G’van stood beside his mate as they waited for the children. Dystath yawned from his spot by Leith. “Ready for them?” he teased Calarya as he watched Milayna approach with a very hyper little girl. Her son was a lot more subdued though.
Calarya rolled her eyes as she watched the little girl skip around her mother. It reminded her of her own son at that age. “Are they ready for me? I am a lot more work.” Calarya asked, looking up at him and poking his chest as the group reached them.
G'van laughed. “Can't argue there,” he agreed as the family reached them.
“Sorry if we're a little late,” Milayna apologized as Falayna stared at the two dragons. Mian smiled a bit.
“Not at all.” Calvary assured as she narrowed her eyes still at G’van but grinned as she crouched to Falayna. “Hello little one. I’m Calarya we have never met properly.” She introduced herself properly.
G'van just grinned. He had no doubt she would make him pay later.
Falayna smiled widely. “Falayna,” she answered. “Do you have a dragon too?”
“I do. This is Leith.” She pointed to the Green Dragon who was pretending to be sound asleep but was very much awake waiting for the girl to approach to tease her. “I am wingsecond to the Weyrleader.” She revealed proudly. She was proud to be A’ren’s wingsecond, only other man than G’van she’d fly through thread for.
“She's pretty,” Falayna smiled, stepping closer to the pretty green.
Dystath watched from beside his mate while Mian looked over at Calarya. “You're a wing second?” He asked curiously. He understood the dragons and their colors better than his little sister. Milayna let her children ask questions.
“Yep. I'm very good at paperwork and being bossy.” She winked standing up from her crouched. “Your dad used to have a green rider wing third so green riders do get places but it’s through hard work.” Calarya explained quietly.
“Really?” Falayna asked, holding a tiny hand toward Leith.
“She is a bit bossy,” G'van teased his mate as Dystath crooned at them. “But she certainly works hard.” He knew Nerlyn had as well.
Mian looked back at Milayna. “Daddy's wing third was a green rider?” He asked.
Calarya narrowed her eyes more at G’van. He was really teasing her today. “Yeah. Nerlyn.” She knew the pair had met the woman many times thanks to the dolphins but she was refusing to let the impact the other woman had been ignored. She had been a badass as a rider. She smiled at Milayna knowing the question might have been directed at her but she might not have known.
“I know her,” Mian smiled. “I like her dolphin.”
Milayna mouthed a thank you. F'cone hadn't really talked much about his wing. Falayna was still watching Leith as G'van grinned innocently at his mate.
“She was really good friends with your dad when she was a rider. She was a great wingthird. And G’van here is a dragon healer.” She said tugging him forward seeing he was just grinning at her. He could explain all about his role.
Mian smiled a bit. “Dragon healer?”
Falayna turned from trying to coax Leith. “He has a dragon too?”
G'van glared at his mate before smiling at the children. “A dragon healer is like a normal healer. I just get to work with the dragons instead of the riders.”
“Yep. His dragon is Dystath. The brown one that is next to mine. And I’ll let you in on a secret. He heals people, too.” She assured as Leith opened her eyes and stretched out her head to the little girl.
Falayna clapped her hands excitedly when Leith finally paid attention to her. Dystath yawned a bit as he laid down by his green mate, wrapping his tail around himself.
“Sometimes,” G'van agreed. He trusted his dragon healing skills a bit more but he could step in if needed.
“That is a lot,” Mian commented.
Leith snorted before laying her head close to Falayna letting her closer as Dystath grew bored. “Dragons are big. G’van has a lot more patience than I do, which is why I am much better as yelling orders at riders.” Calarya said, smiling. She was proud of the man and showed it by winking in his direction.
“Pretty dragon,” Falayna said, touching Leith's nose.
G'van smiled at his mate. “That takes a skill too. I'm not good at bossing people around,” he teased. Milayna smiled as she listened to the two riders. Mian actually seemed very interested while Falayna just wanted to play with Leith.
}: the child is right, I am pretty.:{ Leith commented looking to the group.
“Leith says you are right, she is pretty.” Calarya laughed. “She also has an ego,” Calarya added in a whisper for the grown-ups. “You look like you have a few questions, Mian?” Calarya sai,d crouching down to look at the boy properly. She was small, but children deserved to be listened to at their level.
Falayna giggled as she pet Leith like she did Caladoth.
Milayna hid a giggle. Mian nodded. “I didn't know there was so much,” he said softly. “And you can do other crafts too?”
“We became riders before pass so we had other dreams.” Calarya said gently. She was not going to tell him that she had never had any dream other than being a rider. “but you also need a craft just in case you do not impress. Got to have a back up plan.”
Mian considered Calarya's words. “So I could learn about dolphins or healing?” Maybe healing. He thought that might be the best route.
Milayna blinked in surprise. She hadn’t realized her son had been thinking about so much. He was always so quiet about it.
“Completely. Nerlyn would talk to you about being a dolphineer and I bet your aunt would talk about healing.” Calarya advised gently smiling at the boy before glancing to his mother who looked shocked. “Just because you are in the Weyr does not mean you have to be a rider.”
The boy nodded a bit. He might just have to do that. “I never realized I could do all that,” he said quietly. There was so much he had to learn.
Milayna put a smile on her face and squeezed Mian's shoulder. “We can certainly ask questions, kiddo.”
“Always ask questions Mian. People want to answer them.” Calarya assured before looking over at the little girl laughing as Leith snorted to make her laugh. “Oh I wish I had that power over that great green like your sister does.” Calarya laughed.
Mian nodded. He smiled as he watched his little sister. “She likes dragons.”
Dystath craned his neck around to study the tiny girl. It had been a while since Calvan had been that small.
“But what about you? What do you like Mian?” Calarya asked quietly, smiling at him. Liking dragons was okay but it was not the be end of all things and that was okay even in the Weyr. Everyone had to have a choice.
Mian pressed his lips together. No one had really ever asked him that before. “I like the dolphins,” he said quietly, glancing at his mother. He stepped closer to Calarya. “I want to be able to help mama,” he whispered to Calarya. He had seen the scars she carried and had heard stories when they thought he was sleeping .
“How so?” The woman whispered back smiling at the boy and the fact he was such a sweet and gentle soul despite who his father was.
The boy considered how to answer. How much did he give away that he knew? “She has been hurt,” he whispered. “And I want to be able to make sure I can help her.”
Milayna had no idea what her son was telling Calarya. He was such a quiet, caring boy. Unlike his sister who was full of energy and could make anyone smile.
“But she hasn’t been hurt for a long time.” Calarya reminded glancing at Milayna , still smiling at the sweet boy. He was wanting to help his mother but she had not been hurt in many turns. “You don’t have to settle for that because of the past.” She pointed out.
Mian nodded. It was true but it didn't make him change his mind. “Still could,” he answered quietly. He didn't know why but he feared something was going to happen. “I can help others too,” he pointed out.
“Of course but do not let your fear for your mum shape your future. She would not want that.” The green rider assured. He was a good kid. “Why don’t you speak to your aunt?” She suggested.
That made sense. “Aunt Terli?” He asked. He hadn't thought to talk to Terliyn. Maybe he would. “Thank you,” he smiled at the green rider.
“She is a healer. Talk to your mum too okay. She is looking worried.” She advised standing up, squeezing the boy's shoulder gently. He was a good kid and will go far with the attitude that he had.
Mian nodded. He would talk to his parents. Falayna was still happily petting Leith and even Dystath as the brown had weaseled closer. Milayna smiled a bit at her children but she was a bit worried about Mian.
Calarya glanced at Milayna and nodded that things were okay but they all needed to talk to Mian. It would all work out with a bit of communication especially as the boy had a good head on his shoulders. F’cone and Milayna had raised him well.
Milayna smiled a bit. At least it seemed like Mian was alright. She would talk to F'cone later so they could speak to Mian.
“Think you've adopted a little on now,” G'van teased his mate as he watched Falayna with the two dragons.
“If she is wanting adopting she can go to the Queen riders.” The woman said with a smirk as Leith turned her head and snorted in Calarya’s direction at that suggestion. “but we had better get going for dinner and sweeps.” She admitted wishing she could hang out more but they had duties to attend to.
G'van shook his head with a chuckle. “You're right.”
Milayna smiled at the two riders. “Thank you both for letting the kids meet the dragons and ask questions.”
“Anytime.” Calarya assured looping her arm through the brown riders. It had been no problem and she had to admit she had enjoyed talking to the boy. “He is a good kid.” She approved watching Mian. “He has lots to think about though. Remember what I said.”
Mian bobbed his head. “I will,” he promised.
Milayna still had no idea what her son had told Calarya. She did have to smile though. “He is.”
“See you around.” Calarya said as Leith crooned to the little girl before carefully pushing off to head to her weyr ledge to sleep in the sun before she was off on a sweep.
