Tanly sighed softly as she gripped the basket in her hands. A peace offering could never hurt, especially when she had messed up so badly. She quietly walked toward S’lei's weyr, knowing her brother was out but Halia should be around. She climbed the stairs and soon found herself knocking on the door.
Halai looked up from the mess she was correcting on the floor trying to organise her harper lessons for the next month. She had no idea who was at the door as riders just used the Weyr entrance. “Come in.” She called to whoever it was.
The green rider hesitated briefly when she heard Halia's voice, but she needed to make this right. It hadn't been her talking. She gently pushed the door open. “Hi,” she said softly.
Halia turned at the voice and slowly stood up. She had not expected Tanly to be there at all and Moni hissed from her shoulder. He had seen how the green rider had spoken to his last time they were together. “Don’t Moni. Hello.” Halia greeted as she stepped over the papers.
Tanly cringed. The little firelizard had every reason to act that way. Tanly held up the basket of treats. “Peace offering?” She asked, feeling very out of place.
“You did not need to. I understand your feelings.” The harper said softly as the fire lizard swooped over to the alcove that she had had claimed as his own. She completely understood why Tanly reacted the way she had even if she had been shocked over it.
The green rider shook her head. “I still shouldn't have ever acted that way. It wasn't right and I am sorry,” she said, moving to set the basket on the table.
Halia looked confused at the basket befor she smiled a little. “No but emotions are high at the moment. So what did you get in the basket?” She wondered not sure what to say really.
“Lots of sweet treats,” Tanly finally smiled. “I know even when I was sick with the twins sweets always tasted good.” She still felt bad she had acted so badly. “Yeah they are but after all these Turns I shouldn't have let my dragon's emotions affect me.”
“I am guessing your flight has happened?” Halia wondered quietly. She had no idea how it all worked but she knew that green riders got a little proddy when it was time for their green to rise. She had no idea if sweet things helped or not.
“She did,” Tanly nodded. “I am sorry I was so awful to you. I'han was the one that pointed out about Cad rising.” She opened the basket and pulled out a pasty. “Always worth a try,” she smiled.
“Course he did. He is far too intuitive for his own good and he knows your body far more intimately than mine.” Halia pointed out looking at the pasty and took it. “You get to hold my hair back if I start throwing up again.” She murmured as she indicated the old beaten sofa and sat sat down
Tanly laughed a bit. “That is very true but we won't tell him that,” she smiled. The green rider nodded. “I think I can handle that,” she promised, sitting where Halia motioned. She hoped the pasty didn't make her sick though.
“Please don’t. I do not need that smugness.” The harper murmured, rolling her eyes a little as she took a bite. It was crunchy and sweet and exactly what she wanted to be fair. “Did I’han win?” Halia wondered trying to make conversation.
“I agree,” Tanly laughed. She laughed her mate and it was all in good humor that they were picking on him. The green rider nodded. “He did. I was worried for a bit. Cad sometimes likes to throw those moves in that Kanoth can't always follow because of his size.”
“Worried?” She wondered softly trying to work that emotion when it came to flights and the green rider. Mates meant nothing when it came to flights. S’lei had won a few over their turns together and it meant nothing more than him disappearing for a few candlemarks and coming back sometimes very happy to see her or exhausted and needing a bath and nap.
“I know that sounds odd coming from a rider,” Tanly smiled. She always knew she would go back to I'han just like he would always come back to her. She nibbled on her own pasty. “I blame it on my past. I'm just leery sometimes.”
“No judgement Tanly. We all have things that make us unique individuals.” The Harper reminded with a smile as she took another bite and nothing happened to turn her stomach.
She nodded a bit. “Thank you. and once again I am sorry for being such a wherryhead to you. I want you and S'lei happy. Nothing more nothing less,” she said.
“I love your brother. So I love you and that makes us family and families have disagreements but that doesn’t change that we are family.” The harper said quietly as she looked around. “I am reluctant to have this child because I know how it destroyed your brother before.”
Tanly smiled. She hadn’t thought of it that way but she did like that feeling and she loved both Halia and Jena. Tanly slowly nodded. “I can understand that. Luna nearly destroyed him,” she agreed. “But I can see the love in his eyes when he looks at you. He truly loves you.”
“I know but are we ready for that change? I do not know yet, but it's a bit different from the usual dragonrider relationship with their children.” Halia reminded gently as she heard a roar rumbling outside. “Which dragon rider fell asleep on watch?” She wondered amused.
That was true. “I do envy you that though. Having to give up the twins was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. But I understand completely. This has to be something that you and S'lei want, not anyone else.” She looked toward the roar. “Sounds like one of the weyrlings.”
“And I do not envy that Weyrling on watch having fallen asleep when it is barely the 19th candlemark. But I know you do. And if I had been here when you had to give them up I would have offered to foster them but we both know neither would get anything from me and their foster mother is great.” Halia said, leaning over to touch her hand. Halia could not change her view or worries but she was not doing anything lightly.
Tanly chuckled a bit. “Me as well. I think we all fell asleep once on watch,” she admitted. She nodded. “I know you would have and I also know the twins are doing great.” She hated to admit it sometimes but the twins were flourishing so that was all that mattered. She smiled at Halia. she knew the two would sort it out.
Halia smiled back. She could not change the way things had happened but it had led to a much better understanding of her and S’lei after 3 turns together. “It will be okay either way.” Halia said gently having no doubts about that.
The green rider nodded. “I agree. And you and S'lei are perfect together. I have no doubt you will be happy with whatever choice you guys make.”
Halia was relieved that the woman could finally see it which was nice and there was no longer the anger and frustration between them. “We will. He is stuck with a harper who loves the very bones of him.” She assured him hoping his feelings for her would never change.
Tanly laughed a bit. “He deserves to finally have someone love him. And you two are perfect together.” Tanly was glad they had sorted things and were still friends.
