Theeressa smiled as she saw Riklan coming out of Healer Hall. She had decided to meet him and whisk him away for breakfast sandwiches seeing both children were awake before dawn. “Daddy!” Laressa yelled as two firelizards chirped along with her as she ran towards the man.

Riklan stretched a bit before slipping his satchel over his head. Early shifts were hard but it also let him have time with his family. A smile lit up his face when he heard his daughter's voice. “Hey baby girl,” he smiled, scooping her up.

Theeressa followed at a slower pace as it was so early barely anyone was around to allow her to see her daughter easily. “We got up so early that mama brought us to meet you.” Laressa declared proudly.

Riklan kissed the girl's forehead. “That was really early,” he agreed, smiling when he saw Theeressa approaching with their youngest in her arms. “Good morning.”

“Hello healer.” She greeted leaning up to kiss him properly. “Not covered in numbweed or who knows what else.” She said looking impressed with him as Kassa looked at her father before she snuggled back down.

“Not this time around,” he chuckled. “Pretty easy shift.” He leaned into her kiss. “How are my girls this morning?”

“Everyone was awake at dawn so they’ve had breakfast but I thought you might like a breakfast roll whilst we have a second breakfast of jam rolls.” She explained holding up the wrapped sandwiches.

Riklan smiled broadly. “That sounds like the perfect way to spend the morning. What do you think Lars?” He asked, tickling her.

The girl squealed loudly trying to escape but it was impossible with her dad holding her. “Stop it daddy. I want breakfast.” She laughed looking to her mother to help but the woman just smiled and rocked Kassa a little to settle her.

Riklan chuckled. “What if I don't want to?” He teased her, letting up before it was too much. “I want breakfast too,” he agreed.

The girl pouted before she cuddled him again. She loved her dad even as her firelizards looked unsure at the tickling.

Riklan raised a brow at the firelizards. “Oh come on you two. You know I would never hurt her,” he said, cuddling his daughter close.

The firelizards swooped down and sat on his shoulder with his own firelizards just to make sure. Theeressa rolled her eyes, the two were protective which sometimes despite knowing Dragon Hold was gone was what allowed her to sleep at ninth. “They are sleepy and protective. You are going to be more firelizard than man soon.” She chuckled.

He shook his head a bit with a chuckle. “Good thing I have broad shoulders, huh Lars?” He teased his daughter. “And I am glad they are protective.” He felt a bit better leaving his family when he knew the firelizards were there.

“Me too.” The red haired woman answered before shaking her head, getting herself out of her thoughts. “I do not know why you are asking her when I appreciate those shoulders more.” Theeressa flirted before she turned away and led to where the market square would be and they could sit to have their sandwiches before Laressa went to the Harpers.

A wide smile touched his lips. “I should have asked you,” he smiled, following behind his wife. “And I apologize for that.”

Theeressa laughed as she led the way and plopped herself down on the stone bench shifting Kassa in the sling properly so she snuggled into her. She held out the sandwiches to the pair.

Riklan sat down next to them, shifting Laressa in his arms to sit down better. “Thank you. This smells wonderful. And it was a wonderful surprise to see you guys.”

“It seemed logical to join you when we were all awake and ready to face the day. It does not happen often that we get to join you like this.” Theeressa smiled. “Plus with us here. You can get to bed pretty early.” She teased him as Laressa unwrapped her sandwich and delved in.

“I loved it. I do feel bad you guys were all up so early but I loved seeing you.” He took a bite of his own sandwich. Riklan chuckled a bit. “That's true,” he grinned.

“Might find I come back and join you,” Theeressa commented. It was no one’s fault anyone had been up bc early, the girls had just stirred and decided to stay awake. It was been nice if she was honest to be out in the sunshine already.

“I do not need a nap,” Laressa added her thoughts.

“I would love the company,” he assured her. He laughed and looked down at his oldest. “Oh you don't?” He smiled. “Well daddy is gonna need one.”

“That’s because you have worked nights daddy.” Laressa rolled her eyes at the man. She was too busy with her sandwich to notice her parents flirting or the fact her mother was just staring around and people watching.

Riklan chuckled. “You are right, Lars. I did work all night.” Hence why he would be going to sleep soon. He glanced over at his wife, giving her a gentle smile.

“I miss you in the mornings. It’s alway nicer with you there to snuggle daddy.” The girl said happily making Theeressa smile at the man.

“Mummy likes him there too. Beds always warmer.” And he did not wiggle as much as Laressa.

Riklan hugged his daughter close. “And daddy would much rather be there too,” he agreed, smiling at Theeressa. “A couple more days and then I'll work during the day.”

“You are doing so well in helping mummy Laressa. I’m so proud of how grown up you are being right now with helping with Kassa especially when I knocked my hand last night.” Theeressa said, putting a strand of hair behind her daughter's ear.

Laressa giggled. “Mummy said a bad word.” She told her daddy.

Riklan pressed his lips together, trying not to laugh. “Theer,” he teased. “What are you teaching our girls?” Not that he hadn't done that same thing before.

“Bad words supposedly.” Theeressa said over her sandwich with a shrug. “Hard to not say something when I nearly crushed my hand with one of our pots.” She pointed out grinning at the way the man was trying to not laugh.

“Ouch. Okay yes I can understand the bad word then,” he said, barely containing his laughter. “Are you okay though?”

“Course.” She up her bruises fingers and wiggled them so he could confirm that was was indeed absolutely okay.

He frowned just slightly. “Why didn't you let me know sooner?” He asked gently. “I might have at least been able to help with the pain.”

“It’s barely hurting. It’s just bruised. We had numbweed in the house. I was fully capable of doing things. Everyone has been dressed and fed.” Theeressa leaned over and kissed his cheek softly.

Riklan sighed softly. “You’re right. I'm sorry. I'm just worried about my family.” He knew Theeressa knew how to take care of herself.

Theeressa just shook her head. He worried cause he could not be there which was understandable but she was more than capable of putting numbweed on. “You have taught us well to be healers.” She smiled as she caressed his cheek before Kassa stirred.

He managed a smile as he closed his eyes briefly. He had tried to teach them basic healing just in case and he did know that Theeressa would have sent the firelizards if she had really needed him. “I've tried.”

“Practically do not need you unless it’s for something serious now.” She teased him as Laressa looked concerned. “I am teasing my little one. I know you need your daddy for all your healing needs.”

“Oh is that so?” He asked, catching Laressa's concern. He hugged his daughter close. “I'm not going anywhere baby girl. I’ll still take care of you.”

“Mummy is just teasing him I promise.” Theeressa said looking at Riklan feeling a little guilty as Kassa decided to wake up properly.

“It's okay, Lars. Mummy didn't mean anything by it,” he promised. “Mummy and I just like to tease each other. No reason to worry.”

“Kassa does not like it either it seems.” Theeressa sighed standing up. She slowly started to bounce back and forth to keep Kassa happy.

Riklan shook his head. “Our girls worry too much,” he said, hugging Laressa. “Mommy and daddy love each other.”

“I do very much love your daddy. He is the only person for me.” Theeressa assured leaning over to stroke Laressa’s cheek. “But I do like teasing him.” She grinned at the girl who burst into laughter her worries gone.

Riklan rolled his eyes with a laugh. “Well it sounds like all is well again, “ he grinned.

The woman just grinned as she rocked the baby and waited for everyone to finish up their breakfast. It had been a lovely morning with them all which was a welcome change to surprise the man.
