but continued. She was not going to go into the fact of if he had stayed where he had been needed to be he would not be in quite as much pain. “We will but it is not needed Sir. I have things under control until you are back properly.” G’len assured running a hand through his hair as he watched Nerlyn carefully, really not sure what to make of her.
K'ron growled at his mate. He knew what she was thinking but he had to make sure. Shs should know that by now. “Thank you both. I know you can handle it.”
Nerlyn just looked at him impassively as she finished tying the bandage to allow him to hopefully relax. “We can and we are both going to get some klah and food before an early night.” S’ven commented as he looked at the brown rider pointedly trying to make him understand they needed to get out of there before an argument erupted.
“Do not leave on my account. I can leave you riders to discuss it better.” Nerlyn said sweetly as she rose.
“Ner.. I..” The blue rider started but Nerlyn shook her head.
“Just make sure he gets back to bed when you are finished.” She said in the no-nonsense tone that had scared him as a weyrling.
K'ron finally managed to relax a bit when Nerlyn tied off the sling. It at least helped support his arm and take some of the pressure off the wound. “Thank you,” he told Nerlyn. He raised a brow. this felt odd having her telling him what to do.
“Anything else happening with the wing?” He asked.
Nerlyn slipped out the door with S’ven raising an eyebrow but did not comment as G’len carried the conversation forward. “Nothing really. It has been less than a Sevenday since you went north.” The brown commented with a slightly amused tone.
K'ron managed a tired smile. “True,” he agreed. “Sorry wingleader brain,” he whispered. K'ron was used to checking on his wing on a daily basis. It felt weird not to be checking on them.
“I know and I know we have not known each other long enough but I have this in hand wi thy S’ven’s help. And if I do get stuck or in trouble I have the Weyrleader to go to.” G’len assured glancing to S’ven to offer a smile. The blue rider was worth his weight in gems for knowing who was who and what approach to take with people. He had learned so much from him.
K'ron nodded a bit. The brown rider did seem capable. it was just hard to sit back like this. He would have been that way even if he had known his wing second for Turns. “You are right. It does seem like you both have it well under control.”
“We do,” G’len assured quietly. He looked around thinking of things to say so decided on a safe subject. “Um… that woman… she is your mate?” He wondered quietly.
The bronze rider should have known not to worry but that wasn't in his nature. he was surprised by G’len's question. “Nerlyn. Yes, she is my mate,” he answered.
“And she is a dolphineer?” He asked.
“Things are different here,” S’ven said smiling. He had spent enough time with the Brown Rider to know that the man was confused by the South as much as he was happy to be there.
K'ron chuckled a bit. “She is and S'ven is right. Things are different here.” He hadn't really realized how different until he had gone to High Reaches with Lana. Although Nerlyn being a dolphineer had allowed him the privilege of seeing his son grow up.
“They really are. Never met a Dolphineer before.” He admitted blushing a little as he rubbed a hand across his stubble. He was embarrassed to admit it had startled him, especially the way she had spoken to them. “To be fair I have not met a female blue rider until Malearee so this is certainly a learning curve.”
“There are definitely a lot of firsts here,” K'ron agreed. “You'll get used to Nerlyn after a while too.” He knew his mate could be a handful.”
“She still scares me sometimes but she is brilliant. She is one of us.” S’ven laughed a little as he sat down and leaned back looking at K’ron thinking it might sound better coming from someone else.
“One of us?” G’len asked not sure he was understanding.
K'ron laughed. “I think she knows it too,” he grinned. Nerlyn had tried that on him before but he had known her too long to let her scare him. The bronze rider nodded. “She used to be a green rider until a terrible training accident claimed her beautiful green,” he answered slowly.
“Oh… I… Im not used to that either.” The brown rider looked flustered. He really was not used to Dragonless. Maybe it was what had set his senses off and left him uneasy.
“We do not judge or expect you to get used to everything so quickly.” S’ven assured smiling relieved that the man was starting to understand things.
“It all takes time,” K'ron agreed. “Nerlyn isn't your normal person. It took a lot but she's always been a fighter.” It wasn't normal to see dragonless at all. “But don't worry. Like S'ven said, no judgment here,” he said, gently massaging his arm.
The brown rider nodded, he was not sure on the no judgement as he was his own worst critic but it was nice to see the support. It was always what he hoped for. “I am starting to see it’s not just the weather that is different here.” The man decided. G’len sighed a little as his brown declared something in his head.
“Um excuse me… Bieth has decided to chase as he does seem to like green dragons around here.” The brown said blushing a little more as he excused himself leaving S’ven in stitches.
“That’s the third flight in a sevenday.” He said in a whisper to K’ron. “He ended up winning Rya’s flight yesterday. His brown is living his best life at the moment.”
The bronze rider smiled. He was glad to see that G'len seemed to be settling in and so far had proved to be an invaluable wing second with S'ven’s help while he himself was down. He raised a brow before laughing, trying to ignore the pain in his shoulder. “not sure if I should feel bad for him or not,” he grinned.
“Me either. Let’s hope he doesn’t meet I'lean anytime soon. I am sure that would put him off the greens for life.” S’ven snorted. “So where am I taking you? Infirmary or somewhere else?” He asked thinking to Nerlyn’s instruction seeing they were all done there.
K'ron cringed. “Yeah, that wouldn't be good.” Although he knew S'ven was doing well with Kelsa. He wrinkled his nose. “Guess the infirmary. They haven't actually said I leave yet.”
“Then let's go.” S’ven said offering his hand to help the older man to his feet and get him back to the infirmary before anyone really realised. “Let's hope you are back to your own bed soon. I know Nerlyn and Raen must be missing the Weyr.”
He carefully got back to his feet with S'ven's help. K'ron looked at his wing third in surprise. “They haven't come back yet?” He asked. He hadn't realized that Nerlyn hadn't come back. He had just figured Raen had been in the crèche.
“Nope. Nerlyn has been coming back and forth to visit.” S’ven said quietly as he looped his arm around his good side to help him.
That would explain why he hadn't seen his son. He was definitely going to have to speak with Nikolai and Thalia and see when he could go back to his weyr. “Shards. I didn't realize.”
“I am telling you because she’s been refusing my offer of a lift as well as anyone else’s so I’m doing it for her good.” S’ven said with a smirk as he opened the door and looked down at the stairs. “So how would you like to do this? Piggy back maybe?” The man offered still smirking as he winked at the man to show he was teasing.
K'ron shook his head. She would be stubborn like that. “We'll have a talk,” he promised. It was a good hike to take all the time. he rolled his eyes before laughing a bit. “Now that would be a sight,” he chuckled. “Railing will work just fine.”
“Good because I think A’ren was going to put her over his shoulder and force her last night. I think the fact she is pregnant stopped her.” S’ven laughed moving in front of him at the eye rolling. He was a lot more solid and the man would not fall if he lost his footing. But S’ven had to admit it was nice to have the back and forth with the man now.
The bronze rider cringed. “That would have been a sight.” He was definitely going to have to talk with Nerlyn. He didn't need her getting hurt too. K'ron chuckled as S'ven stepped in front of him. He knew the man was sturdy enough if he did fall but he hoped not to.
“Let’s go then.” S’ven said simply as he led the way back to where the bronze rider was going to get yelled at for sure. He would step away before that happened as he did not want the blame.
