Lana glanced at A’ren and then at V’ros who was sitting in the council chamber looking a bit confused and unsure why he had been called there. He was a little concerned he was in trouble but he could not figure out why the Weyrleaders had told him they had to wait for someone else. What could he possible have done that had required him to be in front of the Weyrleaders?
“Relax V’ros.” Lana instructed gently as she sat down awkwardly.
“I would if I knew why I was here, Weyrwoman. But are you okay? You still look in rough shape.” V’ros said, caringly glancing to A’ren to gauge his emotions on the Weyrwomans' injury.
A'ren bit back a smile as he nodded to Lana. Poor V'ros. They really needed to let the poor guy in on why he was called. A'ren cringed slightly. Lana was getting better but she still didn't look great and actually looked a bit sore. “We'll explain everything shortly,” he promised V'ros.
V’ros frowned a little when he saw the cringe from the Weyrleader. He did not miss the look at all. “I am okay. It could have been worse.”
“Is that why I am here”? V’ros wondered.
“No, we are just waiting for K’ron.” Lana stated deciding to settle him down a little. V’ros turned his gaze back to A’ren in a by the first egg what is going on. There was a knock at the door. “Come in K’ron.” Lana called out moving to pour 3 mugs of wine for the men.
K'ron had been very confused when he had gotten the summons to come to the council chamber. The Weyrleaders hadn't really said anything else. He was pretty sure he hadn't done anything. At least not this time. “Sorry I'm late,” he said, pushing the door open.
A'ren felt bad for the two bronze riders. They hadn't really told them anything.
Lana handed out to the 3 men the wine before she sat down with her klah. It was cold but she did not want to have anything wine related. “So we need to have a discussion about someone you both have in common. K’ron has been aware of the first part of the conversation but we need to find out if you were aware of what Nerlyn was up to as a rider.” As soon as Lana started V’ros knew he was going to hate this whole conversation but bringing up the only connection between the 2 bronze riders confirmed it.
“Nerlyn? This is about her?” V’ros turned to look at K’ron. “What is going on? We have all moved on?”
A'ren sipped on his wine. he could see the two men were completely confused and he couldn't blame them. Lana hadn't really said much.
K’ron groaned. He didn't want to think about that again. “it's not about that,” he told V’ros. “That is in the past.” he looked up at the Weyrleaders not sure how much they wanted to say.
“We discovered that Nerlyn discovered a trick that Dragon’s can do and had been using it for searching purposes.” Lana said looking at V’ros pointedly as the bronze rider's face crumpled and he scrubbed at it.
“I knew this would come back to haunt us all one day.” He muttered picking up the wine downing a good amount of it. “Yes I knew she went between time.” He sighed knowing it made him complacent with whatever was going on that had brought it up.
A'ren raised a brow. “You knew?” he asked curiously. Well that was interesting. It seemed more people knew than they had realized.
K'ron stared in shock at his fellow bronze rider. “You knew? And you didn't stop her?” Shard it! Did no one think it was a bad idea? That Nerlyn could have been hurt? He shook his head, clenching his fists to calm himself down.
V’ros pursed his lips together. He was not going to take the blame alone if K’ron was dishing it out. Everything concerning Nerlyn was passionate and fiery until it burned out. V’ros knew it had been happening but had no idea how to replicate it and stopping her had not seemed possible.
“Have you ever been able to stop her from doing something that she is very determined to do?” V’ros demanded softly.
K'ron growled. He hated this sharding timing thing. So many people knew yet did nothing.
“Hey!” A'ren interrupted before the two could start arguing. “There were mistakes made in the past. Mistakes that can't be fixed but we can learn from them.”
“No Sir. I think some home truths need to be declared. Yes I knew about her going between times. Yes I could have tried harder to stop her but I did try even when we split up and she chose you K’ron. I even gave her extra duties to make her so sharding tired she couldn’t go between.”
“V’ros… stop.” Lana soothed slightly.
“No Weyrwoman. K’ron has every right to be angry at me. I made his life difficult but when I realised that she was getting better and stopped timing it I backed off and stopped interfering in Nerlyn’s life.” V’ros downed the rest of the wine and looked at K’ron.
A'ren frowned. Well this wasn't how they had wanted things to go. But they were learning a bit more.
K'ron twisted the glass around in his hands. He hated everything about this timing mess. And he still couldn't believe Nerlyn had done it in the first place. He ran a frustrated hand through his dark hair. “Is there a reason we're bringing this up again?” He asked, trying to keep calm.
“Because we still need to understand it all before we go to the ruins… and I am going North to try and get some answers.” Lana glanced at A’ren. He was not happy about her wanting to go there but he was willing to go.
“Ruins? What is going on?” V’ros wondered worried as he was confused as to what was going on to bring it all up.
K'ron groaned a bit. “Those ruins are a real problem,” he grumbled. What was so special about them? Apparently only time would tell.
A'ren still didn't like the going north, but he knew Lana was right. “Which leads to why you both are here,” he commented, looking at the bronze riders. “You will be accompanying Lana to the Northern Weyrs.”
Lana looked at K’ron and touched his arm gently trying to soothe him. She knew he hated everything about this issue but they needed answers.
“Both of us?” V’ros wondered looking at K’ron raising an eyebrow.
K'ron blew out a soft breath but let his shoulders relax. If they were ever going to back to a normal life then they needed to get these ruins sorted.
A'ren nodded. “Yes both of you,” he answered. “Lana can use the extra help looking.”
Lana looked at A’ren and chuckled a little. “He will not let me go without you both to High Reaches. They could use some support with their senior pair.”
“You mean the fact they are weyrlings which is why is why I am coming along and K’ron is there purely to keep S'cir away from Lana?” V’ros commented softly.
“Now you get it,” A'ren answered, not at all upset by it. It was just the truth. And maybe they could help the Weyrleaders.
K'ron raised a brow. “Seriously?” He asked. He was pretty sure Lana could take care of herself but who was he to argue?
Lana said nothing as she nodded at K’ron’s exclamation. V’ros’ face broke into a little bit of a grin as he realised why the Weyrleader wanted others to go with the Weyrwoman. It made sense when all High Reaches had at the moment was a weyrling golden pair and a golden egg on the sands. They had no experienced Weyrwoman.
“And I expect you both to keep an eye on her and give her a hand if she needs it,” A'ren commented. He knew he couldn't stop her but he could make sure she was safe.
K'ron shook his head a bit. “Alright then. I guess we are taking a trip north.”
Lana stared at A’ren open mouthed for a moment as she listened to him before she smiled. He really was being open and honest with the pair. “I don’t like the snow and ice but I need to search their records for information on low search numbers and anything about the ruins.”
A'ren wasn't going to keep anything from his riders. Especially when it concerned his mate and Weyrwoman.
K'ron shivered a bit. “Guess we better dress warm,” he answered. “and have lots of klah handy.”
“I am sure that S'cir can make sure we have klah handy.” Lana said gently, already thinking her and her flight gear will be getting quite close and personal on the trip away from the Weyr. She glanced at A’ren and smiled, he had been reluctant but he was trying his best to show that he trusted her.
“That will be much appreciated,” K'ron said, thinking how he was going to explain this trip to Nerlyn.
A'ren smiled at Lana. He still didn't like this idea but he knew she would do it no matter what but at least this way she would have someone with her.
V’ros just looked at the dregs of his mug and drank the rest of the wine. He was not at all sure how wise this was but he knew that they needed to find a way to get more candidates or work with other Weyr’s to share and he knew High Reaches needed support and he could support there. He had made sure Lana had survive weyrlinghood after all. “As you wish Weyrleader.”
“Thank you both,” A'ren said. He just hoped this all went smoothly and they returned with some information that could help.
K'ron nodded. This was not something he was looking forward to, but if the Weyrleaders trusted him enough for this assignment then he would do his best.
