Location: River Cove Weyr
Timeline: MD 2 D12
As Weyrlingmaster 2nd it normally fell to him to tell weyrlings a lot of bad news but telling them that they could not go to the gather and watch their faces crumble had been hard seeing it had been so long since there had been anything like that for them to enjoy. It was hard but he knew it the grand scheme of things it paled but it did not mean he liked being the bearer of bad news for them all. He sighed as Kirala nodded to him and slipped past him in the corridor not saying anything.
Any other time he would have enquired what was going on with her but he really was just not in the mood for going down that route as it normally ended in them either having a passionate moment or screaming swear words at each other and C’dan having to break them up with a reminder that he could happily transfer one or both of them for an easy life. He just wanted to see his mate for the walk that he had been promising for a while along the beach.
Analees had just picked Rosan up from the creche which was very new to her but she couldn't actually take her son when she was with the harper. And she was really enjoying those lessons. it gave her a purpose now.
Rosan bounced by his mom’s side as they walked to the weyr. Analees couldn't believe he had learned to walk already. The boy suddenly stopped though. “Dud!” He cried.
V’ros blinked as he saw his son walking in front of him and quickly picked up the pace when he heard the cry. He was growing up so quickly and the fact that he got to enjoy being in his life daily was something that he had not realised he had wanted until Analees had come into his life. “And hello to you too,” V’ros said scooping the boy up to kiss him before he smiled at Analees. “Hello, sweetheart.” He had left before she had risen due to wanting to be there when the weyrlings were sleepy to share the news ans then move on with the day.
Rosan giggled and hugged his father tightly. The little boy would never have to worry about losing his parents like Mian had for a bit. “Dud!” He sing songed.
Analees laughed. “Hello handsome,” she smiled back. She had been surprised to wake up alone but she also knew that V'ros had his responsibilities to the weyrlings and Weyr too. “Ro and I were just headed back from the creche.”
“No creche,” the little boy grumbled, trying to get the words out.
He smiled ducking his head to kiss her hard, showing her hopefully just how much he loved her even as the boy hugged him tightly. “Fancy that beach walk I keep promising. I need to just get some fresh air.” He wondered to Analees before looking at the boy. “No creche?” He wondered not sure if the boy was happy or sad to be finished for the day.
Analees closed her eyes briefly, leaning into his kiss. Shards she hadn’t expected that one at all. “I like those kinds of greetings,” she smiled. “And sure. That sounds nice.”
She looked over at Rosan as the boy grumbled. “No, go back. Mommy and daddy.”
V’ros raised an eyebrow at the boy's reluctance to go back to creche. “Not tonight but tomorrow you will be,” V’ros assured. The boy would get used to the change in routine. It was good for him and it was better for Analees to have something for herself and not have to be by herself completely. He took her hand with another more gentle squeeze and led them all out into the Weyrbowl.
Rosan growled but then snuggled against V'ros’ chest. Analees chuckled a bit. It was a change for all of them. She hadn’t left Rosan since he was born. She gave V'ros a smile. “He'll be okay.”
“I know. It’s part of Weyr life. He will eventually adapt and be a weyrbrat.” He shrugged. He knew eventually the boy would enjoy it, he knew there were several children in the Weyr around his age so that would eventually create friends and learn to enjoy.
Analees nodded. She didn't understand that part of Weyrlife but she trusted V'ros and what he had to say. “Well then we'll just give it time.”
“He won’t go full weyrbrat on you.” He teased squeezing her shoulder. It was hard to explain to people unless they were riders or had grown up as weyrfolk just how much it took sometimes being a rider and looking after a dragon that children could not be brought up by their parents unless one of them were weyrfolk.
The dark haired woman nodded. “Still learning,” she said, leaning against his shoulder. Of course there hadn't been any guarantee that she would have been able to raise Rosan in Dragon Hold either. Maybe some parts weren't so different. “He's just growing so fast,” she commented as Rosan watched where they were going.
“Course he is. Been 3 turns of having you both in my life. Doesn’t feel like that at all but it’s a long time.” It only felt like yesterday but time could not be stopped moving forward.
Analees shook her head. “I honestly can't believe it's been that long,” she admitted. Three Turns of actually being happy. That was not anything she had ever expected to have happen. Not if her younger turns were any indication.
“In a good way?” He checked with a smile for her as he put the boy down as they were safely out of the busy areas so he could walk without being trampled on.
“Very good,” she promised as Rosan trotted in front of them. He was happy to be back on his feet again. Analees laughed as she stayed next to V'ros.
“Good.” The man smiled. She would never know just how much she had saved him from himself and turning in to the deadglow he had been. Going North and then coming back and finding her had changed his life for the better. He was not perfect but he was trying. “Good for me too. Is there anything I can do to make that good an amazing?” V’ros asked genuinely wanting to make things better for her.
Analees laughed as she snuggled tight against his side. Rosan ignored his parents as he found a bug that had caught his attention. “Just be you,” she answered. “I love being with you and knowing that I can actually enjoy life.”
“I can try to be that.” He assured watching the little boy chase to the side the bug before turning to check that they were following. “We are still here,” V’ros said encouragedly knowing the little boy did not need to worry.
“Then that's all I need,” she assured him. Just having V'ros and Rosan in her life was good enough for her. Rosan grinned at his father before racing after the bug again.
V’ros was sure it was all he needed to as they walked a few more paces along the dunes that lead towards the beaches that surrounded River Cove. He had to admit it was a lot nicer then the other Weyrs that he had been to, which was why he always came home.
“It's so pretty here,” she commented, loving everything about River Cove. It truly felt like home.
“Bug!” Rosan exclaimed happily.
“I can see.” V’ros smiled and crouched to look at the big from Rosan’s height. “It is. It’s why whenever I have left I have come back. This is my home.” He admitted looking up at the woman smiling. She was beautiful but the sunlight highlighting her hair just made it so much more noticeable.
Rosan grinned at his father, loving that V'ros was down on his level. Analees smiled as she watched. It still amazed her that she had a lover, a child, and a father for said child. “Only ever knew Dragon Hold.”
“And you never need to know it ever again.” He assured quietly letting her contemplate for a moment before he stood up. “This is your home now for as long as you want it.” He knew that the Weyr was not for everyone but he hoped at the very least she was happy there enough to give things a go.
Analees nodded. She knew it was true. And the riders had made sure that awful Hold was gone. “Can't imagine life anywhere else. Or with anyone but you.”
He wanted no one else in the way that he wanted her and his son in his life. “Good.” The man stepped over and pulled her against him as the fire lizards all around them started their nightly dance across the sky. “Looks like dusk is approaching,” he murmured.
